The paida maternity leave is thanks to Gabriella, one of the progressive representatives In Congress but as you know with politicians, others are trying to get the credit.

And the UHC is nominal only since it's coverage is very limited and it has seen little pushback from the private health and insurance industry in the country.

Right. As I said the Philippines while can be considered a conservative country theres still progressives in office.

I agree about UHC. It seems more like a stunt than anything else but even a limited amount of care is better than no care at all. Hopefully it can eventually be expanded.

  • Gay marriage legal since 2017. This was done under a conservative (current) government, although it's not a far-right one.
  • Far-right party has been polling at 8-10% the whole last year, but has gone up a little due to a rape crisis involving refugees last December. The last poll had them at 12%. It's still quite low considering the situation, but the parliamentary elections are in April so they can still take advantage of this recent rape crisis in debates. All major parties have said they refuse to work with them so they're going to need a far higher victory than the current polls are showing in order to be taken seriously.
  • Mandatory military service for men only. Feminists deserve some criticism here as they advocate for a voluntary service model which polls poorly. You would have a better chance at expanding the mandatory service for women as well, which would also achieve equality in this front.
  • Trans people must go through sterilization in order to change their legally recognized gender.
  • Universal healthcare system. The current conservative government wants to make some kind of Obamacare clone, but they don't have enough time to get it done now due to April elections and a strongly polling social-democratic party that opposes it (they're number 1).
  • Free college. You actually get aid for studying, although less than unemployment benefits.
  • Justice system is OK, sometimes sentences are way too low for things like sex crimes.
