Makes browsing certain threads on Era a pain in the ass. "Favourite action scene" "Favourite fight scene" "Favourite villain"....it's always filled with mostly anime/manga stuff.

No to little damage. I don't spend any significant money on it, and it's so widespread/mainstream nowadays it's not really such an awkward thing anymore.

Naruto and Bleach in my formative years left me with constant daydreams of powers and moments of heroics, feats of unbelievable strength and speed, etc.

That being said, I thankfully never was into or understood hentai, so I'm still well-adjusted ... in that regard.

No, but for real, I daydream about having power ... frequently. So perhaps I'm not that well-adjusted after all. I don't own any paraphernalia, don't wear any anime clothes or shoes, no posters, etc.

But the daydreams man. The daydreams.

On second though, I'll have to mirror NESpowerhouse. I've been indescribably harmed.
I'm with you. I also got my big One Piece manga collection sitting on a shelf beside me that I stare at on at least once on a daily basis. I also used to look down on hentai aficionados, but... we all fall into ruin sooner or later.

I was totally broken against the wheel of anime and still am suffering to this day. Example: Over two decades experience as staff at the local anime con. Things just go downhill from there, really.

i voted minimal damage, because i've stayed away from that shit so it hasn't been able to damage me. i remember my sister and her friend trying to get me into it when i was younger. sure dodged a bullet there, close call

Jimmy smoked anime once
now Jimmy is a degenerate, stealing to feed his habit, selling his body, and cosplaying as Sword Art Online characters

anime, not even once

Anime turned my longtime MMO group into a bunch of creeps with no grasp of reality. They glorify photoshopped Asian women as they trash other races, defend anime child porn and masturbate on figurines. They think they are well-adjusted individuals - they are anything but. I called them out on all their bullshit and left the group for good. Now I criticize modern anime whenever I can, hoping this poison can somehow be stopped. The fact it is an uphill battle frustrates me every day.

I think the moment I backed a lewd Nier Automata animator on Patreon was the moment I crossed the point of no return.

Or the moment I decided to (at first jokingly) marathon Love Live for my 21st birthday... and I ended up enjoying it.

Very minimal as I've rarely watched any anime that wasn't on Toonami back in the day or breaks past regular anime culture like the first season of Attack on Titan. I go to an anime convention once every couple of years but it's mostly to see artists I like and get drunk with friends.

No meaningful damage. The worst annoyance it has caused is making me take a minute to yell at alt-right dipshits that pop up in anime-related Discords and call them the trash they are. I don't put up with that shit.

Good times otherwise, met my last ex because of it.

I've been watching anime in some form for like 20 years. I have a good job, a house, married, and a kid. It's a hobby, it didn't make me any different than I already was at a basic level. As with any hobby, it only becomes a problem when it literally defines everything about you.

Toonami was big for me during my formative years, so I've been dealing with the Anime Curse for my entire life.

On the bright side, social relationships and plenty of other interests/hobbies have kept me grounded in reality. Unless it involves JoJo or giant mecha, I rarely engage with the fuckery.

P.S. Nichijou deserved better.

I honestly need to pull the trigger and destroy everything I own that's still anime related.

There's still hope dammit.

Voted damaged because I thought it was a joke thread. Most of my friends watch anime and are more or less normally adjusted.

Minimal damage.

I'm fine because I recognise that like 90% of anime is absolute garbage.

Stuff like Death Note, Monster, Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and a small handful of Studio Ghibli movies are the only really good stuff worth mentioning.

I can't help but think of JoJo with certain bands now.

But JoJo gave me more of an interest in music, and that interest in music got me connecting with artists and enthusiasts a-like.

Yunno, gotta say... your story's WAY fuckin' wild, but I'm kinda in a similar boat. I ran a forum a decade ago which died five years ago. What I think would be more accurate to say is that MOST anime fans are fine, but the curve into FUCKED UP anime fans gets really steep at some point. I've always watched anime, even shitty waifu trash like Magical Pokaan back in my early teens, but I think I'm barely into it. The fans that I hung around with back on this forum though... got really fucking weird and THAT damaged me way worse. Not just that forum. Other online communities.

Honestly, it kinda seems like at least some of that group were likely already into that and just let it become more and more open over time. That's what it seems like to me as an outsider. Like that's some deep end kinda stuff.

Tendencies maybe, but anime allowed all of that to flourish. They feel validated in their lifestyle choices.

All my friends are obsessed and I have no interest. I don't see the appeal in most of them that seem to treat their audiences like they're 5 in terms of how often they repeat the same shit, and then also include all that fan service.

Don't get me wrong, I love Full metal Alchemist, and I liked some of Hunter X Hunter, but hell, even that spent like 90% of the time going over shit we already know. I'd love a version of Hunter X Hunter with all the dumb shit cut out.

Twinkle Nora Rock Me ruined my life. When I finished that masterpiece, I fell into despair with the knowledge that I'd never find another anime that good. Now that I've seen the light, my life has no more meaning. I can't eat. I can't sleep. Every waking moment of my life is Twinkle Nora Rock Me. Everything that I am has become Twinkle Nora Rock Me. Twinkle Nora Rock Me is love, Twinkle Nora Rock Me is life.

I used to watch a lot in the past. I recently got back into watching One Piece again after putting that on hold for years, watching couple of episodes here and there. I also watch Dragon Ball Super. That's pretty much it, for now.

I resent people saying anime ruined my life.

I did that on my own. I pulled my weight in destroying my life.

I only watch Mob Psycho 100 and Gintama. I read way more, stuff I'm going through is Blade of The Immortal and waiting for next Berserk chapter lol
Recently finished reading Fist of The North Star.
So no, anime or manga never affected me in negative ways, though it did some weird shit to an ex friend of mine. Dude was too much with his definition of friendship and expectation, his reality shaped up in an odd way. It wasn't anime itself that made him think like that, but his own insecurities

Hm, maybe it delayed my development a bit? I've known anime was shit from pretty early on. Now I just watch anime with my girlfriend so I guess that's a win.

Confession: I was always known as the games and anime guy in my grade in high school despite me not actually watching THAT much anime during that time. Come time freshman year of college, my roommate was definitely a bigger anime fan than me, and I just said that I liked anime and would watch through a series occasionally. However, by the end of that freshman year, I was definitely more absorbed in anime having then joined the university's anime club and even went to my first con (got to meet Steve Blum and Todd Haberkorn, it was pretty ace). Now I'm going to sound like a tremendous weeb by saying this, but the last western show I watched all the way through was Breaking Bad, which I watched almost 4 years ago. Everything since then has been anime. There's just so much variety.

Now I'm at the point where I'm buying posters and backing hentai artists on Patreon.

Moderate damage, I'd say. Due to being into anime since middle school. Ah, the good old Toonami days.

Minimal damage for me. Just a little money spent on DVDs when I could afford to do so and some funny looks when I go to the library to borrow manga.

I get kind of sad when the topic somehow becomes one of anime, and obviously the question of "What's your favorite?" comes up and when I say mines no one has heard of it.

Also when people start talking about ongoing shows (usually the shounen ones) and I can't add to the conversation because I usually don't care to watch the Shounen Jump stuff.

It's okay though, because anime is fun.
