I wanted to order a medium pizza from Domino's, and they told me that they ran out of medium ones...

I usually buy pizzas from local smaller places, but we were in a rush. We just came to the mall to buy a toy for a birthday tomorrow, and we wanted something quick to take out to our home.

Domino's is the only pizza place here in the mall (fold court). We just wanted a medium size, but they told us that they ran out of medium ones. WTF! I ask them how is that possible. They told me that they dough comes pre-measured, and they couldn't just take the dough of a large one to make a medium.

Unbelievable.

Now I'm waiting for my large pizza to be ready.

Kinda makes sense...this is a big chain we're talking about.

The worst was when I went to a Bertucci's, sat down to eat, and this fool told me they couldn't do half toppings on a small pizza

I'm like "I don't care, just charge me as if I got toppings on the whole thing but just put it on half"

They're like "Sorry, we can't do half"

Me: oh for fuck's sake

I’ve had that happen from other places and they’ll just give a bigger size for the same price.

What exactly is the issue? This happens. This is such a minor inconvenience for you.

They even gave you the reason.

Don't worry given how small their pizzas usually are it'll be like you got a medium one anyway!

I mean the dough does come pre-measured. They don’t train you to try to pare it down. If anything, if they tried, you’d probably just get a fucked up medium and also be upset.

You'll be happy after you've had your pizza. If you'd got the medium like you thought you wanted you'd find yourself wishing you'd got a large instead soon enough.

I mean if they took a medium sized amount of dough out of the large they'd be left with very little. More work for less profit for them. It seems logical to me.

A couple months back I went to BK to get a burger and just after the guy in front of me ordered everyone heard a guy yell from the back "that was the last burger". That kinda sucked.

lol I mean that does suck, but in a "shit happens" kind of way that's funny

Same with this, all you can do is laugh and sigh and move on. Funny story for the future.

yup, the dough can't be used when it's first delivered as well, it has to proof for a day or two or it won't bake correctly. if your dominos is high volume, it probably goes through several trucks a week so everything's actually pretty fresh

Not as disappointing as that one morning I decided "Fuck it" and went to Krispy Kreme and was greeted with a "we're out of glazed doughnuts" at the drive thru

Domino's sells pizza's in 10" (small), 12" (medium), 14" (large), and 16" (extra large). Those are pretty standard pizza sizes.

As for them running out of mediums. It happens. Pizza dough needs to be prepped in advance (regardless of whether it is a chain or your fav local spot) and they have to do their best to estimate the amount they will need for a given day based on past sales so that they both have enough to cover the demand but also not lose too much to the trash bin.

If they were a good store with a good manager then they should have offered the large but charged you for a medium.

This might be more impressive than when the Panera local to my office ran out of plain bagels on a Wednesday morning and couldn't fulfill the order I made for my department.

You should get the large at the cost of a medium if that happens iirc

to be fair their coupons make it cheaper to buy 1 large versus 1 medium its only savings when you buy 2 mediums but i mean they have their guidelines you kinda cannot get mad at them for following what their job tells them they have to do.

I worked at a dominos esque place, if they do make their own dough, you have to let the pizza dough sit in a fridge for a day or two. You cant just make new dough on the spot

Reminds me of the time I went to a Subway, and they told me they were out of bread. I was like, why the fuck are you still open then? It was around lunch time too. lol
