Like the title says I miss this series so much. I'm happy Kojima is at a better place professionally obviously. But maaaaaan this sucks the MGS series is one of my favorite series in gaming. The characters, the gameplay, the music gahhhh there is so much amazing stuff in this franchise!

Snake-vs-The-Boss-MGS3-Fight.jpg

the legendary final fight against The Boss in MGS3. I tell y'all there aren't many video game final boss fights better than this one.

latest

Liquid fucking Snake existing in this franchise? Need I say more?

And who could forget the machines the whole series is named after! Metal freaking Gear! My god I love these things. Bi-pedal nuclear launchers. Still one of my favorite things in the whole MGS series. Every time they appear Kojima and company always made it feel like these things were metallic monsters. Just absolute beasts created to destroy the world. These are pretty much video game kaiju's in my opinion.

Metal-Gear-Solid-V-The-Phantom-Pain-0007.jpg

Finally who can forget about the Phantom Pain? Was so close to being the best game of the generation. If only Kojima had more time. One of the best controlling and playing games of this gen with an amazing stealth sandbox to play in. It's a shame Ground Zero's had to be taken out of this game and be put out as a standalone product. If Camp Omega got to be included in its original location story wise. my goodness it would have made this game that much better!

Sorry if y'all don't like my ramble filled thread. I've been playing a lot of Death Stranding and even though I am really enjoying it. It just reminds me that we won't ever get another MGS game by Kojima and that the MGS series is probably dead now. Since Konami isn't interested in triple A development anymore. But let's not spend all our time moping! What are your favorite memories from this series? I could include dozens more in this OP alone. But I want to hear from you now, Go let the stories come to life!

Favorite game series of all time and probably the one fandom I'm most in to. I'm kinda glad its over though, I don't need anymore. Just wish MGS4 was a little more accessible to play in 2019.

I'm with you.

It's unfortunate that we haven't seen a return of Splinter Cell in 6-7 years either. Is Hitman the closest/only thing we have? Or am I missing another game?

Fear not. I'm sure Konami is already planning the next game as a pachinko machine.

Such a shame how it ended. If you combined the gameplay of MGSV with the general excellence of MGS3, it would probably be my favorite game ever. They just needed another shot with MGSV gameplay to reach that sort of level.

Real talk, playing DS has made me so nostalgic for this series that I reinstalled all the games and am planning a playthrough.

Except for MGSV. The series ends at 4, IMO.

Me too. I love this series so much.

That's why I would love a remake, of every one of them, even 4 which is still a beautiful game.

I don't, the series peaked with MGS 1-3. In hindsight it should have ended there, you can't just keep going forever. 4, PW and 5 were just horrible.

I'm happy replaying the first 3 games for the rest of time.

I would have loved a reimagining of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. That and a game controlling the boss with the Cobra Unit. Hopefully the PS5 can crack PS3 emulation so we can have all Metal Gear games on one system.

Not much to ask...

My favorite MGS memory is probably the time when I was 16 and MGS3 had just came out and I was staying with some 18+ friends out in Madeira Beach in Florida. They'd invited like ten people over for beer and general debauchery and I was bummed about it because the TV that I was playing the game on was kind of small, kind of quiet, and in the living room where everyone was certain to congregate. I was in the end stretch of the game, too, and I'd really wanted to get as absorbed into the climactic story beats as possible.

...but I had nothing to fear, because when all those beer-toting guys and gals noticed the top-tier cutscenes and tense confrontation with the Shagohod, they all sat down in near-silence and watched me for over an hour until after the credits rolled.

Hopefully Konami can give some other developer worthy of a shot its chance to shine with the series. It'd be a shame for MGS to be relegated to a gambling machine in the future.

As a fan of the series, I feel like it was starting to run on fumes a bit towards the end. They really stretched out the Big Boss prequel storyline out to a ridiculous extent, to the point where it overshadowed Solid Snake it entirely. I think Kojima also disappointingly chased open world trends that went against what makes the MGS series so great (tight level design balanced with story and cutscenes). While it's unfortunate the series had to end on such bad terms, I think some stories are okay closing the book on.

I would have loved full on remakes/reimaginings of the first two Metal Gears though.

After MGSV.... I'm at peace for the series to be put in rest for good, and it's not like Konami is going to make another proper AAA titles on consoles ever again.

Should have ended after Peace Walker. But yeah, a truly great MGS6 skipping the open world shit and reintroducing great level design and boss fights with lots of cutscenes and crazy story would be great.

Death Stranding is just as good though. So there is an adequate follow up IP from Kojima himself.

I love the series but I don't really miss it. I actually wish they had ended the series sooner. MGSV could have been a brand new series and I would have been much happier.

Me too, OP. I wish Konami would get their shit together so I could replay the series. With the current console gen there's some holes.

MG1: Only if you have a PS2 (or BC PS3) via Subsistance
MG2: Only if you have a PS2 (or BC PS3) via Subsistance
MGS: PS1, PS2, PS3, Vita
MGS2: XB1 PS4
MGS3: XB1 PS4
MGS:PW: PS4 (via Now)
MGS4: PS4 (via Now Only)
MGS5: XB1 PS4

Ac!d 1/2: "lol, go fuck yourself" - Konami

I hope Kojima makes another game in the vein of MGSV at some point.

I genuinly adore that games gameplay loop. I also adore Death Strandings loop.

Maybe I just like KojiPros gameplay ideas ...

Honestly, at this point, I would take a remake of MGS 1 or 3.
My god if I could get a Fox engine remake of those 2 games. I'd be set for next gen or current. Absolute classics those two are.

I just want to replay MGS4 in a modern console, dammit. That's all I ask at this point :(
I honestly can't believe that Konami never ported any of the other MGS games to modern consoles after Phantom Pain. They love doing low budget stuff like that now so you'd think this would be right up their alley!

Fear not. I'm sure Konami is already planning the next game as a pachinko machine.
Ugh someone post the MGS 3 pachinko machine so we can all look on in disappointment again.

Hey man you forgot Portable Ops on the PSP! A game so vile it's one of the only games in the series to be made non canon lol.

I would have loved a reimagining of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. That and a game controlling the boss with the Cobra Unit. Hopefully the PS5 can crack PS3 emulation so we can have all Metal Gear games on one system.

Honestly this is what killed me about MGSV. I thought it was clearly setting up MG 1 and 2 remakes as dlc for the game since we got that close in the time line. But sadly that never happened.

Metal Gear Solid on the Game Boy Color is the secret best Metal Gear game.
Ghost Babel is the MG game that proves that MG can be done without Kojima. God how I love it

It's my favorite series by a long shot. Solid Snake is an insanely great character. For all its crazy faults, it was narratively the only auteur game series and that made even the nonsense pretty fun - because it had a voice. No committee would green light some of that crazy shit pulled.

I don't.

It's my favourite series.... but MGS4 was the perfect ending to the series.
And although I want to replay it again, I definitely don't want any more games in the series.

I really hated MGSV, it should've just been a new IP. It added nothing of interest to the series except add even more plot holes.

Didn't Naughty Dog say they had an extremely difficult time porting TLoU to PS4 because the PS3 code was just so radically different from a PS4 game? I doubt it's a low budget affair to port a PS3 exclusive.

I don't, and MGS2 is my GOAT with MGS1 in the top 5.

Peace Walker and MGSV left a bad taste in my mouth and ultimately added nothing to the series as a whole. I'm happy for it to rest in peace as the story is pretty much wrapped up.

i'm glad kojima can do things other than death stranding, imagine a stephen spielberg who never got to make jurassic park because he had to make indiana jones forever

I wouldn't mind a remake of MG1 and MG2. Maybe clean up a few elements of the story / presentation to fit in more nicely with the rest of the series (namely MGSV), but keep the same style of gameplay.

I love a Boss prequel by Platinum games, fighting nazis with a bit of the style of inglorious basterds and indiana jones. I know it might take away from her mystique but there's potentially a great game there. The scene being the boss having to give birth on the battle field, holy shit.

I've made my peace with the series being dead as far as new games/remakes go, but I really hope Konami will be willing to port the HD collection to PS4/5 or PC. MGS is one of the few series where I regularly go back and replay the games, and as a PS4/PC owner I currently have no good way to do so.

Also, if they do they need to include MGS1 in the package (easy) and MGS4 (much more difficult).

Seriously.

Hope Kojima has got DS out of his system now, and goes back to owning the stealth genre.

Nah, that'd be a waste of his talents imo.

MGS is done. Why try to recapture lighting in the bottle? Any stealth game he makes will seem like a poor-mans MGS.
He's done stealth games for far too long. There's nothing much for him to do in that space anymore.

Let him flex his creative muscle on genres he's never worked on.

MGS endend and that's fine. What Konami needs to do is a mega pack with all the games for current and next-gen. MGS is Kojima, and I'm glad that he's now can do other stuff.
