Depends on the definition of public I suppose.
But in OP's case I think the he's well within his rights to play any music he likes since it's not specifically a family/kids designated space.

Dude's unnecessarily being a fucking ass though, no arguing that.

There is zero excuse to ever play music over speakers in public unless it's a busker or something.

Same goes with calls on speakerphone while wandering around a store. I don't need to hear your conversation. Why are you such an inconsiderate piece of garbage?

As soon as i read "loud music" I knew that I had a good chance at guessing the genre it would be.

Some people are inconsiderate assholes.

Not gonna lie, I remember riding around in my moms car blasting the latest rap mixtape or album when I was in HS around 2004-2006. Half of the fun of getting "that new jeezy" was turning up the bass, rattling the speakers and bobbing your head as you drove by folks. I remember that summer of 05 when Thug Motivation dropped, and every other car rolling down the street you heard "yeaaaaaaaaaaah"

This was in the hood, though, so everyone was doing it, damn near competing with each other. I'm not sure why other than it was a fun way to test out how hard the music went.

Portable bluetooth speakers are quite possibly the worst invention ever made. There is no legitimate purpose for it. If you need a speaker at home you are probably close to an outlet, if you are using one outside then you should be using headphones.

I absolutely loathe assholes who strap that shit to their backpacks especially on a crowded bus.

You think you could possibly find it deep inside you yo articulate a reason why?

Like why would you tell someone to "fuck off" when asking you turn down your music in a public place? Like, I would LOVE to hear a coherent thought as to why you would feel entitled to your personal preference of music in an outdoor setting with other people of your community present, without regards to their musical preference?

You think you could do that?
Because I don't really care if you have a problem with it . If like I'm at pool chilling you got a problem my music that's on you not me.

Yeah for sure. I don't even think there's a posted rule in our pool about loud music.

I just don't understand WHY even do it in the first place. That's what I don't get.

There's not a posted rule: "NO SHITTING IN THE SWIMMING POOL", so I guess it's within my rights!

Nah. Use headphones unless you're in your home or driving. For everything else in every other situation, you use headphones.

Technically you can do whatever you want like the kid in the OP and it's legal, but go fuck yourself at that point. Don't go into public places and assault people with your bad taste.

I want a law that makes it ok to smash the speakers/phone when the owner is playing loud music in public places. People would learn not to do that shit. People doing it are assholes anyway so no harm done.

Yeah I usually don't even bothering acknowledging those people, they want the attention.

I get why you were annoyed since your family was there, that said, it is a public spot so that person was still within their rights.

I don't get why it's always the same type of music too, it'd be funny if one day someone just starts blasting Tchaikovsky, I'd find that hilarious.

Are you asking about loud music in public or just loud music in general?
If it's the latter same reason you'd listen to loud music with your headphones or with a banging sound system in your own room/house, at a club, concerts or anywhere else I guess.

The former, sorry I don't understand that myself, I would never do that lol.

See above. I was agreeing with OP that this kinda behaviour is assholish. And well if they're being assholes then it opens up options...

The most basic social principle in existence is that your rights end where they interfere with someone else's. Your selfish desire to be a loudass intrudes on everyone else's quiet.

Headphones, fucking use them. Your taste in music is not as good as you think, I promise.

Regardless of what kind of music is being played, blasting it from your shitty phone speakers in a public place just makes everyone immediately think less of you.

Yeah I'm a pretty nonconfrontational person. I usually ignore it. My kids were around , so it was different. But in the end, we stayed the same length of time at the pool and didnt let it affect us.

I feel bad for people. You can't possibly be a pleasant human being without basic consideration for people, that you do not know, who are around you.

I know man, I feel you. It's like parents and teachers don't get it. This world belongs to YOU, like we're all just living in YOUR REALITY.

So sorry for bothering you bro. Just continue living your #BestLife. These fucking aasholes will never understand that this place belongs to you and we have no right to tell you how to live.

I'm kind of interested in bringing a speaker with me now, not to play my own music puclicly, but to overpower inconsiderate people's music if ever I run into any.

yeah I'm sure calling cops on black man playing hip hop will go real well in 2019. Like come on dude. Like public nuisance lol get out of here lol
Seriously, maybe this is what black people are entitled to in 2019. I don't want to call the cops on someone and risk them telling a cop "fuck you" and then get shot or arrested.

I mean I don't do it, but it's been a thing for a few decades. Come on OP, you're making me feel old now.
Yeah, it was a thing when I was a kid in the 80s with boom boxes and car stereos.

Of course the lyrics are worse now but the act of annoying others with your music is not a new thing

I still remember the teenagers playing a video of a dog getting beaten or something In a bus at full volume, all arguing and discussing how brutal it was, before switching over to extremely loud and over-moaning porn when kids were around.

Disturbing the peace? Nigga this ain't no disturbing no peace. Playing music at a community pool with no rules against playing music is it disturbing the peace dude.
Do you know what the definition of disturbing the peace is? Motherfucker, playing loud ass music with a bunch of profanities in it in a public place absolutely constitutes disturbing the peace, whether you like it or not. You're literally disturbing the rights of others to peace.

Seriously. I don't get this mentality. What do these people think-that strangers are going to be grateful that someone is being fucking obnoxious by blasting music that no one else asked for? Grow some self awareness.

Skimmed over the OP ngl so if I missed something my bad. I love blasting music and I vape. I don't do either when I'm around other people out of common courtesy. Even if the music is PG, I don't wanna bother people with my annoying shit.

To people saying he has the "right" to do that, come on. There's plenty of things you have "right" to do that make you an asshole. We're all trying to get along here on this planet. Have a little consideration.

So like, you understand the idea of "social consideration"? Just because the police won't "do something" that doesn't mean that it's okay?

I mean are you saying that "you can do whatever you want as long as the police won't arrest you for doing it?"

The mentality is self-absorption and negative attention seeking. I'm a teacher like OP, and kids do this shit constantly. They want heads to turn. It's not about the music, or blasting some shit hella loud. It's about attention. Kids who do this are emotionally and mentally not fully developed. Adults who this are stunted in development. Anybody whose response to a modest and reasonable request is "fuck off" clearly has the social-emotional maturity of a middle schooler and are therefore stunted.

Reasoning with these people is not an option. Some towns have noise laws to prevent cars from blasting music too loud. Many public places do too. This is the best route unfortunately. You can't rely on individuals to figure this out on their own.

OP you said you teach middle school right? This is classic negative attention seeking behaviour. Now if this poster is a school age kid. I applaud you trying to reason them. If they are an adult with the social-emotional capacity of your middle schoolers - we have bigger problems at play here.

I've called the cops on my neighbors for blasting excessively loud music from their house, not even a public location. Soundwaves don't give a shit about artificial constraints. They disregarded two warnings and were then fined $1,000. Blasting music, once again, from their home. Disturbing the lives and sleep of those around them.

You're ridiculous if you think the cops aren't going to respond to a noise disturbance in a public location. They will make you turn it down, or potentially off altogether.

Spot on. There was no way this kid was going to understand why he was being inconsiderate if he was playing music in the first place.

Some people just aren't there. It's a soup of reasons why people are the way they are. It's sad, I really feel for people and hope they can grow.
