It's almost been a year since the EGS exclusivity deal, but there is still no word on a potential Steam release? Do you think Ubisoft will release it on Steam, or are they done?
Just get ubisoft games through uplay, ubisoft's games on steam still install/ start up uplay anyways so it's not like there's much difference.
This. But I guess people want Steam Trading Cards, Achievements and that kind of stuff, too.Just get ubisoft games through uplay, ubisoft's games on steam still install/ start up uplay anyways so it's not like there's much difference.
Not really an issue because EGS has/had some amazing deals going for Ubigames. Got the Anno 1800 Gold Edition for 30€ through Christmas and The Divisin 2 for 5€. And I still got a 10€ store card from these two deals that I can redeem until May 2020.Honestly, the most inconvenient part about the EGS partnership means not being able to use Greenmangaming.

they don't really need to. if anyone was wanting to play it they'd have just got it from uPlay. i don't see the point in waiting for the Steam version.
So what I'm reading here is that by buying from uPlay we are facilitating the transition of regular games to GaaS. Neat, good to know.Because Ubisoft has uplay which they like to use for their in game integration, online functionality, payments, and mtx as an all in one solution. And steam sort of interferes with it. A steam copy of an Ubi game isn't just a shortcut to the game on uplay unlike EGS copy.
More importantly, Ubi makes most of their money via mtx. Steam changes a flat 20% (since Ubi makes over $50 mil in revenue) for mtx as well on Ubisoft games, whereas the EGS version is basically a shortcut to add the game to uplay after which you don't even need the EGS launcher and all the mtx is processed on uplay's end. You can't do this in steam ver as the steam ver of a uplay game doesn't allow them to process the transaction on uplay and doing it via steam payment is the only option there.

200,000 people recently saw the point in buying Metro Exodus from Steam.

Ubi already primarily does GaaS anyway and has been for a while now.So what I'm reading here is that by buying from uPlay we are facilitating the transition of regular games to GaaS. Neat, good to know.
"Why sell my brand of orange juice at Wallmart and pay them a cut when I can sell it on my own corner shops and keep all the money?"
It is not a black and white situation, people have varying degrees of interest in games. I have a mild interest in it but not enough to buy it on uplay. If for example it was 6€ on steam i would have bought it there.

Supposedly they don't.I have to imagine that both EA and Microsoft have special deals with Valve in terms of revenue share. Obviously Valve doesn't want Steam without all the major publishers, and it's good to see that effort.

I have EGS, Uplay, Origin and Steam installed and I get the games I want to play on the store where I need to get them or where they are cheapest. It literally matters 0% what program you open to start a game

People can do whatever they want but there is no logical reason outside of "game was cheaper in store X" or MAYBE "for some reason store X literally doesn't work for me" to buy a game on one store over another. everything is just "personal preference" which ultimately means nothing objectively.200,000 people who bought metro on steam launch disagree with you but yeah "just another launcher".
Terrible analogy. Metro doesnt use its own proprietary launcher.
We might see more developers take the metro approach after the success. Epic pays you for exclusivity, they can launch on their own site and then a year plus down the road launch on steam and get even more sales. Why would Microsoft, Bethesda, EA, Activision and CDPR release their games on Steam when they can get 100% from their own launchers? This have been discussed numerous of times. Recently in a thread regarding Metro Exodus selling 200,000 copies within days on Steam, one year after Epic's and Gamepass exclusivity deals.

edit: i'll bow out of the thread though, EGS bad etc...
Of course it could never be the fact that Steam has features that people find valuable.
