I do have a Herman Miller (forgot the model) at the office and a Secretlab Titan at home, I do like the Titan honestly, always felt good, wouldn't say it's better or worse but never felt like it was a bad "gaming chair". Might fall more into your budget.

While it's always good to alternate, I don't see the point of getting a whoopee cushion when you can just stand up instead...

Sit for 40 mins, stand for 40 mins, if you can. Don't get a gymball either, not even for alternating. Your body needs back support and gymballs WILL harm you if used as a chair.

Sitting will never be "active", even if some solutions can help stimulate blood flow; proper support will be more important regardless of what marketing says. You should always ALWAYS prioritise not sitting when you can. It will help you and it costs NOTHING.

Not everyone has a standing desk or can get one.
A standing desk is also weird for gaming.

I have experience with Steelcase Amia, Gesture, and Leap V2. All of them were pretty comfortable but the GOAT is Leap V2 IMO. The Gesture does almost everything better than Leap V2 except reclining, on the Leap V2 when you lean back it adjusts the seat to move out creating a more comfortable position when sitting while reclined. The Gesture doesn't do this and it's baffling why they took that functionality out.

Ikea Markus has been good for me a few year as. But I'm a skinny guy and don't spend crazy hours in it, even when working from home as I probably get up and walk around, use the bathroom at least once an hour. Also don't have any existing back or other pain issues, nor do any PC gaming at my desk so that cuts down on time in the chair. My chair in my office is nicer, but I'm not sure the brand—it's not a Herman Miller, Steelcase or anything super expensive though.

But I agree with others who say get some recommendations and go sit on several chairs before buying anything, especially if you are regularly spending 8+ hours in it. Everyone's body is different and everyone has different preferences. Some of the expensive chairs with a lot of adjustment options are going to work for most people, but none will work for everyone.

Wish I could try on of those Herman Miller chairs. I have pains in my coccyx area and I always have to sit awkwardly to manage.

Can you remove the armrests on those high end chairs ? I like to sit cross legged, and I also play the guitar while sitting on front of my PC.

Hey all

I bought some games off the recent Steam summer sale, problem is my current desk chair makes me want to get off my chair after an hour which sucks because I never get around to gaming before I get tired of it. I have chronic back pain too so sitting to play is more of a challenge than it should be.

I need a new chair but I have no idea what to go for. I'm willing to pay more for comfort but would like to pay as little as possible if I can.

I have a SecretLab Titan, while I don't work at home, I have sat in the thing for 4-5 hours at a time and never felt any sort of discomfort, would recommend it.

I'm looking at the Titan and Titan XL right now. I'm 6'5 and 286 pounds. I'm basically right on the border weight wise of both chairs and don't know which one to go for. I think the regular Titan might be best for me, I'm much more vertical than wide.

I bought a 20 year old Steelcase leap V1 high back for $225 off facebook market place locally. Originally a $1000+ chair. These chairs are insanely well built.

Then I sent the cushions to Crandell and had them re-upholster it. The fabric on the chair when I got it was perfectly fine and still in great shape but it was a horrible color and Crandell was able to use a custom fabric from their supplier.

I went to their supplier's website and ordered some free samples and sent the sales lady the code of the fabric I wanted and they made it happen and also put new foam in the seat. Total for the custom fabric job was $160.

Here's before and after.

I also bought a Humanscale Freedom for my home office and it is COMPLETELY different but also extremely well built and comfortable. I paid $1150 for that but it's EXACTLY what I wanted for leaning back and gaming with proper headrest support.

I love my Aeron but it's no good for sitting I've cross legged. It's a mesh seat with a hard plastic frame and sitting that way can pinch ankles. Complaints that this chair is only comfortable if you sit in it correctly are spot on. I like that's because it reinforces good posture, which has eliminated back pain for me. But it's not for everyone, and I'd recommend testing it out before dropping this kinda dime.

Where do you find cheap Herman Miller chairs in central Alberta? I rarely ever see them being sold and when I do it's usually the same pecker reselling at 3/4 price because he wiped it down and claims that's refurbishing to like new status.

To be honest, it's worth the money to invest in a good task chair. One of the best investments I've made. I can sit in this thing all day without issues.

There's a good chance you can find local offices near you selling Herman Miller/Stealcase chairs at a discount due to closures and what not.
This is the answer.

I should get a new chair. The biggest thing is getting up and moving around. Set yourself timers to move around, do squats in the kitchen, stretch your arms and touch your toes. Sitting even on a 1,000 dollar chair only goes so far compared to moving and stretching. But I do agree on being ergonomic when you do sit.

Got one of those secret lab chairs coming. Hoping it works out after many recommendations from friends.

Have to wait a while for one to ship though

Gamers nexus did a non scientific test for gaming/office chairs. Pretty good if entertaining video. In the end they all went with the office chairs as being superior.

I have a Herman Miller Sayl chair that i purchased and a aeron that work gave me to work from home. Both are great but the Aeron is superior to the lower priced sayl. It's also worth noting that we have a regular ergonomics specialist come around our office monthly to make ajdustments to our office furniture. I just cant fathom working in a gaming chair that push your shoulders forward.

Same. We don't need adjustability other than height and the mesh is nice. Bought it in canyon red since the authorized dealer discount was more than we expected and we think it looks great.

Steelcase Gesture. The arm rests alone are out of this world.

Ya I used to work at a place with these in the conference room. Everyone kept fucking with the arms during meetings; they're fantastic chairs.

If possible, try to test out as many chairs as possible. I find that everyone has different tastes.

Personally, I blind bought the Secret Lab Titan and it's been one of my best purchases. Extremely comfortable chair that I sit in for 10+ hours a day with no issues. Also, seems to be very sturdy. Also, cheap if you can buy it on sale and it comes in a fabric option (which I love).

I've used the Aeron (version 1 i think) and currently use the Embody. They did both help make back pain and a pain in my left thigh/buttcheek disappear, however they aren't without flaws. The Aeron has a hard plastic shell around the entire body so if you lean back at all, you're digging hard plastic into your neck or spine. The Embody seems to help generate a ton of static electricity during the dry colder months of the year. like, distracting amount of shocks. In my case on carpet or hardwood. Wouldn't mind a little headrest support on any future chair I buy either because these 2 don't have it.

Dude there has NEVER been a better time to buy a second hand office chair.

I just got a Steelcase Leap Worklounge for $250 and that's a $3000 office chair.

buy a secret lab and a herman miller, tape them back to back and you're set. Rotate depending on need.

Are any of the chair mentioned approved for gamer sized portions? My meaty thighs are hurting looking at the width of these chairs.

Invested in a £1200 Herman Miller chair, never looked back. It's superb for long hours next to your desk.

I was literally looking for a work from home/gaming chair this past week and ended up ordering a refurbished Herman Miller Mirra 2. I've been using my office chair from work at home for the last year and need to return it soon, and wanted to get a solid upgrade that will help w back pain I've been having and last for a long time. I can't speak for the chair yet as it's being shipped (couldn't find decent used prices locally), but I'm looking forward to sitting in it!

this is coming from someone who always skimped on chairs and got whatever was cheap at Office Depot. I'm really looking forward to the upgrade.

Just picked up a Steelcase Leap V2 for $300. Used of course, but it seems to be in really great condition going by the usual wear areas.

It seems pretty comfy, but I don't really have experience with using a chair that has this many different adjustments. Anyone have some quick tips for setting it up properly?

Yes at least on most of them I believe, they might be a little involved like taking of the back first but tis definitely possible, they are designed to be fully repairable

I bought a Sayl sight unseen because I couldn't afford a Aeron or embody like a year ago and honestly I wasn't a huge fan, at least for my body I was a bit uncomfortable but I couldn't return it where I bought it which sucked lol I gave it to my mother for her job since she liked it, I've using a random cheap chair and placed an order for Aeron a few days ago, cost me my left leg but at least my right leg should be comfortable now. Cant wait for it to arrive though every time I think about the cost my brain says it was to expensive.

Just to bump an older thread.

30 years old. 5'7.

I've basically had chronic neck/back pain for years due to being poor and not buying a new mattress/new chair. I'm moderately active and have been doing more stretches during the day.

Breaking point came when I tried to play FF14 over the weekend at my computer and couldn't last more than a half hour at my desk due to my neck pain. Noticed it became a pattern over the past few months where I'd basically not use my PC over the weekend due to neck/back pain. Sometimes I'd just lay in bed for the weekend to recover from working at my PC all day.

My chair is fine but it was a staples chair that retails for $299 today that I got new for $129 in 2018. A lot of hard miles on this chair.

Upon looking for a new chair I looked up every option. At my previous job in 2016/2017 we used Millers almost exclusively. Didn't enjoy it and had a lot of lower back pain. Ruled out the Herman Miller although the Logitech one looks sexy.

My needs:

-Allow me to sit cross legged when I want or under one leg
-I'd like to play guitar in my chair with ease
-Recline. Basically let me relax and watch/play games.

I ended up landing on the Steelcase Gesture with a headrest. It's pricey for sure. I considered the Leap v2 but the headrest looked like an afterthought/uncomfortable. That and while lowering the arms to play guitar is awesome - the Gesture gives me more options. It looks like reclining might be better on the Leap V2 with how the seat moves with you but I can't be too fused about losing that.

Have to make it official/get the paperwork done and get it shipped. But hopefully this makes me a happier camper pain wise.

I've got no idea what to do regarding office chairs, but I'm going to buy a used Leap V2 this week. I gotta replace my old chair and people seem pretty positive on that model.

I just pushed the button for an Aeron yesterday. Something I should have done years ago. I have one at work, been using it 10 years, good as the day I first sat on it. During that time I've gone through like 5 100-200 dollar chairs at home, and they've always been less comfortable.

Even so, that price made it really hard to take the plunge. Now to wait about a month :(

I've been using an Aeron for about 2 months now. I have intermittent back problems and so far the thing really does seem to be keeping my back good.
