So they started deadnaming her just cause? The best arc? Of course you should :P
They didn't had a problem with Alluka until her host has revealed.
So they started deadnaming her just cause?
Nah i don't think so
Killua always had a little sister but the zoldycs only saw a 4th son
The point is that they sorta never cared about her choices, both alluka and nanika identify as female but they always refer to the kid as a monster and as a "he"... i mean ok if there's a female demon possessing your son and he isnt your kid anymore and you wanna talk about the demon wouldn't you use "she"? But no, they actually believe the kid is wicked from birth and use the biological pronoun...Did he call her sister in the flashbacks? I thought all that just started happen after they locked her up.
I don't remember if they already call him differently than Killua in the flashback.
EDIT: Yeah i was wrong they already called her differently than Killua in the flashback.

Like, it's a very subtle allegory to how a conservative family treats a trans kid... I just find it odd cause they are ok with Kalluto being a crossdresser, but that could just mean that's as far as their understanding can go...
I don't like talking much about it cause i'm afraid I'll fuck up cause I'm not trans :/, the best video I know on the matter is in portuguese, too lol but I can send a link of all pronouns used in the japanese text to talk about her and you can draw your conclusions from it. The author wrote it cause the hxh wiki article also denied alluka her pronouns

Right away!Yeah i gotcha you, i thought that they only started to treat her like shit after the Nanika was revealed and she got lock up. But i was wrong in the flashbacks they already call her a "he/him".
That document is pretty good, a lot of things get lost with the translations, that's a good analysis of the wording.
Hey im portuguese by the way :)
Right away!
It's a pretty basic video introducing people to the themes, i like it a lot but not everyone can watch and idk if they made/will make eng subs... the english videos i saw about the zoldycs in english had one instance of straight up not respecting alluka's decision ruining an otherwise good analisys of their family dynamics =_=
So rare being able to post these ^_^

hell yeah, the person that did that list is amazing considering none of those languages are their original one, and going through all that work to get the scans and pronoun listing, it's just nuts... japanese allows you to be pretty damn vague when talking about someone else's gender, we don't have that in portuguese, so i understand why they might sound nicer when you watch in english or with some fan scans/subs (cause people might just mess up the wording like what happened with Pitou), i love how every word choice in this saga was deliberated, and the fact he did all the storyboard in two weeks yet crammed so much nuance in is just insaneThats a cool video, short and direct to the point.
But this list you posted - https://docs.google.com/document/d/12cblaTBjkjWdqTd9NTzUeSR_1vhj2mnl_4Lh7K3oJ_I/mobilebasic - is amazing.
I just read a big chunk of it and the amount of things that get lost/changed in translation, specially in scans, is pretty significant.
That must be why i thought that they were cool with her in the flashback (which they clearly aren't), the scans must have had a weird wording.
it's a girl's kimono, but there's a japanese tradition young men would be dressed in girl's clothes so evil spirits that bring diseases would be fooled and not attack them so they grow up strong, maybe kikyou believed on that to some extentI remember reading somewhere that Kalluto's outfit is some kind of traditional outfit worn by young boys. Not sure how accurate that is.
I'd be 100% okay with never ever seeing a live action adaptation of HxH thank you very muchWhere's my live action Hunter x Hunter Netflix? I wanna have arguments over who they cast as Hisoka!
I'd be 100% okay with never ever seeing a live action adaptation of HxH thank you very much
Can i interest you in some theater? With the 99' voice actors.
Finished Chimera Ant 2011 anime.
In tears just finished chimera ant...wow....
That ending hit me. I'll write my entire thoughts later but yeah...wow.
Minus two people in there that hate the arc or hate the show in general that thread's going to be a mess.Toonami is so close to that episode and I'm so looking forward to the reactions lol
I have seen this arc like four times, it's all kinds of great.Finished Chimera Ant 2011 anime.

That ending hit me. I'll write my entire thoughts later but yeah...wow.
Idk if i love yorkshin mostly for nostalgia or for not dragging so much like some bits of CAFinished my rewatch of Yorknew. Still a solid arc, but definitely doesn't touch the Chimera Ant arc for me.
Hmm... I suppose I'll see where they originate from later so I can't comment on that. That said, from the current arc it wasn't believable for me in particular.Kite just severely underestimated the Royal Guards, he thought he could handle the ants which he definitely was doing but didn't expect the gap to jump that high.
Also considering where the ants came from (continue the manga to find out) the powerscaling makes perfect sense, there's also hints of that when Netero was the guy to come out when Kite disciples send the initial report (before the RG were even born).
Knov was near one of a most sadistic and evil nen while being completely unprotected himself, the sheer gigantic stress just made him lose his hair.
And Welfin was in the presence of the most powerful thing that was about to eat his face, he was lucky he didn't drop dead imedialty by an heart attack.
I think the gore of the first stages is more of a tool that will get you off guard when revisiting the arc... the ants are beasts, animals, that gradually learn to be human and less shitty, you start to have empathy for them for how human-like they get, and that's totally opposite to how you should feel for them... I felt bad for Pitou even though she was a real bitch to kite and a sick fuck doing those human experiments because these ants were literally born yesterday... It's the same thing togashi did with Killua, i love that lil kid but his kill count might be higher than a lot of ants in this saga, but it's not like he had a saying in any of that cause he was raised that way... I think that saga is a nice way of humanity stating:"you might wanna be like us, but you underestimate how far we'll go to keep going". It summarizes how awful and beautiful humanity can be, be it in the ants newfound humanity or in the actual humans present there.Finished Chimera Ant early this morning and here are my thoughts. I will separate this into two categories.
Things I did not like or care for
1.
The arc starts off very dark with children beating eaten in a detailed way which is very gross and feels unnecessary to detail it in this fashion. This is extended further when they do it with another child in Ponzu getting brutally murdered and devoured by an ant. Later on when the King awakens he eats another kid after the mother is killed right in front of her. Just...all of this is fucking disgusting and it feels like gore porn. I honestly think the author is a sick fuck for detailing stuff in this manner. I don't see the point of having kids like this to this elaborate level. I did research and apparently he is a fan of gore which explains a lot but to me it actually is damaging the story with when are constantly trying to make a "shock" instead of a scene that feels realistic and it's generally disturbing such as using "chop sticks" as I'll call them to interrogate someone's brain.
Another issue I've found with the portrayal of children per se is Palm essentially being a pedo going after Gon and their weird date and her obsessiveness. I shouldn't be surprised with characters like Hisoka but it just further shows that HxH has some shit in it I really don't like and I wish it wasn't there.
2.
I feel like Kite was being rather dumb throughout this arc? If he was this knowledgeable about the ants why would he go in alone? Sure he was trying to stop the queen in time but surely someone of his caliber would've known better than to charge solo into an ant's nest. (His original intention was to go without Gon and Killua which ended up being a clear detriment to him as he loses his arm).
3.
The powerscaling in this arc is pretty ridiculous. I'm aware the ants are eating humans and sometimes nen users but nothing to me warrants the sheer destructive and unparalleled power even from the feeding involved of these ants. Just the pure number of fighters that can just wreck most of the chars shit just made the premise of the entire arc unbelievable to me.
I also feel like the intelligence of the King's Guard and smarts to be way too high for characters even despite the fact they were made from humans the level of it feels a bit much at times. I'd even say in some cases the interesting part of the characters fall flat a little bit when you realize how perfect they seem to be at times.
4.
In episode 80 there's this weird part where everyone agrees they should leave and they are about to head right then and there, literally, then one of the group is like "LETS GET OUT OF HEEEERE!!!" while it zooms on his face for like literally no reason then as this happens he gets killed and beheaded from behind then as his heads on the ground he apparently is still alive and is looking at that ant that killed him and goes "AHHH IT'S THEM!". Like...what the heck even was that scene? So bizarre.
5. I feel like one major issue with this arc is how much of a slog it can be. The first half and the middle is especially bad with but even near the end it can be like this with Meruem forgetting his memories. I think sometimes this arc is too long winded for it's own good despite some of the pros it brings. But yeah early on there's a real pacing issue. A lot of the characters in the ant colony don't really get time to do much anything and are forgotten quickly.
6.
The perverted old man ant has a technique called "Love Shower" that entraps the girl in a web and she has to take her clothes off to win.
7.
I don't really like how Knov grows old with white hair then loses his hair despite being a real good hunter then the wolf guy later grows old because of fear of these ants. It felt kinda stupid ngl.
8.
Episode 128...what the hell am I watching...? lol
Things I enjoyed
1.
I really enjoy the progression of Gon and Killua throughout this. They get ample time to explore various aspects of them such as Gon's generic good guy always having faith side of him being truly tested and his battle within his own self. Killua on the other hand gets the most development with trying to overcome his own fears but also trying to find out his place in this world with Gon. The dynamic here is really great.
Knuckle in particular gets a lot of character development too and honestly I'm in love with him as a character. Not only is he cool and his morals are freaking great, but he has a pompadour!
2.
The progression of Meruem is pretty great too. Someone who has the power to do whatever they want and is pretty much a murderer with no restraint ends up building pride and morality over the course with his time with Komugi. He also seems open to just communicating with people with views outside his own.
3.
Even though there are a lot of forgettable characters, there is actually a lot of great ones too. Also the character design for this series in general is pretty great.
4.
The fight choreography and the sheer depth of said fights is impressive. These were some really enjoyable fight scenes.
5.
Because Pitou is such an evil mother fucker it feels so satisfying with Gon transforms into his Slim Jim guy form. I honestly got a kick out of him just WAM...WAM...WAM on her head as he talks calmy. lol
6.
The animation quality and artwork is so amazing and consistent it makes me was Dragon Ball Super or One Piece had something like this. Mad House is great.
7.
The sheer...sincerity and care behind Meruem's last moments really was brilliant writing. You have someone here who committed such atrocious and awful acts against humans with no regard for life, was going to enslave the entire world but here you are in the end crying for him....and why? Well it's because you sympathize with his progression and honest nature but at the same time you see a love between him and Kumugi in a realistic way. Along with that you also understand just how vile humanity can be and then you start to question how wrong he really was and maybe it was understandable some of the things he did despite how vile and disgusting they were.
By the end you don't want him to die you want him to stop this rampage and be happy, but before that can happens you can see the true evil of humanity in the form of that poison bomb that takes his life and Kumigi's. This individual part is built up throughout the arc subtly and when executed so well at the end helps you understand a lot of the premise and some of the dark parts of this arc in more detail and it's attempt at conveying a parallel between human and beast. It also helps you forget some of the flaws of this arc because the pro of the scene feels so high.
Final Thoughts
All in all despite how I find a lot of this arc disgusting and unwarranted and how it drags on in ways I feel is a bit too much and some parts are silly, the progression of Meruem, Gon, Killua, Knuckle, and Shoot as well as the various enjoyable fights (which Morel contributed a lot too!) makes this a pretty enjoyable arc. For me it's like a hit and a miss in that when it misses it leaves you bored or wondering why time is being wasted but when it hits you knocks you out with greatness.
I think if I were to elaborate further, the gore (at least in terms of the anime) feels a bit too...gratious in animation or focus. I don't mind so much that obscene things happen from a narrative standpoint but if the visual is too strong it takes away from the story for me and that's ignoring my squeemish side.I think the gore of the first stages is more of a tool that will get you off guard when revisiting the arc... the ants are beasts, animals, that gradually learn to be human and less shitty, you start to have empathy for them for how human-like they get, and that's totally opposite to how you should feel for them... I thought you'd say something about Colt and Reina lol i hope someday they find eachother again ;-; that was my silver lining about the kids lol
Knuckle is a wonderful preson and im glad this character that'll probably never show up again got so much screentime, his Hatsu is the cutest thing ever, too. Knov got old to prove a point that he was being an ass to the kids when he himself didn't know what they were talking about... He chickened out at Pouf's En, wasn't even Pitou's lol
I'm glad you made it through cause the next saga is one of the most entertaining and high octane i know in hxh lol it's not that deep in talking about serious theme but i like how personal it feels
Also, Togashi saved the power scale with a nuke, how did people not ragequit lol he's so good ;-;
I wished 2011 didnt start like a kids show... 99 anime showed right away things would get dark so the shock wasnt so hard on people
Hmm... I suppose I'll see where they originate from later so I can't comment on that. That said, from the current arc it wasn't believable for me in particular.
As for the latter part. So Hunter X Hunter is a pretty silly series, yeah? This part really depends on the individual but in this particular area the silliness just felt a bit too much for me lol.
It just made me laugh at the situation.
I'd also note the current arc in the manga is probably gonna match the CA arc for darkness, fucked up events and monstrous characters.
Thing is, aside from the kid killing it's not much worse than the manga or the old anime had... the direction makes it heavy and it still iss the darkest part, but the gap wasn't this big before y'know? 2011 made silly stuff like killua removing a guy's heart neatly wrapped in cloth, how thoughtful of him!I think if I were to elaborate further, the gore (at least in terms of the anime) feels a bit too...gratious in animation or focus. I don't mind so much that obscene things happen from a narrative standpoint but if the visual is too strong it takes away from the story for me and that's ignoring my squeemish side.
And yeah, haha I probably should've made note of that I forgot cause there was so many things to write! But yeah I was really happy about that, I was also really happy the mother didn't die throughout all this. I do hope as you said Colt gets his chance to see his momma!
The nuke thing is interesting. It feels like a get out of jail free card but I feel like the flaws with introducing a low budget device like that are outweighed by the message he's trying to convey and how it is written.
Either way I look forward to watching more. I literally marathonned all these episodes in a short time! that was a doozy.
Next arc is silly fun and awful at the same time if you stop to do the kill countYou probably aren't gonna be to hot on the next arc then.
I don't think it's silly (ok maybe Welfin scene was funny), but Knov mental breakdown definitely wasn't supposed to be silly, even Palm tried to kill herself when she's was found out.
I looked at some manga chapters and I think the lack of detail in his artwork makes it a little better for me? lol.Thing is, aside from the kid killing it's not much worse than the manga or the old anime had... the direction makes it heavy and it still iss the darkest part, but the gap wasn't this big before y'know? 2011 made silly stuff like killua removing a guy's heart neatly wrapped in cloth, how thoughtful of him!

If he thinks that the ants are overpowered i can't wait for his reaction when Nanika appears, specially the reveal that she's a walking deus ex machina when Killua is giving the "orders"
They also censored the pig ant with a bucket of legs and the humans dead bodies in the background. And the whole Pokkle "chop chop" death scene.
Kinda dissapointed that Togashi went that route, i liked when there was a balance between the Wish/Request. But he put himself into a corner with Gon condition.
It's ok, as i said, the gore shocked me and it wasn't that much needed, i just dont like how the new show toned down everything until york shin and sold hxh as a kids showbtw just as note fellas I did enjoy the arc I just have a few criticisms but even if I really super enjoyed something I'd always have some criticisms.
My mindset is that it doesn't matter how many flaws something has, what matters most is if the pros outweigh them. In this case they did for me.
Yeah and they market it as THE FOUR GUYS ARE ALWAYS TOGETHA!! Kinda thing. They are kinda underminding his work by doing this. xDIt's ok, as i said, the gore shocked me and it wasn't that much needed, i just dont like how the new show toned down everything until york shin and sold hxh as a kids show
I wouldnt show that to a less than 15 year old kid D:

needed to setup dark continent and for that you start with something broken, these are the rules
He can be a bit much at times but...I feel his pros outweigh whatever cons he has. Sure some will say "it's better to show with actions than words", but in this regard it felt like you were watching a nature show and you those words help you stay focused and you see more about what's going on due to it. It's like more of a glimpse into who these characters are and what's going on in their mind so it's bit exhausting but I like it.Kokonoe what did you think of the narrator? That's a pretty divisive opinion.[/SPOILER]
