Is Smash Switch a new game or port

I've been debating with a friend about this for days. And we are still undecided. I am on team new game while he is on team port. So era which one is it?

It's not Smash 4, at least...well, technically 3DS and Wii U weren't either. But it breaks away from the 3DS roster unlike Wii U

Nobody knows. It's probably a mix, reusing the engine and many assets but changing and adding a ton of stuff. Sort of like Splatoon 2.
