Yep, that's right, my main focus in gaming is the AAA offering. Just love those blockbuster video games for their production values and wow factor leaving me speechless in front of the TV. But I've noticed that many of you prefer indies or even AA titles for being more innovative and prone to gameplay experiments. I still play them, but don't enjoy them as much as big AAA releases. Am I in the minority on ERA when it comes to gaming taste?

Nothing wrong with that. Play what you like. I tend more towards indie/AA but that's a function of the genres I prefer being more represented there than anything.

There are very few AAA games that hold my attention nowadays. They're all kind of congealing into one big gigantic blob of The Same Game to me, especially as far as western games are concerned.

RPGs are almost completely gone now, which means everything's some kind of open world game with token RPG elements stapled to it, designed around bloat instead of careful design. It's just...boring.

I'll play anything good, but my main pulls lately have been AA and indie titles like Elex, Outward, Underrail, Remnant: From the Ashes and Mutant Year Zero. I did just beat Jedi Fallen Order and I've been playing a bit of Death Stranding here and there, I plan to spend more time with Greedfall over the holidays.

I'm indifferent to production values, doesn't mean i can't enjoy a AAA game if it's good.

Tho my favorite recent games are indies most of the time, but that's not a rule.

I also tend to buy more indies because they're cheaper, so i play more indies in the end for $$$ reasons as well.

I'd say I'm more into indies and AA nowadays. Depends on the game though really. I definitely play AAA too.

Hopefully you are the minority here, because playing only AAA and ignoring a lot of games is pretty sad

Where is the option i prefer good games regardless of their budget?

Yeah this board is mostly people speaking up for things they don't get enough credit. I think the biggest part of the video game market has moved away from the hardcore. That's ok to me but others take issue. I find the absolute hate of multiplayer games on this forum crazy.

If I could I would play AAA all the time, but those games are becoming so similar that the number of them I actually buy each year is 2 or 3 (if that).

Indies and AA (especially on PC) offer a lot more variety.

Even in this place it's pretty obvious AAA games are the most popular out of everything, just look at OT sizes.

Looking at Era's GOTY 2018 list I'd say you're in good company. It was largely big, AAA, action-adventure games. God of War, Spider-Man, RDR2, AC Odyssey etc.

Indie games are rad, you should play more! But nothing wrong with blockbuster action games.

i usually do not want to play indie games on a big screen myself i only play them on my switch but most of my games i play are usually by Big publishers (Square nintendo etc) or well known names (Iga with bloodstained , etc.) But nothing wrong with that only so much time exists. from now till march i think i am only buying one non big game

I'll play whatever as long as has a few fresh ideas. Usually, there's not a lot of that in AAA. Just more of the same but incrementally better in some way, which also is nice every now and then, to be fair.

Anything, as long as it's good.

AAAs do have the advantage of the "wow" factor, which can make it easier to forgive a few shortcomings that may be more noticeable on AA or Indie games. Can't deny that. But anything goes.

Problem with AAA nowadays is that everything is a grind and derivative. Maybe it's always been like that. Maybe it's more that I'm tired of it. I still mostly play AAA

I play a mix of all, and while I firmly believe most AAA games to be trash, a good AAA game blows the rest out of the water. So while they're rare, but when you have a AAA game firing on all cylinders, there's nothing better. That said, most of the time they're just focus-tested games with unnecessary bloat (read: rpg elements) and homogenized design and they're the worst of the worst.

Indie games tend to have good, creative ideas but never really capitalize on them for obvious reasons (lack of budget) and AA games tend to be indie games with AAA aspirations, but they're kind of a middle-ground; neither as creative as indies, nor as polished and eye-catching as AAA's.

They can all have great games. I'd say one isn't inherently better than the other, they just need to play to their strengths and they often don't.

No. Era just has a massive blindspot when in comes to certain genres but let's not kid ourselves when the site goes down, either here or the old placed, more often than not it is due to a major AAA title announcement.

I mostly play AAA games with the occasional AA.
I could count indie games I liked this gen on one hand (but then it was an epic love affair, like with Slay the Spire or Night in the Woods).

I love them all. I also like most genres except multiplayer only games, sports games, deck building games and anything with the word roguelike in the description - which disqualifies 83,6% of indie games :P. So I spend way too much money on video games. I probably spend most time playing AAA games.

I don't get how you can think that is remoterly true when you actually go look at activity. 300+ pages for Death Stranding, 150+ for Jedi Fallen Order, an 80 page thread for RDR2's year late PC port's performance (plus 50 for the game itself).

Time is a limited commodity and AAA games offer greatest immersion and often very high quality narrative, so I prefer them.

Some indie games or AA games are fantastic too of course and I play many.

No, you are not in the minority. Just look at all the GOTY threads from the last several years.

i try out indies and smaller games here and there, but it's games like FFVII, Cyberpunk or The Last of Us that makes me buy a console

Look at NPD and other regional sales charts and you'll have your answer. Look at the games chosen to win awards.

I wanted to say that I mostly don't play AAA games, but looking over my list of games I've finished this year - over half where, or are, AAA.

I like weird Japanese games and Indie stuff, I do like Japanese AAA stuff like Sekiro, REmake 2, and DMCV.

So I dunno, I just don't care about big western games most of the time.

AAA is where I spend a lot of time. The games are usually bigger in scope with more polish.

Also I think AAA, AA and Indie all face problems with games falling into being derivative.

it's weird to me to pit like 10 franchises against the entire totality of all other video games. i spend a lot of time all over the budgetary spectrum.
