So today Huawei announced its new 7.2 inch Mate 20 X tablet (with phone capabilities). However, instead of comparing it to other tablets or smartphones, the focus of the presentation was "it's better than Switch"

Some specs:

  • SoC: HiSilicon Kirin 980Octa-core (4x Cortex-A77 @ 2,8 GHz & 4x Cortex-A55 @ 1,8 GHz)GPU ARM Mali-G76
  • 1080p or 1440p screen
  • 5000 mAh battery
  • 4 or 6 GB
  • 128 GB internal storage
  • 7.2 inch AMOLED display

Sure Huawei. Can't wait to play Candy Crush in glorious 1080p.

The phone / tablet starts at $900.

At that price, it had better be!

If I had the disposable income I would totally consider that thing, though. I'd hack it out into the last portable emulator device I'd ever need. Provided, of course, that there's a right-side clip for buttons that they just haven't shown yet...

That $900 price point isn't really what most anyone would ever pay for it. You'd buy it on contract with data plan from a carrier for a lot less.

For three times the retail price of the Switch, I would hope so. Ironically, it's not.

What type of chipset is this running and what are it's specs? For $900 it should be a significant advantage in that area at least.

Android OS?

I'm sure technically it is, and we'll all have a blast paying $900 to play all the hottest Android hits at the silkiest framerates.

Due to the fact that people only use them for talk, snap, and text I've never really thought it. How powerful are mobile devices in general compared to the switch? They cost so much more. Obviously not dedicated to gaming to still
