First up, if you want one or both of the Evil Dead films, what do you make of this? Haha. Probably way too easy for Evil Dead fans.

While I'm here talking about US blu ray. What's the deal with the cellophane wrap they use under the slip cover sticking to the spine?
Also, why does it look like you're supposed to cut out the bar code? That's baffling.

My Blu-ray copy of Walk the Line (Joaquin Phoenix Johnny Cash bio-pic) came with an extra Movies Anywhere code. First to ask gets it.

Sony Pictures closes, and now Ultra Violet as well. Got this email:

We are writing to inform you that the UltraViolet service is planning to shut down on July 31, 2019. You are receiving this message because you signed up for an UltraViolet Library or for a service that created an UltraViolet Library for you.

What does this mean for you?
  • Between January 31 and July 31, 2019
    • You can continue to access your UltraViolet movies and TV shows through the retailer(s) linked to your UltraViolet Library.
    • You can also continue to purchase new movies and TV shows and redeem digital codes by following the redemption instructions. Depending on the retailer, these new purchases and redemptions may or may not be added to your UltraViolet Library.
    • Linking your UltraViolet Library to additional retailers can maximize your access to your Library and help avoid potential disruption.
  • After the shutdown date
    • Your UltraViolet Library will automatically close and, in the majority of cases, your movies and TV shows will remain accessible at previously-linked retailers.
    • You can continue to make online purchases and redeem codes, but these may only be available through that retailer, and will not be added to your UltraViolet Library.
What should you do now?
  • As soon as possible, login at myuv.com and choose Retailer Services to verify the retailers linked to your UltraViolet Library. If your Library is not currently linked to a retailer or if you would like to link to additional participating retailers, select one or more retailers to link to your UltraViolet Library.
  • Don't unlink or close your UltraViolet Library, as UltraViolet and retailers will be working together to maximize your continued access to movies and TV shows.
Look for further communications from UltraViolet and your retailers over the coming months, as some retailers may disconnect from UltraViolet before July 31.

Oh was that one of the work-arounds with using it under VPN? That stinks :/ Region-locked movie codes is no fun, especially when I found out about Canada having a different code "region" as US, despite discs being from the exact same region.

Yea often times you could add UV movies to your account in Canada or the UK and they would migrate to your US account.

I got that email this morning too, but I don't really understand the accessing the library part.
Does it mean i'll still have access to the movies, but through Flixster only, which my account is linked with and UV will just cease to exist?

There's been a couple of occasions where my library would unlink and I'd lose like 600 movies in vudu. Hope they get that squared away. RIP UVVU

There was a time when I was dumb and would just redeem a movie wherever the sheet said.. ie the studio in many cases.

I hope all of those don't just disappear. The studios are batshit crazy if they want to push digital distribution on everyone, yet don't take absolute care to ensure everyone keeps access to all of their content when UV closes.
