Is Prostitution the Worst Value in Entertainment?

Let's look at some rough numbers:

Video Games. Depends on what you tend to play. But even the most linear games give you AT LEAST 6 hours of fun for your $60. I love RPGs that usually take at least 30 hrs. $10-$.01+ per hr of entertainment.

Movie Theaters. About $20 for a 2-hour affair. $10 per hour of entertainment.

Cable. People love to hate the costs of cable and I get it. But still if your package costs $120 and you watch 12-48 hours of tv spread throughout the month, that's a mere $10-2.50 per hour of entertainment.

Drugs. Depends on your particular vice but even the best quality weed doesn't set you back too far for a 4 hour high. I don't know enough about cocaine to price. On the higher end let's call it $10-$50 per hr of entertainment.

Prostitution? $100-$5,000 hr of entertainment.....What.The.Fuck.

It's especially perplexing in a world with 'free' porn of every shade, hook up apps, relatively cheap cam sites, realistic sex dolls, etc. etc.

How do escorts get away with providing such a terrible value proposition? Are they that good at their jobs?

Am I missing an even worse value in entertainment?

What am I missing ERA?

It's the worlds oldest profession for a reason people enjoy having sex and no video game or realistic sex doll can really replace a person..... not yet anyways alltough Japan is trying their damndest.

I mean

I think that the emotional and physical investment of having sex with 1 person for money really, really outshines the amount of personal preparation and intimacy someone marketing a fucking video game to possibly millions would be showing.

My point is that sex workers are far more intimate with their audience than video games.

... sexual experiences have more inherent value than video games, movies, or cable TV? More than drugs, probably. To experience sex with someone, particularly someone you are attracted to, is nice. I actually think a reasonably-priced but attractive prostitute is a pretty good bang for your entertainment buck.

Well, it's a person using their own body to satisfy you with some degree of exclusivity, and these people have a right to set a price they see as fair and worth the service they provide.

Saying it's terrible value seems kinda disrespectful. It takes guts to engage in prostitution. It's risky in many different ways. I know I wouldn't.

Judging by what some acquaintances of mine say, some prostitutes might charge hundreds of bucks for just one hour and leave you thinking it was worth much more than what you paid.

Human intimacy/ intertaction is what you are missing. Despite the things you've mentioned there is a large part of the population that has a deficit in that regard (for whatever reasons) and that's not something God of War or internet porn can provide.

Those forms of entertainment you mentioned do not involve another person being physically with you to begin with, so you should compare it more to that. Something like going to a play (although that involves a ton of people, not 1-on-1) or more closely, private tutoring. But private tutoring piano or math doesn't involve many risks, which you do if you are a sex worker. You risk STDs, and sex workers are often vicitms of crime.

You're comparing goods to professional performances. You're not buying something, you're acquiring someone's services for a certain amount of time. Prostitution is more akin to acquiring the services of a Huber driver or a laywer. Then you need to adjust the value of the service to the refrequency and rarity (the person offering the service has to make a living out of it) and so on?

So my advice is: start looking at prostitutes as people offering professional performances and not goods, and you'll make more sense of how it works economically. Even if that doesn't happen, at least you'll be looking at them as people and not goods.

Maybe it would be the worst based on time but sex is alot more entertaining to me than most movies. I'd assume that a good prostitute would be decent sex. But idk for sure.



If we're just going off of time then Videogames are the best form of entertainment by 100 country miles.
