Either Hikari mentoring Sena in kayfabe or they're close friends. That was probably Haruna's best match so maybe it's not such a bad idea for Misao to be back in the undercard working with rookies. Kamiyu vs Pom was decent. Triple threat was fun. Suzume vs Natsumi and the main event were good. Surprisingly solid show considering Itoh and Yuka were unavailable and Miu, Mina, Mirai and Rosa were presumably out with the flu.
Sena was friends with Hikari before becoming a wrestler and she inspired her to become a wrestler.

Miu Watanabe and Mirai Maiumi weren't out with the flu, they had their coming of age ceremony.

Kylie taking a Wednesday night indie booking in NYC in April is kinda interesting. Sorta surprised she hasn't been announced for any WM week shows yet.

Interview with David Benoit, Chris Benoit's son just come out. He opens up about a few things. Very nervous, but to my knowledge this was the first I think anyone has ever mentioned Benoit's son. He work in the oil fields, but is actively trying to get into wrestling.

Holy shit, BIG NEWS
Former WWE Champion and current Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, Kane makes his return to SmackDown this Friday for a special appearance.
The Big Red Machine has competed in more Royal Rumble matches and has more eliminations than any Superstar in WWE history, and with the match on the horizon, could Kane be ready to make history once again?

So who is he jobbing to? the fiend or Corbin?

Kane and Big Show in 2020, new decade, same old shi....ndig?

Yes! Kane! In 2020!

No joke, I would love him in the Rumble to pad his stats further. He deserves to have that record.
Every sole elimination for a cheap nostalgia pop before getting eliminated by the flavour of the month big man is still one more point to the tally.

With WWE's hard on for breaking records one has to wonder how they'll go about eventually topping the Big Red total.

I'm very tempted by that Lion's Break show in Tampa but every other one of those has been like an hour long. Are they really gonna charge people those prices and show up for an hour at this one

Could just be because it's "Bash at the Beach" and DDP is wrestling, or they might have something special lined up.

He has been the subject of a wreddit thread every week for basically 5 years, he's even done interviews for years saying he wanted to get into wrestling.
Neat. Thanks for the fact check. I wish him the best of luck. Hope he works hard and finds his identity out there when he performs. Its exciting but extremely nerve racking to be so new. Can't imagine what its like to have a family history like his preceding every action you make in the business. Its gonna make it very hard for him. Both on what they expect of him and what some toxic folks may think of him. Hoping anyone who works him on the mic is respectful enough to know how to stay off certain smack talk in a shoot.

Oh, I have no faith in this...wrestlers are going to be wrestlers. To get over they'll do anything, hell, we even have someone as thoughtful and respectful as Owens having used the hard R in a promo once upon a time while working bad indies.

Apparently winning = 4 the place

I was educated by the kind folks on the off-brand wrasslin thread that keep in mind the last year's rankings are on there, and also that "reset" is misleading - we should view it more as a "season"

Which I wish AEW would call it a season, but that's tough to do when you don't have seasons, and people work all year, etc.

This article is from 2014!!

It just feels like the David Benoit thing is him trying to rebrand and get clicks again. He claims WWE said they would be interested him as far back as 2010. He enrolled in Lance Storm's school and never showed up. He got booked to wrestle at a Hart Legacy show while still untrained and then pulled out at the last second because Chris Jericho told him to.

Not that he's a bad guy or anything, but when we are on a full decade of newz sites saying that he's starting his wrestling career and fans being weirdly excited for it and then it never happens, it just strikes me as odd. Just like WWE fans obsessing over whether WWE will mention Benoit.

So the ranking is a weighted seeding thing based on prior years record? Like it gives a point or so per so many wins and takes so many losses to lose a rank initially in the next year?

Uh, who knows how long that'll happen, I really don't know. I think that's overcomplicating it, but they're not exactly...ehh.
Yeah, people can chill out with the ratings stuff for a while. AEW has a long-term relationship with TNT now.
psh, any opportunity to celebrate a victory over WWE is going to happen for years

AEW extended through 2023 on TNT, 2nd show coming (maybe AEW Dark televised?)

If that's what Cody was excited about, fair play to him.

Nah, it just weights the last however many matches higher, like an MMA ranking does. Also, the quality of your opponent matters. So a win in October is worth less than a win last week, and a win against a complete nobody in a squash is worth less than a loss in a closely fought fight with the champ. They aren't a league table which seems to be the biggest misconception.

People sure love talking about them. Coming at this from having followed MMA for a while, they seem to work exactly the same way UFC do their rankings, so all the poking and prodding at them continues to strike me as strange.

There are so many lower-card wrestlers- Kip Sabien, Sonny Kiss, QT Marshall, etc- that I think have made 1 or less appearences on Dynamite, and a 3rd hour of TV (and maybe even a 4th if Dark continues) will help them get more people on TV. Wouldn't be surprised if this also is just "AEW Dark as we know it is dead, it's nowjust on TV" though.

Wonder how much money they ended up getting- pretty sure Meltzer will have the numbers at some point. They were mostly just getting TV costs covered before, wonder if they are getting real money now

AEW DARK COLLECTIVE SUNDAY NIGHTS AT 10. ALL BRANDI ALL THE TIME!

Ok sorry that's cruel. I'll stop

They really don't need another 2 hour show though. Or even another hour. They're gonna run through their roster quick
