This isn't very surprising at all. A popular female idol recently mentioned that she was reading a popular feminist book and it turned a ton of her male fans against her with a number of them burning her photocards/breaking albums and shit. Usually that's only saved for when they actually date somebody!

I love idols (male and female) but I will NEVER understand the obsessive culture that surrounds it where people think they literally own another human being. It's beyond disgusting.

Similar thing happened to an Korean illustrator contracted to draw a character for the mobile game Girls Frontline, where the players petitioned to remove the character from the game, just because she retweeted a tweet from that group.

It is the 4chan equivalent of S.Korea's internet. The same that are still defending Park Geun-hye just to be reactionary and offend as much as possible
It's possible in fan culture in general, but I think the idol market specifically nurtures this type of behavior because it makes easier to squeeze more money out of fans.
Park Geun-hye being a woman leader, you would think things would be the opposite, and misogynists would have been the first to want her impeached.
Yeah, most companies definitely market these kids as boy/girlfriends which exacerbates it. I hear it's even worse with Japanese idols but I don't follow them due to how self-contained the industry is.
I'm highly skeptical of the whole "different but equal" idea, it's historically been used to oppress. And continually used by oppressors.

No. But there ARE hormonal differences (for instance) and i'm celebrating the fact that it's great that we are All different.
We should have equal rights and opportunities.

You really are not mistaken. Both Ilbe and Megalia (before the site went down) were notorious for being the absolute worst in Korean Internet forums.
The type of culture that values "harmony" above everything else. The apology isn't for what she did, it's more for what she caused: "I am so sorry that my reckless behavior caused such problems". Her action was somehow "disruptive", a lot of people got angry and that's bad. Even if the people getting angry are basically a bunch of idiots.
And what would you say if the same site or article was claiming that black and white brains were behaviorally different?

I don't it's a silly question. If such claims about race would be racist, which they are. Such claims about gender are most definitely sexist and male supremacist in nature.

A lot of male supremacists are absolutely against women in leadership roles, period.
To be fair the appeal of Bak Gun Hye was a lot more towards the old timers who wanted fascism back. The internet based alt right that was formed from Ilbe and other forums are the younger people type of nihilistic conservativism.
This also ended up backfiring as the reaction to her reading that book caused the sales of it to spike by more than 100%.
During my last, regretable argument with a self proclaimed "white nationalist" and "racialist", I heard the exact same thing, for both race and gender.
