Internet celebrity Etika may be losing it again [WARNING: RASCIST AND HOMOPHOBIC SLURS]

*Stops reading at "Etika"*
Sigh. Here we go again.
*Continues reading*
Yep. I give up. I haven't seen his content since he started his "comeback" because I couldn't be bothered to find his new platform. Now all thoughts to check up on the dude are dissipated. RIP his Fire Emblem Awakening playthrough forever.

He explained what had happened and his friends confirmed it.

- It was meant to be an ARG that got out of hand, people thought he was suicidal but he was only talking about his streams.
- Said that it was almost entirely to do with the fact that the network he was a part of was keeping him from making more money.
- Wanted a fresh start which meant shutting down his then stream and making a new channel.
He basically underestimated how much his viewerbase, primarily a bunch of perfect strangers, cares a lot about him, to the point that they would call the police to save his ass. Dude just ain't in the right mind.

I couldn't help but check his new channel one last time because of this thread, watched the only two vids he had, and blam, it's gone in seconds. My guess was porn again.
yeah someone in this thread said he posted hentai again. And I just checked twitter and the first tweet on my timeline was an Etika post of what looked like xenoblade 2 hentai. Although I couldn't really tell what it was.

Attention seeking idiot doing the "any publicity is good publicity" shtick. Sad thing is it'll probably work and make him more popular, like it has with others. Now I'm even aware of who he is, and I stay way fucking clear of loud obnoxious youtuber bros.

Obviously a horrible human being. Discussing him is exactly what he wants.

Youtube Channel has been deleted it seems.
Now he’s saying he wants to delete his entire online presence on twitter.

He’s actually threatening suicide again on Twitter. Hopefully the cops get involved.

Just to err on the side of caution I hope someone close to him or someone that knows where he lives has atleast called 911 or the police to do a wellness test. Better to be safe and check then to have a tragedy happen.

I just saw on Twitter that D1 reached out to him by dm but got an erratic response of some kind to his message :/
If he's not being straight with people he's close with then I can't imagine this is just another stunt, though I really don't want to have to give him the benefit of doubt after last time.

If this was all planned, I don't quite grasp what the goal would be here, because the attention wouldn't matter for a deleted channel and nobody wants to be in the psych ward.
He’s likely after attention that his channel wasn’t getting him.

And right now we’re all posting in a thread dedicated to the guy. He’s had friends reaching out to check if he’s ok. The cops apparently showed up.

Guy has got his attention. And that’s probably all he wanted.

Sure I guess. Just seems like it's not very cost effective.

I have to assume he's actually serious about self harm.... or else he would have to be an idiot to have himself sent to the psych ward again. It's possible it's a cry for attention and something serious at the same time.

Reading through his ex's tweets he's either a complete dick going way way too far with this or genuinely has issues that need to be sorted out. Either way he absolutely needs to get off social media for a good long while after this. Sounds like he was almost getting violent and resisting the police.

To me it looks like he's suffering from serious mental issues.

He most likely also took things way too lightly, which is why he kept this untreated leading to his first outburst last year. Having suffered trough this, he probably thought that it would all be better from there on out, leading him to continue as if nothing ever happened, but as it is with untreated illnesses, they never fully disappear, hence the situation we're in right now.

These things will probably continue to happen as well as maybe even escalate even more in the future as long as he doesn't get himself professional help.

This won't end well otherwise.

Here's the thing for me. It's been obvious for a while that mental illness affects a lot of people in the Youtube community. Not all, of course, but more than one would hope. Many people have come out to discuss their battles with depression, anixety, abuse, addiction, even suicide. The environment and culture of the work seems to only exacerbate it. You work long hours as basically a one person Live TV production crew, "performing" for hundreds to thousands of people who expect not only a certain quality of production but also constant interaction. You wear a version of yourself and open yourself up to all the horrors of fame with few of the luxuries we think it affords. So trust, I do think there needs to be a serious discussion about the Youtube and Twitch scene, the people it attracts, and what it can do to someone. Especially as the years roll on and more young people are drawn to it as a potential occupation.

That said, we (meaning the "community" in general, not just Era) gotta stop bringing it out as a defense every time one of these cats does something racist or homophobic. I'm not saying I don't believe Etika has issues. I genuinely believe he does. That said, it doesn't excuse these stunts nor does his potentially having some mental illness means he deserves some sympathy for this shit. He is a grown ass man, and if he's going to truly overcome his issues, he's going to have to be confronted with the reality of what he's doing and have it made perfectly clear with no room for interpretation that this shit isn't going to fly. The longer we make excuses for him or any of these cats, the longer shit is going to stay bad as it is.

God, gamer culture and YouTube celebrity is just so fucking exhausting at this point.
Totally.

What makes me sad is knowing how many of these cats - both viewers and content creators - are young people. They're spending so much time in these toxic ass spaces that it seems normal to them, so they don't do anything about it for the most part.

I don't want to discount the good these spaces have done for a lot of people, but the bad shit isn't even beneath the surface anymore. It's in your face constantly now.

I believe this part is meant as a indirect reply to my post, so I feel obligated to point out that at no point was I intending to defend his actions. On the contrary, if he's getting any shit for what he's doing, he fully deserves it.

The point of my post was to explain why I don't believe this to be a publicity stunt, nothing else. I'm not going to stop anyone from shitting on him or asking for him to be banned. In fact that may be even better for him.

Oh no! I wasn't responding to you or anyone in particular. Moreso just some of the general defenses I've seen of him here and other places.

I'm not entirely sold on it being a publicity stunt one way or the other. I could see an argument for either way being it, and I think this has to unfold more before we know. That said, I think it's kind of immaterial to what's going on. Whether it's evidence to Etika having some breakdown or something intentional he's doing for views, someone has to pull him aside and let him know this ain't it. If it's the former, convince him to get real help instead of attention seeking. If it's the latter, tell him to stop being an immature little shit and work on improving his craft so he doesn't have to pull these lame and awful stunts.

That Etika stuff is wild. Even his gf (or is it his ex now) commenting on it just seems like, man. Dude's got some issues.

Like the fuck is this? Just reading off her tweets on some of what happened looks crazy.

Why are all these youtubers/gamers such assholes? Why?
YouTubers are people. Some people are assholes. Consider the thousands of YouTubers you don't hear about. I doubt the percentage of assholes in the community differs significantly from the general populace.

This isn't commentary on Etika. I truly hope he gets the help he needs
