I expect imgur to be fine. They'll take a hit but as long as people still use it for general Reddit image links I don't see them dying.

We found out the value of hentai

Wow.

What a shrewd business decision on Yahoo's part. How is Yahoo even still a thing at this point? I guess they're just by coasting on that sweet Yahoo Mail money.

Reddit is honestly the best place for porn, you're able to find the most specific things ever.

Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Sports are still doing pretty good, but the most valuable part of Yahoo is owned by Alibaba, which is kinda funny.

My guess is Verizon thought they could force people into using it after Net Neutrality died but they're probably waiting for all the legal battles and pending legislation to end before they pull that trigger.

More sites will do the same until curation gets figured out. Investors don't like it when there's a chance that shit like child porn can get on your site, and they especially don't like it when you don't even do the moderating.

Reddit's policy of "Only enforce the TOS if a subreddit makes the news for a negative reason" may endear them to techbro libertarians, but not to outside investors.

And that's assuming we don't have a Democrat in the White House after 2020, which would mean Pai would be booted out of his position as head of the FCC and nationwide net neutrality rules restored, if not outright enshrined in law by the Dems to prevent the FCC from flip-flopping so easily every time the WH changes party hands.

Though, the recent ruling basically means Net Neutrality is here to stay in the US until actual legislation is made into law - the FCC, when it ripped up the net neutrality rules, also ended up giving it up its own ability to overrule state laws regulating telecoms, and a whole bunch of states put net neutrality into their regulatory structure, especially California.

Ironically, the FCC's previous, weaker Net Neutrality rules before the FCC switched internet provides to Title II were tossed because Verizion got greedy and sued the FCC in the hopes of junking Net Neutrality rules entirely, but then the FCC basically followed the court's suggestion on how to resolve the issue and went with Title II, which annoyed the hell out of Verizion's 'competitors' (let's be real, broadband competition in the vast majority of the US is an illusion at best) who much prefered the old rules.

How does imgur even support itself? I know it has ads and such but am I wrong in assuming most of their traffic is direct images?
That's what we use it for here, but they've repositioned themselves as a sorta social network for memes and such. I have a buddy who will "browse Imgur" like other people "watch YouTube."

How does something like imgur even make money? They're hosting massive amounts of data and I only really see it directly linked with no opportunity for ads etc.

Edit - Sorry, already asked.

Every time I view a reddit post that links to an image hosted on imgur, the comments are literally always the worst garbage I've ever seen. Especially for the fashion subs.

Nobody takes Imgur seriously as a social media platform and those who do are largely the sewer people of the internet who criticize anything they don't personally understand (aka anything neckbeards wouldn't like)

When imgur was somewhat new, the community was actually fairly positive and supportive of each other, I used to be semi-active in it. But it really deteriorated as more and more conservative rightwing dipshits started seeping into it, mostly via reddit. Like cancer they infested it, grew in number and are completely corrupting the site now.
I haven't been actively posting on imgur for years. I still use it for image hosting, but I haven't looked at the frontpage or commented on submissions in a long time.

Is there any alternative? I liked just browsing popular images online sometimes and imgur was great for that.

For image hosting, I know no better alternative. Discord I use if things have to be extra fast, but other than that, I can't think of anything. Every other image hosting site is an ad-riddled heap of trash. Pinterest, photobucket, imgflip - all rubbish.

I'll never get over how imgur went from being a quick inconvenient way to upload images on mobile, to a terrible pseudo-social media platform where I have to sign in and check boxes about privacy or lack thereof every time I want to put a simple picture together. They lost me when they decided to tank the mobile version of their site.

Reddit has amateur girls who are some combination of "too attractive" for porn, aren't about that lifestyle, or want to maintain their careers or whatever.

Although this is basically what you're looking at 95% of the time:
