Most of you have probably already purchased this bundle. If you haven't, I highly encourage you to. You'll be directly supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, and there are now over 1000 games in that bundle. Here's a link-
itch.io

Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality by itch.io and 1391 others

Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality: 1741 items for $5.00

A unique problem that most of us are probably now facing is about what games to play in this bundle. Even browsing the bundle is an exhausting activity.

So the purpose of this thread is as follows - if there's a game in the bundle that you have either played or know about, and think it's a good game, then you post about it with a few lines of description. I'll go first and snatch all the easy ones so you folks have to work harder. :P

Nuclear Throne:
One of the best Roguelike shooters ever made. It's mechanically satisfying, difficult, and incredibly addicting. Highly recommended.

Night in the Woods:
An award-winning adventure game with gorgeous art, lush world, and more nihilism than your WW2 vet grandma can handle.

Super Hexagon:
A minimalistic action game that's trippy and addicting.

I'm posting a comment by Nappael below that lists great recommendation lists made by a few cool Era members. Also has the link to the original thread about the Itch.io bundle. Do check it out-

Hi OP, could you list the ongoing thread?

(This one can be daunting still. A curated list of 100 or so games which are at least interesting)

a bit more of a focused, ordered list. Filling up as Toma gets through the bundle.

Happy to see more recommendations in here, as this bundle can be quite overwhelming. I'll happily link this thread too.

I'd like to start by recommending Beglitched. It's a neat Bejeweled/Minesweeper hybrid.

HATCH - This wonderfully tense climbing game was one of my favorites of 2019:
www.resetera.com

"HATCH" Just Released on Steam and It's One of the Most Captivating Experiences I've Had with a Game All Year (Launch Sale for $2.99 USD)

Steam: Itch.io: https://rubeki.itch.io/hatch Picked this up today and it not disappoint. The premise is pretty simple where you jump up angled walls and avoid a oddly shaped Sun but as you get higher and higher things get more and more dire. Thankfully there are checkpoints (often signified...

I'm still getting into all the games (THERE'S SO MANY lol) but from the games I played I really enjoyed Towayami and Wave Crash. Wave Crash is like a cool tile matching battler and Towayami is a horror game where there's nothing on the screen and you have to use the mouse to find clues to progress and it's quite atmospheric.

Sagebrush
redactgames.itch.io

Sagebrush by Redact Games

Explore a cult compound in this narrative adventure game.

Sagebrush is a first-person narrative adventure about exploring the compound of an apocalyptic Millenialist cult in remote New Mexico years after they collectively took their lives in a mass suicide event.

In Sagebrush, you'll investigate the long-abandoned Black Sage Ranch, the former home of Perfect Heaven, an apocalyptic cult formed in the early 1990s under the guiding hand of the prophet Father James.

Sagebrush has an amazing 32 bit art style and it's soaked with atmosphere. If you like cult stuff steeped in reality and narrative 'walking simulator' type games like Firewatch and Gone Home you'll be quite at home. It's remarkable.

Hull, UK
Oxenfree, not a sequel to Olli Olli, is a really fantastic adventure/story driven game, with an innovative walk and talk mechanic, spooky setting and one of the best implementations of new game plus that I've seen. Love it dearly and highly recommend it.

So many. Here's my starter list of games I'd been waiting to buy, just based off a cursory glance without really digging in:
The Trolley by Nicholas O'Brien

Palace of Woe by owch
"a sort-em-up labyrinth with one ending cw: light body horror"

10S Ten-s Tennis get it

Hot Pot Panic by keanerie
"Cook delicious meat, veggies, and tofu in a tasty broth until they're just right. Multitask your way through three meals! You'll be cooking and eating while keeping up a conversation with your friend. Make sure she never figures out you're really just here for the food.."
aDrtU%2B.gif

Kids by Playables
KIDS allows you to move with and against crowds until everyone is gone. KIDS is a short interactive animation drawn by Michael Frei and coded by Mario von Rickenbach, their second collaboration after the award-winning project PLUG & PLAY.

I actually think it might be worth to keep the discussion focussed into the other thread for now (where many posted excellent impressions and recommendations already and which already has been linked on other websites) as many also have that bookmarked instead of spreading the info and attention across 2 threads where its likely getting less exposure, until the bundle sale is over.

After its over, I absolutely vote for making a new recommendations thread though.

What do you think snowhite ?

Democratic Socialist Simulator is pretty fun from what I've put into it so far. It's basically Reigns but instead of playing as a medieval king you're the first Democratic Socialist US President.

Quadrilateral Cowboy is fantastic as well

OneShot is in the bundle and its absolutely worth your time. Its about a cat that awakens in a dying world that you must guide back home as you explore and learn more about this new world. Its a very somber game with a loveable cast that interacts with things outside of the game in interesting ways.

To throw my hat in the ring, I've been playing and ratin/ranking/commenting all games in the bundle, my full list is currently here:
https://itch.io/c/915453/quick-impressions-bundle-for-racial-justice

You can follow that collection/list to get updates when I add more, here are a few recommendations from the other thread:

https://bludgeonsoft.itch.io/vilmonic
lVhEF%2F.png

I love my simulation games and this game falls right into that. Some of you will hate it, but its hard for me not to love what they were going for here, with evolutionary theory being used as game mechanics. You get a creature type and then evolve more different types from that. Its very open ended, so you shouldnt expect a goal here, its more an evolutionary sandbox which is fun to explore and figure out. You might end up being happy with exploring what the game does in 2 hours, but man does the rabbit hole run deep. Animals "evolve" by changing their body forms with individual pixels that are used to show how they react to their environments. Different colors means different behaviours to certain aspects, while the size (or the amount of "wrinkles" changes surface area and as such how much water they need. Figuring all of these mechanics out is a gameplay experience that not everyone will appreciate, but this gets a thumbs up from me. Only downsides are that the visual variety is a bit limited and the game could use some inspirational goals after the tutorial. For everyone loving to explore game mechanics: 4/5

https://finji.itch.io/overland
rRGG7%2B.jpg

Another game about travelling through the USA, trying to survive while fending off monsters. People seem to complain a lot about the difficulty of the game and I can see why. Its really unforgiving and requires you to use your tactical options to your fullest potential to have a chance of surviving. I really enjoyed my first hour with it though. Its tough as nails and you will lose, but there is also a surprising amount of tactical depth here and the tension kept me on my seat the whole time. I really didnt mind restarting as the levels were substantially different enough to feel intriguing again. Curious what other surprises this game holds. 4,5/5

https://finji.itch.io/night-in-the-woods
04jE2Q.gif

Easily the most popular game I looked at so far, Night in the woods is a thoroughly unique and intriguing slice of life adventure, observing a million different aspects about her life, the city and the pains of growing up. The game is almost painfully slow as you wake up and just go about your life every day with sorta normal scenes from "life". It all just feels very real though, as its written well and the characters are so well realized. I can easily see a lot of people getting bored by it, but man is it a special game that really doesnt come along too often. 5/5

https://dos.itch.io/the-secret-of-tremendous-corporation
X%2Fqbe%2F.png

Adventure game in a unique handdrawn style made for a game jam. Pretty standard affair overall, right up to the end, where the puzzle becomes a bit stupid. Really didnt care much for the story, characters or setting unfortunately. Top that off with some weird input lag for controls and sometimes unreadable text and it ends up... not particularly enjoyable. 2/5

https://prophetgoddess.itch.io/astaeria
acCArf.png

I really like the idea of a poem visualizing game and it kinda succeeds in creating pieces of music that feel distinct enough for each poem. The platforming parts though just feel identical with a color swap, which means I got the most enjoyment out of this by just pointing the mouse on the floor reading the poems. Not much of a game, but the idea has potential. 2/5 for the music generation.

https://toastygames.itch.io/parallax
CqFeXJ.jpg

This is a stupidly pretty 3d puzzle platformer with Portals. The puzzles obviously get more intricate as the game moves on. It is focussing more on exploring a few puzzle mechanics across its different worlds, so its missing that last inventive spark and variety that games like Portal have, but the game is so ridiculously pretty, especially in motion, that its just enjoyable to work yourself through the levels and watch the inverting colors pass you by while using your brain matter. 3,5/5

https://squinky.itch.io/pamplemousse
fXAhzL.jpg

Omg, I cant anymore. I am laughing my ass off. This game really cant actually be rated and ranked. At its core its a very light adventure game with claymation animation. Oh and its a musical. Fair warning: The singing isnt good, but its so... consistent and just works charmingly well as this worlds voice that I find it hard to complain about it. Be prepared to smile about the frequent off pitched note, though. This game seems so wrong, but its also so cheeky and utterly unique, that its in its own league. Short adventure game. If you are in a very special mood, you might end up randomly loving this to bits and pieces. I kinda did and I promise you its one of the most memorable games you will have played lately. Unrateable/5

https://problematicar.itch.io/stophat
5rX3Q%2B.gif

Arcade style game of slapping someone with its tophat. Admittedly a rather unique setting, there isnt much more to it. 2/5

https://2darray.itch.io/not-the-robots
ZE%2F7db.jpg

Great stealth game with a very unique and interesting gameplay loop that requires you to "eat" the furniture in the level, allowing you and your opponents new paths and strategies. The items can be used to more efficiently sneak through a level, which increases your score, which in turn unlocks more features/game modes and extra levels. Incedibly polished package for a unique concept in a well known and beloved genre. 5/5 without question.

https://codeavarice.itch.io/paranautical-activity
Zw4zaC.png

Competent Roguelite first person shooter. Its a bit more simple and less thought through than its more popular genre brethren (Ziggurat), but its weirdly intriguing to shoot floating ghost sharks into their face with a shotgun. Also has incremental unlocks that allow you to see more of the world and enemies over multiple playthroughs. It still feels a bit stitched together though and the combat and enemies dont give you a decent enough feedback. 3/5

https://qlrz.itch.io/qlrz
7UCNZ1.jpg

You create the right color with the color mixer at the bottom of the screen to shoot incoming colors. Get hit enough times and the game is over. Technically a solid highscore game, but controlling it with a mouse is incredibly annoying, I can easily see this being a great timewaster on mobile though as the colors and gameplay is well executed. 2,0/5 on PC (Probably around 3 with touch controls)

https://crowbarska.itch.io/switch-n-shoot
w5uy2B.gif

Super addictive highscore game controlled with just one button that steers the ship left and right. If I wouldnt try to play more of these games I would easily fall down this rabbit hole. I wish it had more of everything, even just unlocks for the ship graphics, side panels/skins whatever to fully satiate my neverending highscore hunger, but still a great game. My record is 46, beat me. 4/5

https://madameberry.itch.io/visual-out
%2B0zacz.gif

Highly intriguing Metroidvania with an AI theme. It is intentionally obtuse and has a very large world that you need to explore before understanding where you might be able to go, with almost every room chipping away at your health if you arent too careful. I definitely will get back to this, as this game still has a ton of mysteries and upgrades that I want to explore, listening to the fantastic ambient soundtrack. Might up/downgrade the rating later as its a longer game, but seems like a fair bet for 3,5/5 or higher.

https://eniko.itch.io/midboss
FBh1Xr.png

This one caught me a bit off guard. Challenging roguelike with a very cool and unique mechanic of possessing other monsters, which drastically changes up your moves/abilities as you move along the floors and it even throws you some bones with the death cards, that save your previous run as a character card that you can pick one item from for the next run, making for constant progression. The UI is a bit weird sometimes, but the Disgaea style humor/feeling and the deep tactical gameplay actually hit me quite hard. I really want to get back to this game and dive deeper into it when I get the chance. Really, really nice first impression. 4.5/5

the HELP Menu.
I highly reccomend MidBoss! It's a classic Roguelike, with the fun mechanic of Possessing the bodies of the monsters you fight and defeat, and eventually mastering the abilities of those monsters so you can Equip their form to both yourself and other monster forms you possess.

When in base form, you get the best stat multipliers of the three monsters you equip, and you can also equip and change abilities from these monster forms you equip, and doing so smartly and mixing up your equipment for the different builds you can develop over time is important to overcoming much of the tough fights you'll encounter.

It also has some great modes to make it more accessible, like a lives system or a generally risk-free sandbox, as well as "Death Card" mechanics that allow you to replay dungeons you died at or beat to give them another shot, even bringing equipment from your different runs to build up to a successful one!

It's very well made, and has super fun mechanics and potential! It also supports pride month! I highly recommend the entire bundle for obvious reasons, but especially for this game!

The original thread absolutely has some great recommendations. But it's mixed in with a lot of general discussion about the bundle, it's progress and other stuff. So looking for recommendations there is a bit of work. Personally, I'm really liking the fact that people in this thread are mainly suggesting games that I can check out, and ancillary discussion is to the minimum.

That said, if a mod feels that there's a lot of overlap between the two threads, I'd be okay with having it closed. If you think that as well, feel free to report this thread with your suggestion. That's totally cool. Also, that Parallax game you posted looks pretty funky. I'll check it out.

Cheers.

Nah, was just thinking out loud if my thoughts made sense to others and/or you. ;) Also seems to be that many people werent actively aware that recommendations posted in the other thread, so its cool people see that we post recommendations in here. All has its ups and downs.

I would love if you could structure your OP a bit more to make other recommendation lists a bit more visible though (i.e. not quoting Nappaels post as it makes the information disappear in the quote box, but list it as other recommendation threads/lists/resources).

Sorry to be a pain in the behind, hope you dont mind my comments. :)

And yeah, Parallax is funky, really love how it looks.

I bought it shortly after reading Kotaku's article on it.

They do a fantastic job Mechanically of fitting the themes. For instance, you control an entire group of protestors. If one dies, you directly control another "leading" member. You're also rewarded further for keeping your group safe.

The Steam page itself has some great FAQs that deconstruct some criticisms against the game.

If you are in a very special mood, you might end up randomly loving this to bits and pieces. I kinda did and I promise you its one of the most memorable games you will have played lately. Arcade style game of slapping someone with its tophat. Admittedly a rather unique setting, there isnt much more to it. 2/5

Thank you!

I'll copy/paste my impressions on the 2 I've played so far.

You go around the level, eating furniture. You can't exit the level until you eat a certain amount, which the meter in the bottom right tells you. You don't HAVE to eat every piece of furniture but doing so will give you a bonus.

When they start introducing enemies to the mix, this is when you start to debate on what to eat. You can hide behind/underneath furniture to sneak around and stay in cover.

You can pick up items that have different effects. One might make you run faster. Another will let you break a wall to open up a path.

When you die, you start all over. You may come across a 1-UP that lets you respawn once.

Depending on how far you make it and any bonus points you earn, everything adds up at the end of the game and you'll level up. Each level up will unlock something and from looking at the menu, there's a good amount of content to earn.

Definitely recommend this! Good amount of replay value it seems. Didn't come across any issues when playing. I was using an Xbox controller, btw.

Gun Rounds

This is pretty fun.

Turn based game. Use the mouse to click on an enemy then use 1 of 4 attacks to shoot.

You have limited ammo and attacks use different amounts of ammo. You recover ammo by blocking shots, which you do by left clicking on the mouse when an enemy attack gets close to you. If you fail to block, then you'll lose health. You can also fully reload your ammo but it will be slightly harder to block attacks since the circle around you shrinks a bit.

Only way to gain health is by reaching the shop.

4 attacks is the max you can carry but you can swap out an attack if you find a new one.

Enemies vary in terms of health, and you can see how much they have. When you defeat enemies, you'll get currency to use at the shop. Btw, enemies move around to you kinda have to time your shots and make sure your cursor is on them or near enough.

Different color palettes to unlock.

You can also quit mid game and continue later. Once you die, you need to start all over.

Very well made game. Fell in love with the concept. Definitely recommend.

My post from the other thread, detailing my impressions of all the Android games I played through (all but one of the original batch):

Stealing Toma's scale to discuss the Android games since I've played them all a bit now (I'm not nice enough to link it like Toma though).

A Snakes Tale - Fun snake-ish game. You take turns to move your snake to the goal, while having to navigate other snakes on the board out of your way. Gets challenging fairly quickly, I'll probably play a good little more to see how challenging it gets. 3/5

Blast Run - Shmup where you deploy bombs whenever you move, or do like little whirlwinds to the side when scrolling, and a super slowdown if you just barely dodge an enemy. It's okay I guess? Controls kind of impossible on the screen. 2/5

Codemancer Mobile - This is cute! It's almost like a q-bert RPG that teaches some rudimentary coding/logic stuff so far. You play a little girl enrolling into a wizard academy. It has great art and surprisingly strong voice acting. I haven't played a lot but I think it's aimed at kids so it's pretty easy. 3/5

Feud - I really like this I think. I've only played one game, but it's kind of like chess. You have a King, Medic, 2 Soldiers, 2 Archers, and 2 Shields. Every turn you get two actions - move, and attack or heal. It's a little more complicated than my basics but I'm excited to play some more and develop some strategies, then play it online. It has a discord and it said something like 40k downloads so this might be bigger than I realized. 5/5

Fool's Fortune - An Oregon trail-ish tale told with flipping cards. Kind of felt like the opening of Ogre Battle with the cards lol. No real depth, or interesting mechanics. 1/5

Gunhouse - Tower Defence + Block Puzzle sounds pretty cool, and the graphics are gorgeous! I don't really "get" the block puzzle part yet, I kind of suck at it, but I'll be trying again. 4/5

He Plays The Piano - ??? I think it's an interactive drawing or something I honestly couldn't figure it out. 1/5

Idioctopus - Kind of like sliding ice puzzle + Lemmings maybe? I like it, your cute octopus combines with another one at the end of levels and becomes mega cute. Pretty easy so far, hopefully it gets more challenging. 3/5

Karambola - single screen puzzles where you interact with the picture to "solve" something to reveal a story about... something? I got stuck pretty quick but it's alright. 2/5

Omeganaut - Starfox SNES but worse. I already don't like SF SNES. It has controller support but I used touch screen. 1/5

Orbis - Slide a stack of chips left or right depending on color. 1/5

Petty Puny Planet 38 - Make choices from a choice of 3, see how your planet develops. Writing is nothing special. For some reason I still spent like an hour trying to get as many different "endings" as possible. 1/5

Super Hexagon - I've played it before but I don't remember if it was on my phone. It's fucking awesome but super hard. 4/5

Switch n Shoot - Actually a pretty fun little Shmup. You automatically scroll left and right and wrap around the screen, and every time you fire you change direction. A little too loose and makes the controls hard, but I'd put it in the same vein as Super Hexagon or Downwell with lower presentation. 4/5 highly recommend I keep playing this one

I believe there was a gay visual novel game too. I didn't download that one as I'm not really the target audience of either of those things. Looking forward to having to scroll through another million pages whenever more are added O.O

here's one

Knights of the Card Table won me over with its art and immediacy. It's got that simplicity like Dicey Dungeons, but each level builds on top of the previous, introducing new card types and scenarios. You have classes, synergies and combos to play with. I would say its as much a dice game as it is a card game. I sunk an hour into it before reminding myself I had work the next day. Much recommended.

Sagebrush

Sagebrush by Redact Games

Explore a cult compound in this narrative adventure game.

Sagebrush has an amazing 32 bit art style and it's soaked with atmosphere. If you like cult stuff steeped in reality and narrative 'walking simulator' type games like Firewatch and Gone Home you'll be quite at home. It's remarkable.

+1 on this. It really came together quite nicely with it's ending, and there were some really damn creepy moments.

So overwhelming, but thank you for this thread and for the effort put forth by others here and elsewhere to curate everything. Sagebrush and A Mortician's Tale are first up for me.

Wow! I'm getting Ico vibes!

Clearly, this thread would benefit greatly from a poll.

I'll be amazed if I ever get around to trying even 5% of these games.
