Titillation, like most fan service in Japanese games. It's nothing novel or shocking to that audience. It's only the western audience that does mental cartwheels about it.

This is all off-topic though since this isn't a thread about Xenoblade 2.

What makes Japan 'the best' on this issue compared to the West's approach? You're being vague, and last I've read Japan's still has some surprisingly dated views about women despite being a first world nation.

Era always gonna find a way to bring up Xenoblade 2 and how the game is filth.

It surely lead to nobody buying the game like predicted in this bubble here last year.
Nah it's 2018 don't you know? Apparently there was a ruling that these characters aren't allowed to exist.

Hopefully I can get XB2 this month. Looks really fun.
Who predicted that.

Show me one post.

You definitely had people saying that it would affect sales but I wouldn't know wear to start digging to find them.

I don't think Cindy is bad at all. She is barely in the game anyway. What I really love about her character is while she might have a sexualized look in the game she is completely oblivious to sexual advances made by the characters.

not one poster here said anything about sales or the quality of the game.. it's irrelevant to the topic.
Isn't discussing a completely unrelated game also irrelevant to the topic?...

If I'm not mistaken, the thread starter asked how do we all cope or deal with playing FFXV around others, not for random posters to show him more of the very thing that apparently makes his gf side-eye him in disgust...

God forbid he have to explain ResetEra to her as well...

I never said it was "the best" so I'm not sure why you're quoting me as saying such. There's no denying that Japan has these representational problems but it's not going to be video game discourse about boobs that solve the problem.

(first of all: sorry for my poor english)

So, Is there a mod for Cid Sophiar, the FFXV Master Mechanic where she can use a proper mechani clothes?

Because every time this character appears I don't know how to explain to my girlfriend the reason she is wearing those clothes.

I'm not puritanist and I trully believe that sexuality is a natural thing etc etc etc

But THAT character is ridiculous. There's just no reason at all for this kind of stuff in 2018. There's no reason at all for her to wear those clothes.

Anyway, is there a mod to add some proper mechanic clothes to her, so I can play my videogame without the guilty of doing something that helps the the world to keep viewing woman as some sexual object that exists only to give men pleasure?

You're gonna have a rougher time with Arenea my dude.

Haha...ah...no she's not.

She just doesn't care.

Op already admitted he has an issue with it and not her. It opened the thread to discussion about similar designs in other games.

His girlfriend would probably have more of a problem being used as thread fodder than anything else.

If you find the character ridiculous tell your gf that. She'll probably agree as well.

Does anyone have to ask their GF why that teenage werewolf has his shirt off? Or do we all already understand?

In which case I don't think we need to treat women like they're a rose in a glass case- this isn't one of your Japanese Anime where every girl is pure-pure.

I mean, OP derailed the thread himself by basically admitting "this isn't a girlfriend thing, this is a me thing".

Thread is basically "Cidney's design makes me feel uncomfortable." Which kinda opened the floodgates for people to air their grievances on sexualized characters

Sounds like your objections to the character doesn't have anything to do with your girlfriend OP and you'd have an issue with Cindy regardless of whether she is around when you play or not. So why even bring her up. Shes not a tool to justify your personal views or make them more sympathetic or something.

It felt good seeing that million seller announcement.
Shipped, not sold.

I don't know why that game gets a pass, but that difference will be brought up for every other game.

As for Cidney. Whatever, I've seen women wear less in real life. Is it a fan service design, sure. It's overly chessecakey. In a game where most of the characters are sexualized anyway.

The "girlfriend, wife" etc. excuse is just an easy way to make it seem like it's not the thread creator's personal sexual hang-ups that are the problem, yes.

The people who bang on about sex in games [...] obviously don't know shit at this point.
We obviously define "sex" differently. I was embarrassed by that stupid character design myself and tried to avoid the garage whenever my wife is in the room, but I had a nice laugh with her at the Witcher 3's Unicorn scene.

I think it's more likely that the people who don't have these hang ups are generally alone when they play games.

I absolutely got the judgement eye when my wife walked into the room during the Bayonetta intro. It's a legit issue. Not everyone is a basement dweller with a body pillow collection. Some of us interact with other people while we play video games.

so am I missing something, or are we now actually at the point of being embarrassed by THIS in video games?

Actually asking, or am I missing something that happens in the game?

Do you think there's a reason for a mechanic to dress like that other than titilate dudes?

I mean, Cindy's porn parody is more clothed than her game version. That's when you know you fucked up.

Nope that's about the extent of it .. unless you go out of your way to find things on go... bing .. you won't find anything worse than that in the actual game itself. Well .. maybe the character's southern accent and terrible script.

She still has some problems with her design ( huge cleavage for no reason on armor) but it's really not comparable to the shitshow that is Cindy. And atleast she's a good character.
Eh...the pole dancing attacks are, in a lot of ways, more egregious than Cindy.

At least they cut that down in the cutscenes. There was a point before the game came out where it seemed she was just an Ivy type, sadomasochist with a sexual proclivity for hurting people in sexy ways. Thankfully that's basically removed in the final version.

It's sort of the sad thing about FF15 and a lot of fanservice in japanese games enmasse. The characters they're attached to are generally fine, but it's as if there's a mindset that says, "if we don't have them being super sexy or wearing something super skimpy, they'll lose interest with the character." As if the merits of the character aren't enough on their own. It's kind of sad, it feels like they don't have faith in their female characters and mask it with often times meaningless sexualization or titillation.

Considering she works in a desert i'm surprised she isn't showing more skin tbh. I see girls in my area showing off more in winter.

I mean... I am pretty nonchalant about most of this sexuality stuff... but I'd think it would be a rare woman to not say something about Bayonetta. Which is obviously a point of the game/character itself. Sort of apple to oranges though.

I have a significant other who has no problem with what I play or not because we are adults comfortable with our sexuality and don't pointlessly connect the media we consume with our relationship. Jumping to tired insults and assumptions is not helping your case.

Like this is what we draw the line at? Unless you are ogling her the whole time, just move on to any other part of the game.

Lol is that how it works? They asked for a mod that makes Cindy more sensible to him personally, I haven't seen that being discussed yet...

Whether his girlfriend finds an issue with or not isn't even the meat of the original post, considering the OP specifically said he or she would PERSONALLY have a problem explaining it to her...

And was immediately met with responses that in no way or shape answer the question being asked...
