Is 4Chan finally getting the investigation it deserves? Posting shut off for 48 hours

I feel like groups of government employees or contractors have already combed through all these subgroups and started classifying ones where radicalisation is a concern. Vitirol has been spout for years. Incels are so happy and relieved that one of their own has taken life en mass. I'm sort of surprised nothing bigger has been done about some of this stuff.

Quite possibly he saw what was happening, saw he couldn't stop it, and just decided to bail.

I would have too in that situation....or maybe just have shut down the site.

If/when it does shut down, the users will for sure move to other sites, but I don't think it will be as collective as it once was. Anonymity + years and years of a legacy built got it to the popularity it has, and it will be hard to replicate that on one new website.

I had an argument with my friend about the site the last few days. He keeps spouting bullshit meme phrases from there unironically and has just been absolutely in our group chat. I have to disagree really hard. I was daily in 4chan for more than 10 years and all the negativity, constant insults and just plain hate will really screw with your head. It made me insecure about my height, my skin color, my nationality, my intelligence, my education and pretty much everything related to my existence. I was depressed all throught high school and college and went through a ton of phases where I hated whatever was popular to hate on the site at the time.

It wasn't until therapy when I realized how toxic it was and stopped cold turkey going to the site, having to block it from all my browsers because I would subconsciously just open the site. It's been two years now since I stopped going there and my life has improved dramatically and I really couldn't be happier with life right now.

The site is poison for young minds, which sadly is the main audience it for it.

Im also not OK with a site being shut down because of individuals who may frequent it. This doesn't help fix the problem imo. If anything it would make these people who exist regardless of a particular site harder to track.

And maybe someone like Trump gets to decide this crap some day and he decides he doesn't like Resetera because of its Hillary supporters or maybe to him black lives don't particularly matter or maybe some crude video game releases and he doesn't like Eras association with them in general so shuts it down as well. What would an investigation turn up? I would assume 4chan is one of the more FBI monitored sites. You can't arrest people for being incels.

Nah, I meant nothing of the sort, and I do apologize if I made it seem like I was blaming you for your troubles with the site. Everything else you said was completely valid, and I do understand where you are coming from.

That being said, and again not picking on you, but rather speaking with my own mental health issues and depression that I have had in mind, places like that simply are not for the underage. I'd go as far as to say places that are arguably uncensored aren't for anyone without a certain level of mental well being and or growth that might even go past 18 for some.

Hell, not 4chan, but a certain community did make me depressed when I was around 20. My mindset wasn't there for it, and thus was a toxin to me. Like you and 4chan, I quit that place cold turkey and never went back. It's a bad feeling that I wouldn't wish on anyone, so I honestly do understand some of your scenario.
