Instagram hides 'Like' counts in leaked design prototype

Wonder if this test has anything to do with the UK's Information Commissioner proposing a ban on social media 'Likes' for under 18's (in an attempt to reduce children oversharing). If it passes the consolation, this seems like the type of reasonable regulation to likely make its way around Europe, so Instagram/Facebook etc would have to have a design ready to go for under-age accounts in the relevant regions.
Okay cool, I asked whether they'd have access to back end metrics I n my first post in this thread but nobody really acknowledged that part of my post 😅
I wish this would be an option. Just a simple page and stream with nothing but the account photo and the rest of the stream.
I'd love this. Lord knows sometimes I don't post a really good picture because it won't get many likes. Only my selfies seem to get a ton of likes, and not my nature pics. :/
This is a great idea because it's a smart way to get people who have few likes to start posting and feeling less conscious about themselves
There are tons of spam accounts, troll accounts so followers is not really a good metric.
Yeah this is kinda why I don't post anything on there outside of stories anymore. I find taking pictures of everything more interesting than selfies but the selfies take all of the likes

I probably wouldn't have noticed the change 'cause I just read comments on my posts. I'm totally down with the change. I really don't get anything out of likes. On twtter, I mute threads if one of my tweets gets liked a lot.
It's a great change, but overall I honestly believe it's too late to undo the (imo) immense damage social media has done to Gen Z

Yeah it's for the better. It's can become an unhealthy obsession.

You can still see likes if you use a pc to look at the account. And video views.

The user's engagement matters way more. That's what they're optimizing for.
This seems like a gamble from instagram, and I appreciate them for doing it. I personally think its a great idea.
