Holy shit. After all that has been uncovered and revealed you are going to seriously equate the GOP working with the Russians as a conspiracy theory?

Yes. Stone and Manafort getting roped in is hardly equivalent to Mitch McConnell somehow being into Russian money laundering. There's like a million other more important things to investigate, like these hush money payments, Kushner's clearance, Trump's interference in the AT&T merger, child separations...

List goes on.

Politics are so frustrating.

We know it's illegal and impeachable. THEY know it's illegal and impeachable. They SAY it's not, even though we know and they know what they're saying isn't true. EVERYONE KNOWS it's not true. Even their SUPPORTERS know it's not true.

It's defending "your team" regardless of facts, logic, laws, or common sense.

The GOP gets a ton of money from the NRA. The NRA got a ton of money and influence from Russia. They are all complicit and trying to hide Trump's scheme because they are also part of another huge, related scheme

If (when) the Mueller report is delivered, and shows to be a massive list of crimes, collusion, corruption, money laundering, people smuggling and treason - who exactly will he be judged by? Will it just be another hearing where every Republican given 5 minutes goes "THIS IS HELL FOR OUR PRESIDENT!!!" and then he just walks back to the White House?

When ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked why Trump lied as part of the scandal, McCarthy said he'd have to ask the president, though the California Republican added, "You've seen politicians do this exact same thing in the past."

Yes, of course, it's a story has old as time. Politician has extra-marital affair with porn star; politician makes hush-money payment; politician breaks federal law while conspiring with his fixer; politician lies; politician gets caught. If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a politician do "this exact same thing," I'd have ... exactly one nickel.
Yup, this is what they do every single time. Try to excuse the inexcusable, try to normalize the abnormal, try to paint as innocuous what would be, should be absolutely damning.

It amazes me that every single pissant member of the Republican Party is putting their legacies on the line to go to bat for Trump. There's not a single member of that party with a spine or principles. Every last one of them just rolls over for him.

It's not for Trump. Their political survival relies on this narrative. It's one of the few things propping up their charade of legitimacy.

lmao @ law and order party. As if it wasn't obvious, the only "law" they care about is the fascist police state that was created to destroy minorities and dissidents.

I think what's worth pausing to acknowledge here is that they are finally admitting that Trump, at the very least, committed this crime. They are shifting the goal post from he didn't do anything illegal to it doesn't matter that he did something illegal, yes, but this is still an admission that they know he committed a crime.

I hope Democrats blast this. I hope reporters blast this. I hope every single person takes note of this.

Clinton was fucking impeached for perjury over a goddamn blowjob and this dude is giving out illegal hush-money payments and Republicans are just going "Oh well, these things happen". We're coming real close to becoming a banana republic.

One of the two major political parties in America is fucking compromised and not even trying to hide it anymore and we just kinda have to sit by and go about our daily lives hoping everything will work out
It doesn't help that the Dems constantly hurt themselves in a move to placate the Republicans.

Sure, the President is a criminal racist who has the speaking and leadership skills of an average second- or third-grader, but aren't we all incomprehensible bigots who commit financial crimes all the time, if you really think about it?

The country was fundamentally broken BEFORE Trump. Trump just helped to pull the shroud of secrecy off of the whole farce. Getting rid of Trump doesn't fix this. The only thing that fixes this is upheaval of the entire political system and gutting it of its financial benefactors.

Which I'm guessing will never happen because it would require those in power to bring in laws which work against their own financial interests.

Listening to the Slow Burn podcast about Watergate, and the Republicans acted the same way then. Ronald Reagan actually said the Watergate burglars were just misguided and really meant well in the end, so why bother pursuing the truth? Why would anyone think they've grown a spine as a party since then?

So basically what hes doing is defending corruptuon, conspiracy and abhorrent behavior? Am I hearing this right? An elected official is corroborating illegal behavior..because...why? What obligation does he owe Trump of all people?

This type of shit will ALWAYS be suspect from a corrupted party such as the GOP. Our allies need to call this shit what it is. The Nazis has infiltrated the GOP and America is compromised right now.

Same with Iran Contra too. And if the Dems weren't spineless and complicit in the Iraq War itself, we would've seen the same thing if people were even threatened with repercussions.

The GOP has always been a party of traitors and literal thieves, yet we are still forced to treat them as an equal legitimate party. It's one of the most disgusting things about this country and exhibit A for abused privilege to the detriment of the public.

Party of law and order!

I see now they are refusing to hand over the docs requested about Jared being given top secret clearance just because he's family, despite not being qualified. Was there a topic about that stuff? I couldn't find it.

He's not getting impeached, that's been a given

A Republican senate will never impeach him
You mean convict? Impeachment power lies with the House. The Senate then convicts.

Let's be honest though, the Republicans have an easy ride on the Senate electoral map for several years so that he wouldn't even be convicted if there were a second Trump term for Democrats to try.

The big talking point is going to be "It happened before he was president", as if that makes it fucking ok.

Which will not pass muster in the court of law or public opinion outside of the Fox News cult.
The cover-up (and thus conspiracy), i.e. when money was transferred back to Cohen for his illegal hush payments, was committed by Trump and his companions while he was in office.

I wonder what Era would think about a dem president that went hard left and gave no fucks...the opposite of Trump. Would people still be against or give a pass?

For me, reps have destroyed any "rules" and verbal "gentleman agreement" from the past. I honestly don't care if a left president goes all in while having majority. Also plastering every shit Trump and reps did while in power to remind everyone this wouldn't be some "new" thing to bitch about.

I volunteer.

First thing I would say is fuck decorum when it comes republicans. Treat them like the garbage that they are.

Next would be start searching for the white collar crimes politicians on both sides of the aisle have committed and start treating them like the criminals that they are.

I thought the issue was him not declaring the payment, not the fact it was hush money.
The hush money was illegal because since it was done to help the election, it's considered an in-kind contribution to the campaign, and both payouts exceed the donation limits. They were also not included in finance reports, which is another violation. Then there's the fact he lied while in Office to cover up these illegal activities he was well aware of and very involved in.

It feels like every sane person in the US is partaking in a large-scale demonstration of the 'bystander effect'.

A compromised major political party, in broad daylight.
