I considered making a thread...or a post. In the end I caught a ban lashing out at the people looking forward to not having to read "toxic garbage" threads about "Trump, LGBTQ rights, Kaepernick, Black man shot by cop threads"..the list goes on. I couldn't believe that post was allowed and the amount of people quoting it agreeing with it. Disgusting

It was only a month ban but I wish it was a perma. Either way I won't return.

This also got to me too.

People behaving like 20 out of the 40 threads per page was only Trump and bad policing threads and stating that they're happy if OT never comes back because of it. As if all of OT was Trump and police or something.

Saw one guy call OT "nothing but anti American, anti police whatevers tugging on each others dicks and whining about everything".

Nobody called him out on a single word.

I guess its a similar feeling I had to when Trump won.

That "Oh, so this is what was bubbling underneath all along" type realisation.

I feel like often the underlying motivation is to post their opinions without getting "judged" ?

Seeing what types of disagreement people with backwards opinions seem to like, and dislike; they seem to basically loathe the idea of people "judging them" or seeing them as bad people. To them the sheer fact that you might think badly of them over views they hold, makes them feel like they can't openly hold those opinions, like, it's actually forbidden.


It's kinda like the whole South Park mantra, where the worst thing in the world isn't how bad your opinions are; but simply how much you openly *care*.

I just up and left. I couldn't post a goodbye thread since I was a "parma-junior", and by that point there was no one left that would actually miss me. Seeing as most of the replies to all the other threads were "Well, get out of here then", what was even the point? I didn't dignify it with a proper farewell. My bookmark is gone, I unfollowed the proper Twitter accounts. I did my part. At least NESBot has been switched over to ResetEra so all is right with the world. As soon as I saw Patrick Keplek post a screen recording of his phone where he deleted his home screen bookmark, I knew it was sealed.

Time will tell if GAF just shrivels up and dies. Let's do our best to make this the new place for devs and reviewers to feel safe visiting. The TylerEra is over.

I have monitored the old forum after I heard about the incident, but have not posted. I wanted to a few times, to reply to some of the ridiculous statements like you noted, but I knew I wasn't going to change any minds, so I stopped myself.

The whole situation was nuts, and some posters behaved very poorly. However, I did appreciate the suicide threads people created who actually called out the situation for what it was in a sensible manner without the name calling or resorting to other offensive acts. I appreciated the way they chose to voice their protest.

I doubt I'll ever post on there again, but I didn't see any reason to get my account banned. Nobody cares about me doing that. It also made it easier to get on here, so, I think I made the right decision. Some of the posts were embarrassing. I saw people call those that did the worst of it the "Left Voat" and I found I couldn't really disagree. Let's do better here.

I contemplated making this grand goodbye post but I figured it wouldn't be up long enough for people to read even if I kept it 100% civil. There were problems over there - big problems - and I'd imagine to a lot of people the accusations against Malka were the last straw. It was for me. An account almost 12 years old and 45000+ (iirc) posts strong, and I'd had enough. Enough with the owner, the bans that didn't violate any rules, the double-standards, the hypocrisy, the censorship, everything.
