Yeah it looks bad. All of it has looked bad.

Me and the wife watched the Bluray the other night. movie still kicks all kinds of ass.

I can see how the director had a tough job, but I think he just needed the actors to actually look like they are having fun. Everything is so flat feeling.

I honestly don't think Disney cares. They know it will sell on name and the reboot or sequel will sell too.

As a non-american the singing sounds just as bad(or good) as the original. Definitely not the reason the original felt so strong.

Probably should've double checked that Will Smith could still sing before casting him

I hear the autotune from Beauty and the Beast is back, and I see some really boring choreography that strips a lot of the magic from the original. Eh.

I swear, once something gets on the ERA hate train there is no getting off.
The piece looks unoffensive and the TV spot posted above looks good.

With every new tv spot the movie looks better and better tbh. I like the in camera Bollywood vibe of their dance numbers. The vitriol this movie is getting seems a bit overblown.

That looks better but also it's a trailer and not a single scene.

The TV spot works because it uses fun music instead of the stupid "epic" music the main trailers use.

"unoffensive" seems like a prettied up way of saying "does not make me at all want to go out and see the movie," which is about the worst thing you can say about a new Disney ALADDIN movie.

It's not for us old bastards anymore, they want kids. Dunno if they'll get them though.
I don't understand these statements

Either kids already care about Aladdin or they don't.

Either they've seen the original or they haven't.

If they have seen it, this remake looks weird.

If they haven't, then they have no reason to care about Aladdin in the first place.

Dumbo 2019 underperformed. Detective Pikachu is underpermorming. Why should this do better?

Ohhh, wait..... because parents remember watching Aladdin as kids and if there's one thing we know parents love, it's forcing their children to relive their fond childhood memories of media that was important to said parents.

So, I say to you, this is aimed at us old bastards.

It looks fairly inoffensive, and the most recent trailers and TV spots look pretty good, so I'm going to prop this particular number up as a dud and wait to see how the rest turns out. Plenty of movies have had bad clips released for a film that ultimately turns out alright.

Reason to believe IGN clip is worse than final release will be

What is up with IGN exclusive clips being awful?

Not that I expect it to be dramatically better in the movie itself but I'm pretty sure their exclusive clip of Venom was edited differently from the movie.

The camera is just so damn static in every single one of these live action versions. There's just no sense of energy.
It's what I noticed in the BATB remake's musical numbers, which was odd given the director came from doing musicals. The shooting and choreography were all quite dull and static (the opening number Belle in the town was the worst for it, people just sort of shuffling around, at odds with the energetic song). The costumes and scenery were nice, but shot so lifelessly, it doesn't matter.

There is no "ERA hate train." A majority of people feel one way. You and others feel another way.

There is always an ERA hate train. People did the same thing with Venom despite it being a fairly average movie that performed very well at the box office. People tend to go all in on the hyperbole every time in both directions, Detective Pikachu is an example of that as well.
The TV spot works because it uses fun music instead of the stupid "epic" music the main trailers use.

Sorry, inoffensive but what I mean is that sure it doesn't scream "I MUST GO SEE THIS" but also doesn't scream "THIS IS AWFUL". The trailer posted above looks way better and makes me want to actually see the film.

Yeesh, that sounds like a live concert where the singer was sick. Disappointingly flat. Who thought it would be a good idea for Will to sing??

I haven't seen the original in over 20 years and don't remember any of it. The animated Prince Ali posted in this thread is completely new to me.
The live action version has barely any charisma or energy of the animated one. It looks like a cheap straight to dvd film.

I'd imagine they're saving the best bits for the movie, though seeing all the clips and trailers still gives me the impressions that the sets are too small and lit/shot in ways that make them look like just that -- small sets.

Why does everything look so washed out in the outdoor scenes?

This thread is ERA in a nutshell, completely over-reactionary to something that's pretty inoffensive in regards to its quality. You guys are acting like this is the worst thing you've ever seen when it's not even close to being that bad.

Bland and inoffensive with loads of autotune... Well that'll do well with the mainstream then.

Looked bland to me. Not bad, but it lacked all the energy and high notes that made you want to sing along to the original.

Honestly lack of energy is how I would describe all these live action remakes. They're serviceable at best but are just pale imitations at the end of the day.

I'm so back and forth with this movie every time they release some shite teasers they release one that's actually good

It's a fucking remake of a movie that people generally consider to be Disney at its peak. "Pretty inoffensive" goes beyond damning it with faint praise to revealing the film to be a milquetoast cash grab by a company that seeks to own literally all the creative works in the world for the sake of reselling them for greater profits.

This is sad to watch. Aladdin is my third favorite Disney movie. I have a ticket for next Thursday, but I feel like cancelling now.

Mark my words. This same shit is going to happen to the lion king. There's a reason why we haven't seen much other than mostly James earl jones talking. People are oohing and ahhing how it looks and sounds.

Yes the film's soundtrack by hans zimmer will be incredible, but I think the soul and good acting will be missing from the film.

Ok this is better!

This makes it look like Friend like Me will be a great sequence, but that just makes it all the more baffling why Prince Ali ISN'T. They should both be over the top spectacle filled with magic. The rest of the movie may very well be good, but what they are showing of Prince Ali in the OP's clip is not. It's completely bland and lifeless compared to both the animated and broadway versions.

It looks like a Family channel movie tbh. Will Smith was ok I guess but everything around him looked really cheap. It looked a studio set not a location set.

This looks like the porn parody version.

Oh man, they're gonna eventually make one aren't they?

Seriously they can't animate Will Smith's character zooming around making parody and hyping the audience with comedy and splendor?

Any joy from the original is just not in this movie.

It's incredible how Disney takes all of their animated movies and strips them of all life and energy for their live action remakes. Everything is so flat, low energy, and static.

It'll make a ton of money, and then everyone will forget it was ever made within a year.

Wow that looks genuinely horrendously boring.

There is no energy in the performances except for Will Smith. Everyone else seems to have no personality of energy.

This looks poor real poor.

It by no means look bad but none of the Disney remakes so far look on par with their originals, let alone doing much of anything different or better. They're cash grabs in every meaning of the word, despite the amount of budget and time going into them

At first I thought it was bad. Went back and listened to the original... ok, it definitely sounded better in my memory than it really actually does. Came back and listened to this one again, and it sounded better given the added perspective.

There are directors out there with a taste for the visual that could've made this film pop.

Instead, Disney hired Guy Ritchie...

yeah the guy responsible for Snatch, Sherlock Holmes (especially game of shadows), Man From Uncle ... truly a terrible choice

This version is pretty fine, also the last last clip looks good (On Fire)
