How has the Trump Presidency Affected You?

Made shit way more expensive for me. He dropped eye exams from disability insurance so to get my eyes checked and to get contacts is costing me several hundred dollars. And the trade war has made being a skater more expensive than at any other time in history, T-shirts at all skate shops for example are selling at 27$ or more. Everything seems to be marked up at least fifteen dollars compared to a couple years ago.

I began to feel real fear over being a minority. I became estranged from my mother. I've struggled anew with depression and find it hard to envision a future that's anything but disastrous for the planet and our species.

As a middle class white guy? I don't think much has changed personally. I lost a couple of jobs during the recession before Trump and don't feel as worried about that now. I think I got a tax break too, yay. What bothers me most is the "us" vs "them" attitude that continues to develop, as opposed to the two sides working together... for ANYTHING.

Trump's presidency has changed my view on the "news." As a kid, I used to think all news channels were mostly the same and simply there to give its viewers the facts of the matters and let the viewer interpret it all and form their own opinion on any given topic.

Now it seems "news" is merely entertainment... "You'd better feed my confirmation bias or I'll tune into somewhere else!" Multiple posters in multiple threads here are displaying serious anxiety and depression, even though they say their lives have not really been affected. I fear that they're trying their best but treating themselves the worst, and all for little.

Since i actually understand politics and the shit he's doing and i have this thing called empathy, it's awful to say i haven't been affected. I can see the direct dominoes falling years from now based on the actions happening now. I mean for one, the economy is gonna tank eventually, probably during a dem term. Trump has made minorities scared and that makes me feel awful. Hate groups are on the rise and given free reign because of official policies. Defying and diminishing institutions that used to protect the country has become the norm now. Fake news has spread far and wide and the information bubbles have been polarized so much because of the presidential platform endorsing the wrong ones. I mean the list goes on. Everyone is affected by this. But that's the thing, the people that don't get that are the problem.

Besides having no faith in humanity, being in office hasn't effected me directly. I still wish he'd drop dead though.

I have encountered a few ignorant white folks feel comfortable enough to say racist or xenophobic shit out in public. At most, I've laughed in their face or give them a 1000 yard, death stare. Not gonna bother arguing with some hill billy, cracker, because 1) no point in trying to fix stupid and 2) I'm not trying to get shot.

As a white Canadian with a girlfriend of colour, we've avoided vacationing in the country. On a quick day trip to Detroit this year (only our second such trip since the election), we had a waitress comment on how "it's so nice seeing this," referring to us being a mixed couple. It was the first time we'd heard something like that, and it was very sweet of her and all, but I would prefer to avoid running into a situation where the person commenting was less than enthusiastic. We find that more likely to be a possibility in the US, so for now, we don't really visit much, or plan on any extended stays until things cool off.
I'm not saying your concerns are invalid, but Detroit and the entirety of the southeastern part of Michigan is not a place you need to worry about that. That waitress can't possibly be from anywhere near there if she thought your relationship was unique in any way.

It’s made me absolutely despise where I live and the government that runs it. Fuck that bronze, disease infested, mucus covered colostomy bag of a human being.

Not much personally, outside of the never ending embarrassment, the impotent rage towards our checks and balances failing us, and losing respect for people in my life who still support this piece of shit administration.

It’s deepened my depression and anger. I’m just at a loss at the continuous display of stupidity and depravity, and all of these evil racist fucks who’ve crawled out from under their rocks. A literal white supremacist is the mastermind of the Trump admin, so yeah, I don’t think it’s unwarranted. It’s even more maddening that it’s become the norm, and the bizzaro headlines have just become second nature.

My brain can’t reconcile it, it’s like living in a Lovecraftian void.

Stronger support for a centralised EU with its own standing army.

US and therefor NATO isn’t a reliable ally.

Me personally, very little yet I have seen a a direct effect he has caused. A lot of good start-ups from other countries are finding it nearly impossible to setup shop in the USA due to their employees being harassed by immigration. So a lot of them are looking at Canada and moving here. As well a lot of bay area tech are setting up shop in Toronto to get a foot outside the US and is driving up tech salaries and making it harder to acquire staffing for a smaller start-up (luckily I've been here so long that I've been able to build a strong network to find talent).

I have to travel to very rural areas of my state pretty frequently for work and this administration has really, really emboldened people expressing their shitty, super racist comments in the open without any shame (I am black).

Plus, the Department of Education's swerve into trying to not honor the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is directly fucking over some of my coworkers and myself.

As a comfortable white guy who relocated to Canada 5 years ago, I have not been materially affected. However, it has shattered some illusions I had about democracy and principles in America, and has made me pessimistic about the future of all politics in the internet age.

It’s also made me wish death on certain people with an unhealthy frequency.

only thing that changed was ppl realized America was still racist at its core. Personally tho, nothing has changed except I follow politics more.

Uranus, get it?!? YOUR. ANUS.
The shitty side of my family members' opinions have come out, and been reinforced (by the President's words and attitude). Some rifts were caused, and some new alliances made. I lost what little love I had for religion, and my wholesale buy of Christianity was destroyed.

Today, I've mostly learned to cast all the negative shit aside and take better control of my social life, media consumption, and faith. I'm much happier than I was in 2016, but I've definitely lost all hope in getting this prick out the office. The left are far too pissed off to properly coalesce around some unifying winning strategy. At least, it seems that way.

I have a bunch of little things that affected me after I became disabled and was seeking help. Long drawn out journey, but paraphrased, it was just more difficult to receive any sort of financial help.

98% of my family voted for him, so being with them is always walking on broken glass. I don't see them much as a result.

None of my issues even amount to 1/1000 of what minorities have to deal with daily. I am lucky I suppose. I can only imagine what their every day must be, so I try to listen and help where I can.

As someone who had to sneak in political discourse with liberal friends under most of Obama's time in office, it's been cool seeing so many people get back into it. Not always for better (can sometimes remind me of the born-again zealotry), but I do hope it sticks when things go "well" for the democratic party again. It's nice to have more people incorporating it into their lives, especially at the local levels!

Yeah, you're right. Not to say that plenty of the vitriol isn't earned but you can't make a viable coalition in America with a tent pole of "fuck white people," which seems to be the only thing disparate voices of the left can agree on.

My parents are from Mexico. I always wonder if the asshole will ever actually close the border.

Gun Violence and Saving The Planet are not just on him, but it sucks. Exasperating the problem.

Economically doing well, although Trump admin has probably hurt my company more than helped.

Barely speak (if ever) to the conservative members of my family now.

Listen to a lot more gaming podcasts because politics and news stress me out too much.

I know it’s unpopular on Era but it also made me buy a gun in case shit gets real bad.

I lost the little respect I had for American World Leadership after Obama.

As for Trump Supporters and the GOP, I'm not gonna get into that as it would get me banned.

One good thing though, I think the EU noticed that America is not an Ally.

I’m a relatively well off straight white dude so not much directly I guess. It’s mostly the unending mental health strain as I constantly worry about the future my daughter has to grow up in and the immense sadness I feel for the millions of people who are the intended victims here.

On the “plus” side it’s finally lead me to cull some people out of my life that I should have a long time ago.

Mental health. Worrying about others, worrying about the future. Watching one's country grow increasingly fascist should affect anyone who isn't a bad person.

I saw the racism come out hard in folks around here in WV over a black man becoming president for 8 years. Then when Trump came about acting like a loudmouthed angry racist entertainer it radicalized them thinking their hatred was just. When he became president I saw folks go off the deepend and not only act as bigoted as i suspected but far beyond it. Like they now believe the more severe the racist, sexist, xenophobic shit the better for them somehow. I have literally witnessed folks discussing purges. I see more casual bigotry in conversation than sports come up in conversations some days.

Ive had it. I cant take this. I'm cutting out this part of my life. I'm actively trying to leave the entire state. The family that matters I know will still be in touch. The rest I dont care about. Goodbye, but the versions of you I'll miss haven't existed in a long while. I'm going to sell my house even at a loss to take myself away. I want out of coal country. I want to go green in my career to make up for the time I've spent working for a coal plant, because yes climate change is real WV even if it cuts into your precious coal industry image. I've seen what we put out. I know its killing shit. I've walked past the piles of dead birds daily. And no in spite of the President ordering decades of climate data to be deleted immediately to try and get rid of proof to their heresy arguments to try and slow down the epa it is real. The truth doesnt delete because one man decides to go full Hitler and have a book burning. I want to go to a blue state where theres a chance folks enjoy each others differences and I want forget about the state that time forgot. I've been here 38 years. Nothings improved and they celebrate that like its an accomplishment. Our only industries are failing and I see plant closures in my companies future. At this point I just dont care anymore. I want to leave. I take pride in doing the best job I can but I dont want to save them from their own selves anymore.

I hate it here. I cant leave soon enough.

Directly... honestly very little. My habit of keeping up with the day to day news is a detriment to my mental health and I'm generally more stressed out and just... worried.

Thinking about how the past three years have made it more unlikely that this country will ever have sensible healthcare in my lifetime is distressing, but thing's haven't actually gotten worse for me yet. I'm also constantly frustrated by our institutions' refusal to do anything about climate change which is terrifying as someone who wants to have kids.

Nothings really changed for me. Although it’s shown me the president does absolutely fuck all. And that any idiot could be a president.
