Chris Nolan should have outsourced the design of the banal and disappointing Interstellar planets to James Cameron and the least compelling dreams of all time in Inception* to Satoshi Kon (Paprika et al).


* Inception has the slight excuse of the dreams having to seem convincing initially - but there was tons of opportunity missed to do something really spectacular with the inherent nature of surreal human dreamscapes.

I agree that the Interstellar was seriously lacking in creativity and imagination when it came to designing how the planets looked, planets from an entirely different galaxy no less. I'll give a pass to Inception but it also features a similarly lame visual sense tbh.

He could easily have had a great career as an illustrator. The number of things he excels at is ridiculous. Thanks for sharing, OP. I've seen a lot of those, but not all.

The sketch of Rose in Titanic is by him as well. He is left handed, so to get the filming of the sketch correct he had to draw it right handed to match Leo.

That Terminator drawing he did after his fever dream is awesome.

And.. people are still hung up over Inception not having pink-dancing-elephant type dreams? It's been nearly 10 years.

He's an incredible artist. The terminator paintings were based off dreams he has and almost everything in that endoskeleton made it from dream to concept art and then to production. Even the hydraulics and moving mechanisms without him having to do further research as to how these things work. Quite remarkable really considering the design still is practically functional today with CGI

Cameron is truly talented as hell in a number of different aspects. There's a reason I'll always look forward to what projects he does in the future.
