PC Gamer - 84/100 https://www.pcgamer.com/hitman-2-review/

Essentially more of its predecessor but with a more consistent quality of levels. Which is fine: its predecessor was great.

GamesRadar+ - 3.5/5 https://www.gamesradar.com/hitman-2-review/

The quirks of what seem to be a last-minute rush out the door development strategy don't detract from the fact that each Hitman 2 level is wonderfully crafted and full of potential for inventiveness… and silliness.

IGN - 7.7 https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/11/08/hitman-2-review

Hitman 2 is like a hearty stew: not pretty, but so full of nutrition that you're bound to walk away full and happy.

USGamer 4.5/5 - http://www.usgamer.net/articles/hitman-2-review

Hitman 2 may just be more Hitman, but its somehow even better than before. The levels are all fantastic, the assassinations possible are all clever (and silly), the satirical writing is at its best. The assassination sandbox has never been more satisfying, and its slight technical hiccups and lackluster multiplayer do little to hold back the baldest assassin of them all. Even in your sixth or so time prancing through a map, you're bound to discover a new opportunity, or a new potentially-weaponized surprise, around the corner.

GamesRevolution 8/10 - https://www.gamerevolution.com/review/454559-hitman-2-review-clean-hit

GOOD:
Intricate assassinations that encourage replayability and reward strategic thinking.
Dense but open environments with many different routes.
The wealth of modes exercise the game's stunning freedom.
Tongue-in-cheek humor and silly, self-aware dialogue.

BAD:
Some punishing AI inconsistencies.
Static cutscenes with flat storytelling.
Multiplayer, although still in beta, is a bit undercooked.

Gamespot - 8/10 https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/hitman-2-review-hit-parade/1900-6417031/?ftag=GSS-05-10aaa0b

THE GOOD
Levels are impressively overwhelming and enjoyably complex
New mechanics like crowd blending and functional mirrors are minor but meaningful improvement
A tonal presentation that is both enjoyably overserious and charmingly goofy
Legacy stages are a fantastic bonus for owners of the previous game
THE BAD
Finding the odd mechanical limitation is a shame

If you liked the first Hitman there's nothing to wonder, Hitman 2 delivers the goods, just like the agent 47 always completes his mission.
The big drawback for them is the poor performance on their rig, on all maps, it seems.

As for myself, online progression only=i am out until something to circumvent it gets released, through an official patch or unofficial.

In short, this is Season 2, and it looks and feels like it is an evolution of what Season 1 was originally. Honestly, what I expected, IO was probably working on this before the Square Enix sellout.

Kinda what I was expecting. Not a massive leap over the previous game but still something with consistent quality throughout. I'll definitely be keeping my pre-order, especially since I'll be getting the game for £35 instead of £50+

This can get 70 MC and I'll still get the gold edition. Might not be able to play day 1 but I'll support Hitman. Hopefully IO can continue the series.

Yeah, it's Hitman: Season 2 but that's not a bad thing. It's a nicely refined iteration of the previous game with some nice tech and gameplay improvements. Love it.

Expected this to be more of an expansion pack than an actual sequel. Shame they couldn't try a little more (the new levels especially do look oddly familiar) but oh well. Still looking forward to playing it.

I never really got Hitman, but I never really tried either. This seems like a complete package right away, unlike the one a few years ago? Seems like this could be a great time to try and get into the series.

I am going to watch the DF video on my lunch break but Dark1x what is the framerate like on the Xbox One X? Considering getting it there instead of PC.

Nobody seems to be criticizing the game for a lack of content at launch, which is what my fear was upon seeing the achievements. It just doesn't add much to the previous formula.

Well, if you had the first one, you could import all of Hitman 1 into Hitman 2 for free, but because you don't own it, if you buy this you would only get the Hitman 2 stuff (which is a complete game by itself, dont get me wrong).

The reviews are pretty much what I expected. And honestly I don't mind that the cutscenes are static and rare in Hitman 2. The 2016 Hitman was all about having fun in huge sandbox levels and that's where the development money should go.

The Pc Gamer review is a bit embarrassing, if only because it doesn't mention multi player and in fact, they have put this on the fact sheet:

Or is it disabled until a day 0 patch?

From the Gamesradar review:

CONS

  • Still very much Hitman

Lol, oh come on. If there was literally anything else like Hitman on the market, or the games were being released annually, then that might be a problem. But there isn't, and they don't.

I wonder what would IO have to do to get 90+ MC.

Hitman will never get a 90+ Metacritic because it isn't cinematic or 'important' enough, and because it is so ambitious in trying to simulate a sandbox environment that when the AI occasionally, inevitably, trips up then reviews will ding it for that.

See all the reviews talking about the lacklustre story when it is quite literally the last thing I play the game for. I couldn't even tell you what happened in season 1, I simply don't care.

Lackluster story is a bad thing though. One of my few complaints about the first one. The story and story telling are terrible and lackluster.

Scoring a little lower than I anticipated but reading the reviews the main criticism seems to be that it's just more of Hitman 2016 with some small improvements, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Just because you don't care about the story, doesn't mean nobody else cares either.

If the story is poor then that's absolutely a con that'll have an effect on the score. That's completely fair, nothing wrong with it.

Pumped for this

I disagree with that. Some games don't need a story. Nobody would rate Mario poorly because of it's story. Or Gone Home for it's gameplay. Hitman is a set of sandboxes for you to play in. The story is literally just set dressing.
