If OP doesn't come back and clear some things up soon, I'm gonna start to think maybe he IS an ass O:
Doctors hate it.
So instead of learning from the experience as well as not listening to your coworker you did something that you admit didn't turn out the way it should... it only probably turned out fine (that shouldn't be something you are ok with when it comes to treating people that it maybe turned out fine but sounds like you know it could not have). And at worst some one had to be poked again... as some one who is phobic of needles that sounds incredibly flippant (oh well, patient had to get another poke, it's fine and I shouldn't have to be criticized. If I had to be restuck with a needle by some one and learned that was his attitude you bet your ass I'd be complaining to your managers. It's one thing to make a mistake, but to be flippant about it and act like you don't even care how your patient feels about it... ).The incident was me not knowing any better. She tried to go out of her way but I didn’t listen to her. But honestly it probably turned out fine the way I did it. At worst a patient had to get poked again. But yeah, I probably should have known better honestly. When she addressed me she never even gave me a chance to say anything, yelled at me and called me an ass. I didn’t say anything other than trying to explain myself but I kept calm and left.
I worked in the medical IT field for yeeeeaaaars and even when it came to getting their tablets or CIM setups running smoothly and keeping EPIC and the rest of the EMR accessible with little downtime - we were constantly told that our actions had direct consequences to peoples attitudes, experience and health. Like.. you work in a hospital or a clinic or whatever and you're gonna say "Eh if i really did mess up the only thing it might do is make someone who has potentially already gone through days or weeks of rough procedures and almost definitely bad/tough news and decision making. They are trying to get what little bit of peace inside sleep as they can and because this ASSHOLE can't listen to someone who he admits knows more than he does - that little bit of peace and rest is interrupted. For what? And at worst some one had to be poked again... as some one who is phobic of needles that sounds incredibly flippant (oh well, patient had to get another poke, it's fine and I shouldn't have to be criticized. Dat assJeez, how did this thread get over 300 posts without op giving any new substantial information.
oh my god you've cracked the code, this is scrubs if it starred the cast of evangelion
There seems to be an ongoing conflict with Morrison and this co-worker, and it's possible that she truly is in the wrong somehow... But, Morrison has done a fairly terrible job at demonstrating that. It has been made all the more confusing due to Morrison's admittance that he is largely to blame in every occurrence. What is apparent, however, is that Morrison once yelled at this woman because she was conflicting with his possible 15-minute break while she herself was busy with her own work--which, while understandably frustrating, does seem a bit... "eck" in a medical professional. Especially one dealing with newborns.
So...
1) You don't respect her, despite her seniority and knowledge which you describe as being greater than your own
2) She knows you don't respect her and it bothers her
3) You snapped at her and made it awkward in the past between you
4) You fucked something up while ignoring her telling you how to not fuck it up, basically disrespecting her completely and causing an issue for a patient in the process
5) She called you an ass
6) You think the problem is she called you an ass?
OP, I'm not trying to pile on or be mean but can you please check yourself over how you feel about sticking patients. If you take anything constructive from this thread, do not be flippant about it.
My mom has cried over having to be stuck more than once. One particular time, they were having a hard time finding her vein and she had a horrible experience having to be stuck 4 times. Now this is a persistent fear of hers that stresses her out every time she has to get blood drawn. After that, there was one time where she debated even going to the hospital when she was sick because she didn't want to experience what happened to her last time. As a low income person, she has also visited non-profit hospitals and she has said to me that she feels like staff don't care about poor people and they don't care about black people. I'm aware of studies that suggest the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the patients that you see have similar feelings. And posts like yours speak to why.
Not everyone handles needles or pain well. It can ruin someones day and even hinder them seeking care if they feel the staff in charge of taking care of them is flippant or apathetic about their care. Put whatever bullshit you have with your coworker aside when it comes to patient health.
Will Morrison71 provide us with more details? Will this thread stay unlocked long enough for me to actually post one of these things? Will somebody else get called an... "a"-word?
GLORIOUS!!! :)

Yes, at long last, for those of you just joining us...
Our story began with our OP Morrison71 regaling everyone with a tail of workplace strife.
Morrison's post was very lacking in detail, and teetered more towards the stream of consciousness style of posting. All we really knew was that Morrison ignored some instructions from a senior co-worker, a poor patient wound up being stuck with a needle more than they needed to, co-worker called Morrison71 an insult, he doesn't know how to deal with it, and curse words are a big no-no and will most certainly result in a timeout. It's even more confounding because Morrison seems to... agree with this person? Yet is still angry about it, because... cussing? It was all very muddled at the moment.
He posted a couple more times, but only added to confusion by defending his abilities in the workplace and not actually addressing the specifics of this dramatic event. Many posters were annoyed, but, unfortunately, Morrison has yet to return and clarify the story with any helpful details. He's no doubt busy informing his supervisors that this woman called him an... Well... She called him an... [whipser]A-S-S.[/whisper]... Please don't tell on me. I can't go back to prison.
The only real additional info came when those daring GA--.... Era...Detectives found another post of him complaining about likely the same co-worker as well as one where he made some less-than-ideal statements about the medical field in which he works.

Normally, I'd wait until a new page, but this is the third time I've started one of these things and had the thread locked before I could post it, so...
This line really highlights your lack of empathy which is is vital in your line of work. Perhaps you should look into another line of work because if you keep carry on behaving the way you do, you're gonna get fired. But honestly it probably turned out fine the way I did it. At worst a patient had to get poked again.
Imagine a world where calling your horrible co-worker an "ass" is an "outburst".
Wow, fuck this dude.I do directly work with patients. Lab techs aren’t just in the background. And we can fuck up a diagnose bad. Edit=. I’m a professional and want to give accurate results.
YEEEEEEES!!! I’ve missed these!!!!

My sister works in the NHS as a lab assistant in various departments. She told me about an incident today from a person who's been in the job for 15 years, but their minor bout of laziness had to lead to a blood sample being discarded from testing and the patient would have to have the blood taken again. All she had to do was write a patient's details on a test tube so it could be matched up with the patient's info on the sticker on her sample. That was it. Rather than do that she decided to take the sticker off the sample - so no info was on it - and put that on the test tube. She then went to lunch and didn't bother telling anyone. My sister had no choice but to mark it as a problem because, while it's 99% certain that they belonged together, that 1% chance could lead to a misdiagnosis, or a patient being put on medication that could harm them. She then decided to cop an attitude with my sister, saying that it better not be marked down as an incident against her...all because she was too fucking lazy to do her job properly after 15 years when my sister, who's only been on the job for 5 months, knows this shit better than her.I worked in the medical IT field for yeeeeaaaars and even when it came to getting their tablets or CIM setups running smoothly and keeping EPIC and the rest of the EMR accessible with little downtime - we were constantly told that our actions had direct consequences to peoples attitudes, experience and health. For nothing cept this dudes ego or whatever. I'm surprised he hasn't been pulled aside by a team leader or supervisor at this point and straight up told off. This kinda shit would not fly in my hospital.
You're off team bucket snitch. You're probably aware, but hospitals have a disproportionate amount of workplace violence compared to most other places of work, which is why they usually have annual training about it and very strict policies regarding behavior and reporting behavior. If you're in the same shoes as me (healthcare IT, but we all have the same training and policies) you're required to report her outburst.

I'm just trying to stop someone from possibly taking a syringe in the neck.
Holy shit, you called him an asshole in that thread.
I thought you were sneakily trying to get him disciplined tbh.I'm just trying to stop someone from possibly taking a syringe in the neck.
Yeah because that’s what’s going to happen here.I'm just trying to stop someone from possibly taking a syringe in the neck.
Because your assumption is that the other person is unreasonable, and they're at fault, since the OPs story is completely credible, fully detailed, and clearly shows she's at fault, and not the OP since, he's just so credible.I'm just trying to stop someone from possibly taking a syringe in the neck.
You made my night.
I can already see OPs next thread:I'm just trying to stop someone from possibly taking a syringe in the neck.
I volunteer as tribute. I'll be the ass man.
