Is ResetEra a US centric forum in 2018?

When I signed up on NeoGAF years ago I'd often see people talk about how US centric that forum was at the time. Over time though, I felt like there was PLENTY of discussions on UK issues, EU issues, even down to mundane subjects like breakfasts etc and these topics got plenty of replies.

I still see threads like that that today on ResetEra. Today, I saw someone post that this is a "US centric forum."

I would have said this is multi-national forum.

I wanted to do a poll but I can't figure out how.

Well, it's an English-only* forum, so that makes the US the main audience.
Still, there's a fair bit of non-US people here, me included.

It's completely US-centric in my opinion.

US politics, discussions and views permeate pretty much everything. I guess it's unavoidable when maybe 80 to 90% of the userbase is from there.

It's definitely US-centric, but it has a worldwide audience that's very substantial. The international aspects make this board as interesting as it is.

Still, some US posters seemingly struggle with the idea that people can discuss things from a non-US frame of reference.

It totally is, but that's not a huge deal though. Different threads and communities will all have a different makeup.

Forum is US centric, but not because of "Welcome to ResetERA, THIS FORUM IS US CENTRIC, MIND THAT!" but because majority of members are from USA. Nothing bad or wrong about that.

It's unfortunate. Somehow ResetERA seems to be even more US-centric than the the old forum. Hardly anyone ever posts news from the rest of the world (unless it's about racism or plane crashes).
I wish there was a more international outlook that included those 95% of the planet that happen to be outside of the USA.
Does ResetERA have more US members than the old place?
I always assumed the internet itself was US centric.
No, the internet is global.

Most places seem to be used heavily by people in the US. Doesn't bother me as I just tend to ignore all the US politics. I'm not an american :)

As a Brit who has just joined, I intend to do my best to fill this place with discussions on marmalade, top hats and Helen Mirren.

I wonder which state most users are from. I see a lot of Cali talk so I'm assuming there but I'm not sure if that's due to the size or the tech concentration.

I don't know how accurate sites like SimilarWeb are (since it considers all traffic like people that click links on twitter, us users, etc, it can't tell specifically by accounts), and it was always like 40% range from U.S and the rest is from around the world. So technically the country most people on the forum come from is the U.S.

People forget that pretty much most Europeans can speak English well, since a second language in most countries is mandated throughout school and at a young age, and English is by far the most chosen one, so it can give an illusion of the true make up of Internet communities that are anonymous

Lol @ the some of the top referral sites including voat and thebore. No surprise there.

It will be German centric in due time.

Did I do the "evil Germans" meme right?

It's as nation centric as its content is. Feel free to post threads about local politics, issues, debates, games, films, etc.

Era drives me fucking crazy with how US centric it is to be honest. It's much worse than NeoGaf.

Edit: I suppose the question is why?

We know not everyone transferred. Some Stayed on NeoGaf, and some quit NeoGaf but did not come to Era.
I guess, that NeoGaf accrued its European members slowly over time, and that in an initial glut of members joining Era US would be the main country given its dominance.

I just noticed that RE's Alexa ranking is now a lot better than that of the forum we originated from. That was quick.

Huge majority is American and white. Just look at how the OT is taken over by Trump, fast foods and Super heroes threads all the time.

I actually never wondered, but how international is our moderation team?
Excellent question. I wonder how diverse the mod team is? I hope there a well balanced diversity ratio of races, gender and so on on our mod team.

If not, things will have be looked over and adjustments should be made asap.

What can we do to improve the diversity of our mod team?

US centric but it seems certain Europeon posters have no problems showing that they hate how America is the assumed center of the universe so when they post here it makes it feel more like a global forum.

At the same time
95% of political talk is about America
95% of tv shows discussed is American TV shows
95% of movies is Hollywood movies from American companies.
80% of social issues really only apply to America.

NPD talk is certainly a big deal. That is US centric.

Yeah, you're are on a US centric forum.

The whole English-side of the internet is US-centric. It's just a population game.

Sometimes it's a bit awkward but you get used to it.

It's extremely US centric and you consistently see threads and conversations default to American perspectives and contexts.

I mean...not to sound braggadocious or to exaggerate its position in the world, but the US is the biggest economy and exporter of its culture in the world, this site is an offspring of two previous forums that were started by Americans and have always appealed to Americans.

The cool thing about America is, despite a vocal racist minority acting like insular racists, most of us love other cultures and what they bring to the table. So while US centric topics might dominate, I’m fascinated when I read about German elections or Japanese dating problems or other news from around the world. I think it’s all welcome here, but the population is so outnumbered it might seem to get drowned out. By all means post more about non US stuff

Pretty sure this mod team is a lot more diverse than the last mod team as far as walks of life. Even if it wasn't there is a TOS they follow to enforce the rules. It's not like if a mod from Japan would play favorites to Japanese members. They would be expected to show punishment to people equally.

Yes.
Too many posts here are ethnocentric point of view.
Only 10% of Americans have a passport and we live in a huge, diverse country. That skews our view of the rest of the world and its a shame.

Yeah it feels very US-centric to me, just as much as GAF was.
I can't complain too much since all the French gaming forums I know are a trash fire. So I'm happy to be here, even though the ethnocentrism sometimes gets to be a bit much in some threads.

Didn't GAF consist of 40-50% US users? It's probably gonna be US-centric given that, and given the fact we speak English on here.

That said, I find non-US matters to be quite well represented too. It never bothered me and If I'm being honest, American politics is unrivaled in drama.
