The guy got beaten has been identified , a press from global time.
He got detained and beat up because he says he support the police.

That's not what he was claiming, he's stated two different statement and you're conflating multipe incident into one.
And lumping all protester into one group when there is no leadership, when it should be the individual, but you don't use the same metric for Police and government action.

1. At midnight One chinese mainlander man(Unamed) was found with I love police T-shirt, surrounded and held against his will by some protester with zip tie
But legaslator Kwok Ka-ki and Fernando Cheung was able to desculate the situation with protester and help him away

man_pPszr_1200x0.png

The second incident occured at around 6PM another man was surrouned and suspected to be a public safety officer from Schezhan(Similiar name, the last name only has one tiny difference)
He's claiming to be working in Schezhan, and was only there to take his friend to the airport.
But due to the similiar name as a Public Safety Officer, was surrouned and held captive by protester against his will and had physical harm done to him by some
8 PM, Paramedic was able to reach the man, and secure him, but was not able to leave him him, and 3 police unit was dispatched to escort the medical personal and man out at 10:45PM

A third man in a grey shirt was founded to be holding nun-chuck type weapon, and was surrounded by protester

Another group of Protester has engaged in hooligism style behavior, bypassing the south gate, and using the luggage cart(Like Taiwan, HK luggage cart is free, not like America) to form a blockade

Another group was blocking the 2nd Departure gate, preventing normal people, including woman and children from leaving.

This isn't good. It's going to escalate at this point. Police shouldn't pull out guns like that on crowds, but I'm not shocked he did once he got mobbed. There's a lot of people dancing on the line of "I'm not touching you" right now while seeing who blinks first.

I have a friend in Hong Kong so I'm following this a little bit, I don't know much about anything going on (like at all). Why are the police fighting their own people like this, do they get fucked over if they don't obey or something? If all cops would stop and protest with them, would China sent in the army?

Because in most places the police are an extension of law and order. They sign up for the job because they are loyal first and foremost to the state and not the people.

Look at the US, alot of police has a Us vs them mentality

HK police doesn't really have a good reputation to being with, and they don't like the fire department that have better reputation, and they think they don't do as much work.

Firefighter, when not fighting fire, can be seen playing volleyball at their station or place, in their word, it is a good exercise to keep them in shape, and most people don't mind since they are good looking guy playing volleyball.

It's police, that's what police do, there are very very very few examples in history of the police siding with the people against their government.

Very worrying scenes, and I can't see this being de-escalated in the coming days either.

Ended up watching a large amount of his reporting on Sky News earlier - absolutely crazy scenes. Especially after it all died down (very quickly) and he was just walking amongst regular travellers, queuing at check in. It was like it became a completely different scene within 20 minutes or so.

Was very worrying to see that man being surrounded/being beaten by some of the protestors, as that could have gone south very very quickly in such a situation. I guess in an environment like that, it can only take a rumour/actions of a minority to spark a flame.

Poorly educated (usually have the lowest grades from out of highschool) and unable to get any other good paying job (with government pension), so following strict orders from the chain of command is literally their economic life line. HK police were highly respected in the past, but most of the good ones have left, having realised what Beijing is doing, so it is either left with brain dead people who will do it for the money, or actual smart intelligent pro-Beijing Hong Kongers. Either way, the supposed infallibility of the CCP means being on Beijing's side is the safest career option for these knuckleheads.

Seriously impressed by the resolve, resilience and restraint of these protestors, especially in the face of a regime that has shown that it will use deadly force to get its way

Stay strong, Hong Kong

I'm terrified we're about to see Tiananmen 2.0, all while my country (Canada) sits fucking silent about it so as not to piss off Beijing

Trudeau spoke to reporters from Toronto, where he called on Chinese authorities to listen to the protesters.

What is Canada supposed to do? Relations with China are non existant atm

Official statement from the PMO's office condemning the actions of the HK police and China. It's literally the absolute least developed/democratic nations can do to make China feel isolated in taking these kinds of actions, aside from nothing which is what saying you're "extremely concerned" is.

I've seen this mentioned a few times as fake now. Are we sure? I only ask because they just showed this on ITV news in the uk and said the military is stationed at the border
Trump literally just said he received intelligence about the chinese military moving in near the border of Hong Kong.

They've been in Shenzhen for like a week or something.

Edit: But Chinese state media just released a hype video about it like yesterday

This incident has been building and could easily be the most important moment in history. Right now though, it just has that potential as things have not reached that point yet. Lets all hope it can be resolved peacefully and with the right outcome for HK citizens in relation to their demands.

To be honest I don't give a shit about the violence. There have been peaceful protests for months, but sadly, violence is often necessary in the face of oppression.

The core of this issue is the Hong Kong people's right to self-governance and freedom from an increasingly despotic regime . China's mouthpieces only want to talk about violence so they don't have to actually discuss the protestors' demands and the political problems.

they can protest all they want, do it in a peaceful way and should respect people with different voice.
Now, tell me how you feel about this

So how 'bout you fucking tell us how you really feel.

So, I just passed through HKG and the arrival halls were empty. It's 6 am local at the moment. It looks like the riot police moved in overnight? That really is a shame.

Wow f off with that propaganda, the HK people have the right to punch and kick the fascist police force just like we have the right to beat the shit out of alt-right Nazis. Besides one of the protesters was blinded when a cop shot her in the face.

I posted it yesterday, this is from chinese state media -

FWIW I think this is more to the Chinese domestic audience, to say - "look, we stand for security, law and order, unlike those Democracy crazy people, they only bring chaos" which Chinese media has been leaning super heavily into.
Whatever end up happening, this is just for show, and if god forbid they decides to roll in the tanks into Hong Kong, they can do it very quickly without having them joy-riding on Shenzhen's 4th ring road or whatever they fuck they do in that video. They have a lot of military bases in the region.

The Chinese government clear does. They have Canadian hostages and engage in trade fuckery with Canada so it's only fair.
You know, if this is a part of some bigger geopolitical goals you think Canada should have that's one thing, but maybe let's not pretend we're doing it for the people in Hong Kong.
Because I don't know, maybe I'm missing something, but those suggestions always seem to be about hurting China economically, and it's very hard for me to imagine that life would be better in Hong Kong if China was in a recession.

Yeah they had him blabbing away too, but didn't mention that at all, think they just had him screaming about bill and Epstein over hair force one.
They've been in Shenzhen for like a week or something.
Ah. Makes sense.

That makes way more sense. Hadn't thought about the the posturing for Chinese citizens angle tbh. Odd choice by the channel to show it tbh but the entire report was a little strange.

Man, I love Hong Kong, amazing city, I'm going to be there 3 times in the next 6 month, being what is happening really saddens me. You're seeing a city die in front of your eyes, surely it's just a matter of time before China goes in hard.

It's interesting, during the umbrella movement in 2014 Beijing tried very hard to block the coverage of it in the mainland. They banned instagram ffs.
This time around they treat it like it's fucking shark week. I will say that at least so far, it seem to be more of the tone of "look at all that chaos" and they always cut to stories about great bridges getting built around China or whatever. My concern is that they'll really start to rile the population against Hong Kongers, I mean, there a lot of bankers in hong kong, it's not impossible to find one that is extra drunk, extra stupid and extra white and get him to be racist about mainlanders. But I have not notice them leaning into this so far.

Edit: I'm sure there are people trying to stir shit up on social media, I ain't gonna search for that crap though.

If that's the case, I think this is to make a case to the mainland population for Hong Kong to be cut off. I.e. we'll let them govern themselves and run themselves to the ground. For building support for intervention they should play the radical / foreign intervention angle more. If the slant is against the city of HK and its entire population, I don't think subjugation is in the cards. They could let HK destroy itself. Defacto mob rule.

See:

It'll help strengthen the case in mainland that Western Liberal Democracy brings chaos and suffering.

Thoughts?
