So I decided to play a bit of VR Chat since I haven't played in a few months, then I just had the most wonderful experience ever :D

So I logged in and decided to go into the presentation room. As it's all loading up I notice everyone is stood still which is a bit odd. Then everything loads. All I hear is one person on mic spamming a website name, over and over again. On my screen there are hundreds upon hundreds of images flashing in front of my eyes. These images are the worst things you could ever imagine. Images of dead bodies, scat, destroyed private parts, rape and much much more. I couldn't leave in game, the images blocked the view of the in game menus, everyone was trapped. The only way to leave was to shut the game down.

I've seen stuff like this in games before and was expecting stuff like this eventually with the game being open and all, but holy fucking shit that was horrifying. Seeing this shit in VR is next level fuckery, having all of the shit literally in front of my eyes.

So this is my warning to you all, this could happen to you as well. Extra heads up for streamers cause this shit would get you instant banned.

Well this sounds like the setup for a Black Mirror episode. VR Chat's user generated content makes it primed for malicious material like this to exist. It sounds to me like both the greatest strength and weakness of their design.

Yeah, the devs announced they are working on upping the moderation for those intrusive trolls. Hopefully they're weeded out soon enough.

Black mirror indeed. Remind me of that mugen character that froze the screen and a japanese little girl poped up on it lol. Hmm it was a looong time ago...

Curious if people with epilepsy can use VR. I used to get dizzy playing Sonic Rush. This just sounds terrifying.

What the hell is wrong with some people? People like that should go through required therapy and/or be put in a mental health facility, honestly.

Man, this recently happened to Floe from fighting game community where he just was streaming Vr Chat with a friend on twitch, and it came out of nowhere. Images that we're absolutely disgusting keep pouring in with a voice repeating "Fat Fuck" every second.

Shit made me incredibly furious and it still upsets me that Floe had to go through some bullshit like that on what was supposed to be just an easygoing stream for everybody.

That seems like a large flaw with VR, someone can hijack users visuals completely?

Well I'm avoiding VR until they fix this.

It's not a hijack. The model they imported into the game is so massive it obscures everyone's view.

Also it's just VRChat. Plenty of games where this isn't a problem.

It's really just VR chat where it is a possibility due to the open nature of the game.

The Pro of the setup is that I can use my custom made Danny DeVito avatar. The downside is that I'm at risk of what I experienced in the OP lmao

But I've seen if before in Loserfruits stream, they can create an error message that appears directly encompassing the users vision. And if people cant move its still a hijack of some sort.

How do you even get an image of a real rape? Surely that shit is not available on the net, outside of the 'dark net'?

Pretty horrible sounding OP. I'd be avoiding that game then.

...and turn off the VR or the game :D

edit: wait, seriously? Saying to close your eyes and turn off VR is being 'disissive' [whatever that means]? I legit was giving an advice [albeit in a silly manner, but come on...], if I saw vile shit like that this is what I'd do.

edit 2: thank you for removing the warning, next time I'll be more considerate.

Seems like 4chan's /b/ is at it. Mind you I only know of these things from my highschool days, they had days dedicated to posting gifs of people dying. Some fucking morbid shit that for sure made me never to go back.

People are fucking sick

I don't think this has anything to do with VR itself, since it's optional and it would be just as difficult to navigate while just playing the usual way. It's more about how mindlessly open VR Chat is. The developers should really focus on limiting some avatars that break the game as well as optimizing everything.

What is wrong with Bansai comment? I was going to mention the same, and I guess I still am. Obviously the fact that it can happen like that is something the devs have to fix, and there's some merit in talking about people trolling like that. But I don't see how it can't be avoided, doesn't the Steam or Oculus menu work while that's happening? You can then close the game/app from there. And if you can't it should be as easy as removing the headset and force closing the game from the PC.

As I've grown older and experienced loss, and seen some traumatic shit, honestly anytime I get blindsided with an image, video or sound clip of someone dying, being mutilated, in extreme pain, etc. I seriously get anxious and irritable for like 4 hours. Fuck that shit.

So yeah I sympathize.

This is something that will occur when going into rooms filled with randoms. Thankfully you can stay within communities in VRChat and have fun that way. I'm surprised that you haven't joined ERA's discord channel. We are actually planning a Pokémon-themed D&D session in VRChat possibly this weekend.

Definitely reminds me of those old Second Life avatars that would just fire gross pics as particle effects. Hopefully the devs can get the moderation situation figured out.

Had it happen to me. It sucks especially in VR. They are putting in a panic button next patch which should help. Button apparently makes only your friends appear and makes everyone else generic avatar and muted until you toggle panic back off .

What the fuck? So you're telling me that someone could force you to view child porn? If I were you I'd throw that VR headset to the garbage and never look back.

Curious if people with epilepsy can use VR. I used to get dizzy playing Sonic Rush. This just sounds terrifying.

Depends on the severity, triggers and photosensetivity of the individual. My fiance uses my Rift and she has epilepsy. Basically all curated VR has been fine for her other than stuff that would make you extremely dizzy in general like Echo Arena with all axis controls unlocked. She's had no problems in general with VR but she also is prone to light induced seizures if it's flashing a lot. As a result there's no way I'd send her into a public VRChat lobby but she's tried my avatar out in a private room before. She also adores Lucky's Tale. I would highly recommend staying away from VRChat if you suffer from epilepsy though as you will encounter stuff that will trigger most epileptics on a regular basis.

Yes, this exact thing has happened to me. The Panic Button should help, but I'm really hoping for an option to disable custom shaders and/or particle effects on avatars.

I've been playing on a monitor and some people's animations are insane. Yeah you gotta be careful when playing with others.
