JapanERA, I want to learn more about Japan!

Hi :)

I've recently got back into anime and mangas, and with all the new and awesome japanese games that came out last year, my interest in Japan has peaked. Now I'd like to know more about the history and culture of Japan, the ninja and samourai, and such.

Could you folks point me towards some good (non-fiction) books to read on those subjects? That would be awesome :)

They make you take your shoes off when you go inside.

They take it seriously.

The girl at the gym chased me outside into a freezing blizzard to explain that indoor shoes are indoor shoes, outdoor shoes are outdoor shoes, and if I want to continue being a member of their "sports club" (it's just a gym) I need to understand this.

It's really annoying.
