India, along with Canada, leads the way in being one of the few civilized countries in the world that can be a light of reason and civility in this time of strife and darkness.
Argentina had them for years, Think when i was there in 2000 they had it.

That's the most common thing in Argentina. We have that and bagged yogurt.

Yep, this thread is so weird.
Beat me to it.

Are these bags resealable somehow or what?
You pour it in a pitcher usually...

Bagged chocolate milk from an elementary school cafeteria is the best milk.

Man, I could totally go for some sweet sweet yogurt right now.

Also, OP's milk inspired me to do this:

You know we actually have bagged wine in America, although the bag is usually packaged inside of a cardboard box. I think that's a lot worse than bagged milk.

pip pip cheerio fish & chips
We tried them in the UK years ago. Haven't seen them since.

British public opinion is terrible. I used to buy bagged milk when it was in sainsburys, they had these specialised jug thingys that would seal it into a convenient pouring spout it was some top tier product design, I felt like I was in kitchen star trek but I guess having nice things went out of fashion.

They still use them in coffee shops, check it out next time you're in Costa. You can probably get bags of milk down the wholesale.

Bagged milk is dumb. I don't even like the standard gallon container, I think tetrapaks look the coolest.

How do you not spill it everywhere when opening it?
I have to be really careful with chips, but liquid?
Do you hang it in the fridge?

They used to serve bagged milk in Elementary schools here in Texas
Same in Israel. It was all bagged milk when I grew up, then someone brought a milk cartoon and everybody was "yeah, this is better".
And that's why you don't build your national identity around such stupid things Canada, this is also why you still eat that struggle french fries nachos.

Well thats good practice, truth be told I don't really get through milk that much at home so if its not in small portions in walking distance its not gonna be worth doing but its always nice to hear big companies stay dedicated to cutting down waste.

IT GOES IN A MAGIC JUG THAT CLIPS A CORNER OF THE BAG AND PUNCHES A STRAW IN AND POURS OUT A PLASTIC SPOUT WITHOUT SPILLING AND YOU PUT THE JUG IN THE FRIDGE

Who drinks milk from a cup and what is toned milk?
Depending on the amount of cream/fat content India has,
Full cream > Toned > Double Toned > Skimmed.
Full cream is usually only used for making sweets. Usually people drink toned or double toned. Skimmed is for people who want to drink white colored water and still be able to call it milk.
Here is a fun fact about Indian milk
That's because a huge portion of milk consumed in India is consumed in rural areas where people believe that the big dairy companies sell you faux-milk and therefore they get their milk from the local dairy farmers who are notorious for adulteration practices. I know lots of people who live in the cities and still insist that the big dairy companies give you bad milk and only the poor, old dairy Farmer will give you pure milk.

I don't understand why bagged milk is so hard to understand. Of course we don't have free-floating opened bags of milk inside of a fridge. We put it in a jug!

when I was young a friend of mine had a giant bag of 1% milk (ohio here). I thought it tasted weird but probably cause I was used to 2% milk.

anyway, this is best milk:

What does one use to keep it under control after opening the bag though?
Most Indian households have dedicated containers for milk. We usually cut open the bag, pour the milk in the container and store the container in the fridge for the next day or two till it gets consumed.
What do we do with the bags? One word - Landfills.

Seems awfully wasteful. Why not just fill up your reusable jug at the store.
Dunno about other states but Delhi and UP have dairy stores that allow you to fill your milk can/jug at the store through a token system. I don't trust the quality of token milk though.

If you want your milk in a jug, you can also do that with the milk from tetrapacks.... Just saying.

Not proper bagged milk from Canada, at least.

It's very simple, really: You buy a bag from the grocery or convenience store and it usually has three pouches (or milk bags) inside. You keep two of them in the fridge and put one into a plastic container that holds it upright, and snip a small amount of one of the top corners off so that you can pour it. The container has a handle to help you pour and we also have these handy slicers.

Works like a dream

Or just buy it in a jug...and pour it out. One step, lol.

Is it significantly cheaper or something?

I'm curious what everyone pays for..say 1 gallon of milk? (in a jug vs bag)

The bags are cheaper to make and you can still recycle them. Walmart recycles plastic, and we take our bags, pouches and milk bags there.

I think it's close to $5 for three bags now. Together, the 3 bags have about 4 litres. More than a gallon in your weird American measurements world.

Why not, if they're so much more economical

I can't answer your question. It works, though.

US Dairy companies have a huge lobby in the milk industry sector. Couple that with their contracts with plastic companies, bam, you have them advocating the use of milk cartons and such because it gives them the market dominance. Then the push of these in media etc, makes the move from plastic containers to plastic bags so much harder for Americans to grasp onto. Just like it took the US a long time to move away from the use of glass to cartons now. It's a nasty industry eh, only way is if the government pushed control over it which is not coming anytime soon.

But yes bagged milk is better for the environment. It uses less plastic compared to the bottles/cartons etc. Generally people pour it into a container anyway

Milk doesn't belong in a bag. End of story!

I don't care if the largest English speaking country by land area and the largest English speaking country by population think it does, ya'll are wrong!

We pay $2.50-$2.95 for 1 gallon or (approximately) 4 liters in a JUG here in the US (where I live...may be more around the country).

I wonder how cheap bagged milk would be here..hmmm

So what are the pros vs plastic containers? Bagged milk seems stupid in comparison.

Walmart has it for about $4.50 for 3 bags. I just checked. I knew it was between four and five dollars, but it used to be less...

It's already been mentioned more than once in this thread. Milk bags are cheaper to produce, can also be recycled and are less wasteful because they use less plastic. They're pretty light and thin, in comparison to those heavy plastic jugs.
