HuffPo has found a 2016 video of an interview with Michael Bloomberg where he appeared to blame Obama for racial division (remarks can be found at around minute 54):

Michael Bloomberg Appeared To Blame Obama For Racial Division In 2016
The Democratic candidate has been touting his relationship with the former president in his ubiquitous campaign ads.

Though Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg has been playing up his relationship with Barack Obama in his recent campaign ads, the billionaire once blamed the former president for letting racial division thrive.

During a November 2016 speaking event at Oxford University in England, the former New York City mayor suggested that Obama had failed to address issues of racial segregation:
I would argue that today we are more segregated, in America certainly, than we were, in terms of race, than we were a dozen years ago, and yet we're just finishing up eight years with our first Black president. "Why are we more separated than we were before?" is the question you've got to ask yourself. Why during the Obama administration didn't we pull together? Ask the president. That's his job really to pull people together.
You can listen to the remarks around minute 54.

Those critical comments from 2016 throw a bit of a wrench in the image of his and Obama's relationship that Bloomberg's campaign has tried to push. A Bloomberg ad that began circulating Feb. 5 centers entirely on past supportive comments Obama has made about the candidate, including one praising him for bringing people together.

I have a feeling this is only the beginning. Dude has a ton of skeletons, and criticizing Obama in this way is going to hurt pretty badly if it blows up

Obama is to blame for racial division and also he ended racism according to the supreme court. America lost their minds over a black president.

His campaign is starting to become reminiscent of Trump's campaign in 2016. Videos and reports that in theory should end any sort of support for him but he keeps slowly building a following.

I guess we'll see what Super Tuesday brings in for him.

The thing to watch out for on Super Tuesday is not Bloomberg but Biden's performance. If Biden craters, the moderates lose their viable candidate and will start thinking about pivoting to Bloomberg.

As a new Yorker, a fever dream out of left field meteoric rise in popularity for Bloomberg would be far more scary than Trump, and I hope it doesn't play out like this. Bloomberg is SUPER fucking competent when he wants something, and if he is a Trojan Horse Dem Candidate to continue the work of Trump, kiss America goodbye cause he would turn that dial up to 11.

Bloomberg was really out here eager to tell any and everyone with ears about how much disdain he has for black and brown people. Couldn't shut up about the shit even a little bit. Now suddenly he wants to scuttle it all since it's inconvenient rather than actually convincing people that he's changed.

Tell anyone you know who is even remotely thinking about voting Bloomberg in the primary to not vote for a Republican.

He's literally Trump but with a little more subtlety, a little less charisma, and a greater ability to achieve his goals.

Not surprising considering the other video where he blamed the crash on poor people.

Why do people keep saying Obama endorsed him? Wasn't that video clip in Bloomberg's ad from a rally? I never saw that as an endorsement.

Man fuck him. Tired of aholes like him for putting the blame on a Obama. America has always been this way and the only reason people came to vote for Trump is because they hated to see a black man in the White House aka they are racist.

Lol. Only positive to Bloomberg's running is the spotlight it's putting to his racist record on a national level.

What's funny is most of these aren't hot seat interviews while appealing to special interests groups that appreciate racist shit like this (NYPD, etc) this is him shooting the shit while being retired from politics.

Obama and he shot the shot as elites plenty of times. I doubt this bothers obama in the least. Class solidarity and all that. Especially against the threat of socialism

Really shitty perspective for us ants though

Hell it won't just be black people on the chopping block either. These exposes have shown how much he sucks on race but I can almost guarantee a guy like Bloomberg is just as regressive as Trump on women's and LGBTQ+ issues.

What? It's not about it bothering Obama, not everything is through a class lens, it's a white dude blaming a black guy for racist white guys.

In America, "liberal" is just a generic term for left-leaning. Bernie Sanders is the "most liberal" candidate in the race. Think about how ignorant your use of the term is.

The claim that Bloomberg blames or appears to blame Obama for racial division is misleading and disingenuous. If anything, Bloomberg claimed that the Obama administration had not done enough to combat segregation. Here is the quote again:

I would argue that today we are more segregated, in America certainly, than we were, in terms of race, than we were a dozen years ago, and yet we're just finishing up eight years with our first Black president. "Why are we more separated than we were before?" is the question you've got to ask yourself. Why during the Obama administration didn't we pull together? Ask the president. That's his job really to pull people together.

That is not logically equivalent to the Obama administration being responsible for racial division.

I'm surprised that HuffPo didn't point out Bloomberg's remarks on young people supporting Bernie Sanders (61 minute mark):

There was a guy, Bernie Sanders, who would've beaten Donald Trump. The polls showed he would've walked away with it, but Hilary Clinton got the nomination for a variety of reasons. What did Donald Trump [sic] stand for? He stood for something he called it democratic socialism and the young people - I don't mean to knock young people, I wish I was one again - but young people listened to Donald Trump.. uh to uh Bernie Sanders and they said, "yeah democratic ... that's good... socialism...yeah, that's that social media stuff" because our kids no longer learn civics in school, they no longer study western history, they no longer read western literature. We are trying to change and dumb down the system and if you don't know what happened in the past you're gonna have to relive it. It's unfortunate, but true.

A Q&A with the audience is, understandly, not an opportune time to debate democratic socialism, but I think Bloomberg's comment was short-sighted and dismissive.

I'm critical of Obama but he didn't cause the divisiveness. That's racism Mike.

As someone who feels the same way about a lot of presidents/politicians (i.e. all of them need to do more to combat bigotry, particularly white politicians who benefit from white supremacy in the first place), in the context of who Bloomberg is, that is just him passing the buck to Obama on an issue he himself perpetuated through his advocacy of increasing police targeting of minorities and fucking redlining. It's disingenuous coming out of his mouth specifically which is why it shouldn't be taken in good faith at all. He doesn't know or care what "enough" is and has shown that he never has cared so I consider his "point" about Obama moot.

Can we stop with these semantical games please? He blames Obama for the country becoming more divided on race when there is nothing Obama can do to stop racist people from hating him because he is black. Whether you want to use blame, not combat enough etc doesn't actually matter. He is putting the onus on Obama and not on the racists. Its baffling that you cannot see that.

Funny how CNN/ABC/CBS/MSNBC/FOX/NYT/PBS/NPR/WP/BloombergNews(lmfao) couldn't find any of these interviews.

Like i said. Its shitty for us ants who have to care about things like racial injustice because we arent powerful enough to ignore the struggles of those who are easy prey.

Dont deny the reality of the black elites being fine with bloombergs views as class friends though.

Those in the media dismissing critics of bb as sanders people are just a few examples. NeoLiberals when it comes down to it have a tendency to not have issues with lookingn the other way

Thank you for the context. Outside of the few posts about Bloomberg on era I don't know much about him, so I took the comments at face value. My comments have been detrimental and undermine real issues.

Did you leave a second paragraph out of that first quote? Because right now it looks like it says exactly the thing you say it doesn't say.

I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to play semantics games or make light of an important issue. I saw what I thought was an inconsistency and I reacted disproportionately.

Here's the thing. We can end this shit by electing people who actually reflect our values. I'd say "younger" people but like, Bernie. Haha.
