To be fair that is probably the most correct assumption for both Metroid and Pokemon. They were probably only greenlit due to the Switch's success, so they are a half year in design/dev at best
For Pokémon, it's just how TPC operates (as far as we know) for mainline game reveals.

nah, both games were greenlit before the Switch's success (because where else is Pokemon gonna go if Nintendo vetos any mainline pokemon game not on Switch?). there's been rumors (from here, actually) that Metroid is further along that we thing

Utah
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask HD (Ocarina of Time HD too I guess)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Switch Edition
Super Smash Bros. 4 Deluxe
Final Fantasy IV Switch
Fire Emblem Fates Deluxe Edition (all DLC)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD, and Skyward Sword Remastered Collection

Those are the more obscure things that I want besides the usual desires to see Pokémon, Metroid and stuff. Probably none of the things on my list will get announced but it's nice to see it on a list.

Here are my guesses.
  • Animal Crossing reveal
  • Fire Emblem trailer & final name
  • Smash reveal
  • Kirby Star Allies trailer
  • Yoshi trailer, final name, & release date
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ late port announcement
  • Blizzard game reveal (Hearthstone?)
  • Mega Man 11 mention w/ new footage
  • Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection mention
  • Ace Attorney 1-3 & 4-6 Collections announced
    • AA7 will be revealed later
  • Wolfenstein 2 mention
  • Fe mention
  • Xenoblade 2 DLC info
  • New Splatoon 2 stages &/or weapons
  • New Nintendo IP reveal
  • Some 3DS stuff
  • Metroid Prime 4 trailer w/ 2019 release time-frame announcement
Nothing on Pokémon until a dedicated Pokémon Direct that'll at least be out before E3 to announce Gen 8 for Holiday 2018. People will worry about Holiday 2018 until then.

The World Ends With You 2, if that reddit rumor that got a ton of other stuff correct is anything to go by.

Just in case anyone missed it:

Both Emily and John Harker have basically confirmed that the Direct is next Thursday, so mark your calendars.

So, is Fire Emblem Switch very likely to be present in this direct? Do we have any sign that point to this?

I think we'll definitely see the Fire Emblem Switch game, considering it was announced to be in development nearly a year ago.

Maybe something from Next Level Games? Could be another Luigi's Mansion or Mario Strikers or something else.

I don't really believe Odyssey will be getting DLC. If we look at games like Fire Emblem Warriors, Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, all of them had DLC announced before they released. You could argue the same for Arms and Splatoon 2 as well. There was nothing like this on Odyssey so I doubt it will get DLC. Wouldn't be against it though.

You know, this is actually quite realistic. I could see your predictions coming true. I do think Pokemon will come out this year, but I agree that it'll be shown later in the year. And I also agree that people will indeed worry about holiday 2018 until then, haha.

This was posted on 4chan's /v/ board a few hours ago. I don't know how legitimate this is so take it with a grain of salt.

It sounds pretty realistic. Nothing too crazy.
Except for "His Golden Eyes" because I'm not sure they could get away with that.

- I believe Smash Bros switch will be announced no fixed release date (fall )
- Animal crossing will also be annnoced with a release date for summer
- Yoshi and Kirby get a release date
- A new game we haven't heard about might be a new IP or resurrected one
- A Sequel (hoping it's a new Kid Icarus uprising sequel)
- Fire emblem switch will also get a trailer not fixed release date
- No Pokemon
- Odessy DLC
- Wonder 101 port
- Xenoblade X port
Third party
- Darksouls collection
- GTA V (am with Phantom thief on these two)
- fortnite.
- octopath travellers gets a better name, and a release date
- A huge third party surprise that we didn't expect.
- Overall I don't expect a lot of third party showing.
- Indies games will be left out for there own showcase

They will show Bayonetta 1 & 2 to remind us the release date. However, I don't think they will show another Wii U game deluxe edition before Bayonetta 1 & 2 release. They didn't reveal Pokken DX before MK8 DX release. Same with Bayo 1&2 reveal after Pokken release. Revealing several Wii U re-release at the start of the year isn't good for PR. I still believe they will spread out the re-release most of the Wii U games over Switch lifetime.

They will probably show and the release date of Wolfenstein II, the new Kirby, Yoshi, FE, AA Collection, project octopath. Probably also new stage for Splatoon 2 as a further push.

Wishlist:
GTAV or online only version
Fortnite Battle Royale
SMT V gameplay reveal

I have seen some people not expect any new reveals except Fire Emblem Switch. We are talking literally a year where all we know so far is fhat Kirby, Yoshi, Fire Emblem and Bayonetta port is coming and you don't expect any more reveals? There is a thin line between pessimistic and unrealistic...

Expecting Fire Emblem Switch at this Direct. They'll save Prime 4 for E3. My side prediction for 2018 is that they'll announce Prime Trilogy HD.

Just to put things in perspective

Here are how the last 8 years of main series games were revealed

Black & White - Official site title, CoroCoro first reveal
Black 2 & White 2 - Pokémon Smash TV show
X & Y - Pokémon Direct
Pokémon Bank - Pokémon Direct
Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire - Random video
Red, Green, Blue, Yellow Virtual Console - Nintendo Direct
Sun & Moon - Pokémon Direct
Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon - Pokémon Direct
Gold & Silver Virtual Console - Pokémon Direct
Crystal Virtual Console - Official site

Here's how the last 8 years of spin-off games were revealed, going backwards from the most recent

PokéLand - Official site(Mobile)
Pokémon: Magikarp Jump - Official site (Mobile)
Pokkén Tournament DX - Pokémon Direct
Pokémon Duel - Official site(Mobile)
Pokémon GO - Press conference(Mobile)
Detective Pikachu ~Birth of a New Duo~ - Official site
Pokkén Tournament - Pokémon World Championships
Pokémon Picross - Nintendo Direct
Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon - Title reveal through PR, first official showcase a week later in Nintendo Direct
Pokémon Rumble World - Nintendo Direct
Pokémon Shuffle - Nintendo Direct
The Band of Thieves & 1000 Pokémon - CoroCoro
Pokémon Art Academy - Nintendo Japan Video
Pokémon Battle Trozei - Nintendo Direct
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Gates to Infinity - CoroCoro
Pokémon Rumble U - CoroCoro
Pokémon Conquest - Jump Festa
PokéPark 2: Wonders Beyond - CoroCoro
Pokémon Rumble Blast - Nintendo Video
Learn With Pokémon: Typing Adventure - Official site

So Direct reveals are typically for spin-offs, but not exclusive. As most have been mobile lately (due to Ishihara not believing in Switch), it's hard to gauge. If a Pokémon game is revealed in the Direct, chances are it'd be a spinoff and chances are it'll be Detective Pikachu :P

2d Zelda, 2d Mario, possibly Smash tease, possibly Metroid, a Wii U port or two (tropical freeze)

There was a rumour not so long about a 2D Zelda game right? So I'll go with

- 2D Zelda (3DS exclusive just to piss everyone off)
- Yoshi Switch title and release date
- Kirby Switch title and release date.
- Wolfenstein 2 footage and release date.
- Detective Pikachu on Switch! (nah probably not)
- Something about Animal Crossing, maybe some gameplay, then a 'we will talk more about Animal Crossing Switch at a later date' sort of thing.
- Dark Souls Switch. Not a collection, just the first one.
- Either The Wonderful 101 port, or Bravely Default/Second remastered on Switch.
- Indies!
- Bayonetta Stuff, it all looks fabulous.
- Something unexpected, either a new IP or something dead being resurrected.
- No Metroid Prime 4.
- I think they'll detail their online services here, and new virtual console.
- Octopath Traveller proper name and release date.
- Something Rockstar. Not GTA 5 or RDR2 though.

I'd play the heck out of a Wind Waker & Twilight Princess HD double pack ala Bayonetta.

I'd also love to see Animal Crossing, it's been too long.
