Imagine growing up with that happening regularly, traumatising entire generations of kids.
These kids are pretty much born on the battlefield. This part of the world probably produces the most battle hardened people.
I'm in the Coursera IHL course now and we just learned about this. As the video states at the end current IHL interpretation and common international law allows for this type of strike. It's sobering to see many people's fears of this technique come true. These strikes minimize the possibility of civilian death but do not eliminate it. Also the practice of the technique is widely married. In many instances the warning attacks themselves don't give people enough time to get out, which was not the case in this video. It's really saddening though, especially those kids who were doing the cooking video.
The idea is to let people know precisely where the bomb will drop. It's about destroying safe space, physical information, weapons. Personally something like a colored flare would be better.
It's IDF tradition, couple of years ago they also shelled a beach where kids were playing, killing four of them.
