I'm not interested in the subscription service model.

I do want to own my games. I only have time for a handful of new games a year anyway. So carefully selecting 5-6 games a year to buy is more up my alley.

That's pretty much me. I recently bought Monster Hunter world on PC, I'm 4-5 monsters in, and took a break already. Been going back to Yakuza games, in Prep for February collection release.

I just don't have time, when I did have gamepass I played select titles. Like gears 5, Outer worlds. And that was about it. Nothing from the back catalog interested me at all. On top of PC version not having all the games Xbox version of gamepass get's.

Like With Yakuza collection, Doom Eternal, FF7:R, and last of us coming. I'm set for a while.

with the exception of 1st party the two will probably never be the 1:1

That's a shame then, I hyped up gamepass to a friend because at the time I was having a fun time with Outer worlds, and they announced DMC V, then found out it's xbox only gamepass. Told my friend about it, he looked on his PC, and was like " it's not here".

Kind of dumb to be honest. And reason being they don't offer that game through windows store, which is where these gamepass games come from. That would probably have cost a lot more for Microsoft.

For me it is, yes. I got lured into the Game Pass Ultimate sub via the deal last summer and now has GP prepaid until 2022. So for me XSX will be the cheapest way to enter the next gen. Getting the XSX and have the 1st party launch games ready just waiting for me day 1 and more coming during the launch window is a very exciting scenario imo.

Nah, I'm okay. It's a good service though for the value it provides, it's just not for me. I prefer straight out buying the games I want to play. I also own a gaming PC so if I wanted GP I'd get it there, no need for an Xbox for me.

It's a plus, but not enough to sell me on the system on its own. I have a huge backlog as it is, lessening the appeal of something like Game Pass. For next-gen, I think I'll be fine with the wait and see approach.

I compare the best price here: https://www.xbox-now.com/pt/game-comparison

And buy the gift codes and live gold, from here:

Buying regulary from there and not a single problema in the last 2 or 3 years

But, i must advise, i am not responsable for any problems that can occur. There are many options on cheap gift codes from many key sites. I buy from here, but people are free to make their choices.

If I buy gift card/gold for different region, then I can only use that region to redeem or buy games from?

I do agree that Game Pass is slowly developing itself to the No. 1 system seller for Xbox.

The huge organization that is Xbox Game Studios with all the studios they added in the last 18 months complements that.
Do we know if they will switch the PC Game Pass games to "normal" windows programs? I don't know how to put it, but currently they are UWP games, right?

No. Win32 is supported.

They changed that in June 2019 with the introduction of PC Game Pass.

Our Approach to PC Gaming - Xbox Wire

We believe the player should be at the center of their gaming experience and be able to harness the unique benefits of the devices they choose to play on. Nowhere is that belief more important than on the PC. As the creators of Windows, we have a unique responsibility to ensure we’re investing...

We want creators to be inspired to bring their best content to Windows 10, and we want Windows 10 to be the place where gamers come to discover their next favorite PC game. We recognize that Win32 is the app format that game developers love to use and gamers love to play, so we are excited to share that we will be enabling full support for native Win32 games to the Microsoft Store on Windows. This will unlock more options for developers and gamers alike, allowing for the customization and control they've come to expect from the open Windows gaming ecosystem.

Pretty much all the additions these days are Win32.

I haven't decided yet. I bought an X1 and regretted it, until GamePass. So if I do buy a Series X, it'll most likely solely be a GamePass machine. With that in mind, I'm hoping they release a cheaper, digital-only box. If they do, that'll be what I buy...if I buy.

The kind of games I tend to play a lot are not the ones that are conducive to a subscription model. If I played a lot of shorter indie games it would be one thing, but when I'm typically dropping 100+ hours on games like Persona 5 or Dragon Quest XI over the course of several months it just makes dramatically less sense.

So I got a used Xbox just for game pass and was going to get series x at launch but now that it won't have exclusives just for series x might just wait. Getting PS5 at launch and can get both, that just really made me question it for day 1. Got to imagine x1 gamepass will still be supported during those 2 years. Will have to wait for more info on series x

Yep. That and Microsoft's commitment to multigenerational BC have guaranteed that I'll be getting a Series X day 1.

Subscribers to Gamepass says otherwise.
It's amazing what people will experience different outside of their comfort food when you don't have to pay $60 per game
Even if Gamepass has say, 10 million subs (very unlikely it's anywhere near that obviously), that comes nowhere near the number of people that buy those same few games every single year over and over and over.

Also those games don't stay $60 all year and not everyone buys in day one. Most people aren't paying 60 for every game they play. Personally I only pay 60 for a few games a year at most. Everything is is bought on a sale or later when prices drop. I think this is becoming more the norm.

That said, you're right. I'm absolutely sure Game Pass gets people playing things they normally wouldn't. Which is GREAT for the industry as a whole. I for one would love to see MS get more Japanese games on the service for that reason alone.

Funny thing is having recently picked up an Xbox One X I am currently on my $1 month trial. I've messed around with a couple games. Never would've bought State of Decay or Outer Worlds. Looking through the service there is a lot that I would try, but nothing I feel is worth a constant sub. I'll likely resub whenever something I want comes to the service and cancel when done. I could easily see that becoming a very common factor with Game Pass.

EDIT: I misread the prompt. Yes, I'm far more interested in getting a Series X because of Game Pass, especially since I have Game Pass Ultimate loaded up until the end of 2021. May not get it day one, but I will probably get one eventually.

No, they haven't changed that. They just implemented a way to package Win32 programs as UWP apps. You still have the limitations where you can't access the folders of the games (no modding allowed) and you must launch through Start Menu or Xbox app. Try to go into WindowsApps where all of them get installed.

I voted "nah", because I have a PC. I don't have any need for an additional box that does less. Microsoft focusing on PC again is a great move and I have Game Pass on PC.

I only play 1-2 games per year and have no interest in any of the titles avaliable on gamepass at the moment so no
I guess its great value if you are constantly playing , have a wide range of taste and dont mind playing mostly "just OK" titles
You don't have interest in any of the 250+ games available on game pass? Damn you must have some really specific tastes 😂

Also your last sentence is so wrong man, game pass is full of incredible amazing games, not "just ok".

As long as the games are coming out for xbox one also in the first couple of years, there's no compelling reason for me to get a Series X at the offset. Microsoft is usually also pretty aggressive with console pricing after a year or two (eg, deep xbox one x cuts), so will happily wait for that.

Oh damn, I missed that, thanks.
The post you quoted is wrong. They may technically be Win32 but they have all the UWP limitations in place. You are not allowed to mod Game Pass games and they have the usual UWP issues when it comes to interacting with third party programs.

You wanted them to be "normal Windows programs". They are not.

So far I don't see any compelling reason for me to buy the Sexbox

Unless they get some banger exclusives that don't also come out on PC like every other Sexbox game announced thus far

I'm in a similar position time wise, but of the games I choose each year at least two or three are likely to be MS 1st party games so it's a no brainier to keep GamePass for me. Not to mention, my kids often find a game or two they want to play as we go so it has been a great model for us.

You can mod Halo Reach on PC Game Pass, no?

I want to play Gears 5, I'm going to acquire 2-6 month subscription. I don't need Gears 5 more than that. I'll enjoy other games at the same period of time. This is awesome !

I literally just quoted the official announcement. How can quoting something be "wrong"?

All the newest additions are in win32 format. Whether or not they limit accessing the folders is a different question - but you already further clarified on that, which is fair. I hope they fix that in the future as well, although at the same time I'm pretty happy to see the games being rather cheater-free, which is the added benefit I guess. I'm not sure if I personally would want to give up on that just for mods, but that's subjective.

No. Seems like a great value but I don't play that many games per year and MS exclusives haven't interested me in a long time. Sony makes the games I want to play.

No, you can't.

It's a bit weird, really. There is a launch option that disables anti-cheat and it's labeled "for mods", but you aren't actually allowed to access the folder to mod the game. So the mode is useless. The Steam version has the same and can be modded normally.

If I had more time to play video games, yeah probably. The value is insane. But considering I only have a handful of hours a week, most of the games wouldn't even get looked at let alone played, so the value would be somewhat wasted on me. Makes more sense for me to just get the few games a year I really want to play.

No. I have an X and games will be compatible with it for a while and i can play gamepass games on pc so no need to buy a XSX

The day 1 releases are on both, I think most people pay for those
Not all of the day 1 releases have been on both and won't always be. For example, Gears Tactics is coming soon and won't be on both the same day (in this case PC is the one getting it, but other games may hit console first). There have been some day 1 third party indie titles that are only on one.

In any case, the best part about game pass is I have a really low risk way to try out games I never would have purchased. It has really expanded the kind of games I'm playing and given the extra variety in having both PC and Xbox game pass, there's no way I'd give up either side of it.

Ok so I just took a look at the catalog, I think I'd have fun with minit, dmc5, hellblade, hollow knight, edith finch...maybe even going back to fallout3
It does have better games than I give it credit for

Still, none of those make me go "whoa I need to play this right now", and I'd need at least 3+ games to meet that criteria in order to justify gamepass.
Its more if a "me" thing tho, I have other passions that I enjoy more (like gamedev for example) and there are few games that actually make me want to pour my free time into them.

As I said, I can understand why people see the value in gamepass, but I dont see how it's worth it for those who play 2-3 games per year

There's like 10 subscription services. I think the value depends on the way you play and buy. For me, they're not especially alluring.

I don't think it makes financial sense for me.

I "know" I'll get a PS5 for exclusives.

An Xbox Series X + 4 years of Game Pass would cost, what, about $1000? $500 for the console, $480 for four years of Game Pass.

That's the price of 17 full price games, or some higher number of indie games. I think I probably buy 1-2 full price games on PS4 a year, plus maybe 2-5 discounted + indies.

Not by itself....BUT combine Game Pass with an awesome console, how ingrained I am in that ecosystem, Halo Infinite, the exclusives (or rumored exclusives) coming down the pipe, xCloud, etc. and I'll be there Day 1 for Series X.
