That Tokyo Revengers rebound gives me hopes for it to be #1 of the year! I saw on twitter that it got a reprint yet again, so maybe this rebound from previous weeks (Which is basically the same as its highest week ever, being 20k apart).

Whatever happens, is gonna be an interesting last couple of weeks for this Oricon year unless TR slows down significantly.
Also if KnY's 2nd season premieres on October/November that might give its volumes the boost needed to overtake the other series too...
This week's higher sales are due to Obon (a Japanese holyday). See how JJK, KnY, Kingdom, HQ!! and AoT all increased week-on-week.
Next week will be a good showcase of how all these series will behave for the rest of the year.

MHA with 900k in two weeks is probably the vest two weeks of sales it ever had
Vol 31 is probably over 600k already

Isn't Demon Slayer season 2 coming this year? No one will top that. It will be 1st again by a wide margin.

I think if Demon Slayer Season 2 comes out in early October it would have around 1 or 2 months to close a gap that's currently less than 500K. If DS S2 comes out in October it will end up beating JJK for sure even with the 2 million of JJK's new volume.

You are underestimating Demon Slayer quite a bit here but we will see. It should easily take the first spot.
dude you are the one making bold claims with the "easily" and "wide margin", I am just saying DS saturated because it is exactly what happenned I didnt even claim Jujutsu will be first

You are ignoring that Jujutsu will have a new volume that should increase the gap to 2.5/3 million
And I'm saying that you are greatly underestimating the impact season 2 is going to have. Dwindling sales are not always if at all the consequence of saturation.

I am not underestimating anything, DS saturated, it wont have the same sales as it had before, sure it can get enough of a boost to be first but it still saturated, just look at this own thread and you will notice

Of course it will not have the same sales, no one said that, but it will have enough to completely outpace everything else this year.
On top of that they will release a game in october too. Demon Slayer hype slowed down but it will be right back come october.

assuming 100k per week before october and 500k per week after it should get 4,5M until oricon ends
JJK should get 100k per week at minimum in those weeks + a volume at 2M so 3,3M
in this scenario DS ends with only 1M above jujutsu, not what I would call completely outpacing

also looking at the preorders i doubt the DS game will have any impact

No point in making any kind of predictions regarding Demon Slayer as it has consistently proven them wrong for the past 2 years.

But I wouldn't be too confident in season two giving it any kind of sizable boost. It still hasn't cleared the new stock it received 6 months ago and there were even reports of a retailer giving the volumes a price cut iirc.

It's hard to imagine that there is a big-ish audience on Fuji TV that hasn't heard of the manga and that would be inclined to buy it following the new episodes.

Wait and see I guess

I recently watched the whole JJK anime and now understand the hype. Well deserved. Need to get into the manga now myself.

Also interesting that a lot of popular manga like JJK, Chainsaw Man, Spy x Family, all are backordered in the US. Can't find them anywhere...guess unprecedented demand.

There's been some articles about it, but COVID causes a boom in the manga market and publishers are struggling to get reprints out. I have to take my time with Goodnight Punpun, because volumes 4-7 are likely not going to be available until October

what are the chances that when TR anime is over the sales improve even more? If that happens I think it will pass both DS and JJK

Yeah.. Basically TR lost its chance to be #1, I think.
If it had continued 2-3 more weeks selling +1 million AND for some reason JJK dropped in weekly sales below 100K a week (Which may happen during September, before its new volume) AND JJK's next volume was rescheduled because of author's health or something (Which won't happen) then maybe.

But 978,704 is still basically 1'000,000 and maybe Tokyo Revenger volumes are sold out in some stores or something (Basically IF this week it sold less because last week it sold so much that its inventory began to have some volumes out of stock in some places or something.

I saw this tweet some weeks ago:

I don't know if we were given numbers for its new print or total? Do we know if these reprint volumes are already in stock?

I really wish TR somehow beats JJK haha just because it's the underdog xD

seems like TR has reached it's peak.

Even if it's not beating JJK it's a massive sales boost.
Demon Slayer > Jujutsu Kaisen > Tokyo Revengers

There is a trend here, and the only question is "Who's next?".

Demon Slayer brought a new wind in the physical manga market that has led to these two boosts. The consequences of this phenomenon wil be felt for a bit longer, until it all settles down.

I imagine manga being more accessible than ever on top of really solid anime adaptations in general helps push things. I imagine if that keeps up a bunch of series will see big booms. Chainsaw Man should be the next up. Maybe even the new Bleach anime could do things for sales on that series even if long over.

Whatever the new hot manga is next year... Maybe Chainsawman or Blue lock, as HStallion mentioned BLEACH's new anime might give it a boost too if it manages to engage with this new audience Kimetsu no Yaiba brought over. But I have seen a trend of remakes/continuations pandering only or almost only to already existing fans, which I think, at least right now in the post-KnY era, is a mistake since there is a lot of new readers/watchers (AKA potential merchandise buyers).

Recently there's been talks that something will be announced after One Piece's anime episode 1,000, I hope its a remake and it starts trying to appeal to new readers/watchers because, as I have previously mentioned here, OP's fanbase must be pretty old by now, they need to market to the new fans that KnY introduced to anime/manga, not only in Japan but worldwide.

The One Piece news is most likely a new movie. No reason to expect anything even close to a remake.

And tbh, One Piece doesn't need to gain new fans that much. The majority of the money it makes is from merch. It's better for Shueisha to try to gain new hits that will last than to try and regain a bit of what OP lost (at costs far greater than a new property would need).

I know One Piece is perfectly fine as is. As for the costs of making a "remake" if things like Saint Seiya Omega exist (And every other anime made to sell toys to kids) then that cost will most definitely be recovered.

The model I'd love them to use is stopping the current storyline in the anime and remaking 26-39 episodes, then doing 26 episodes of current content, then remaking another batch of episodes, etc

I know it's not likely, and it's almost 99% sure the announcement in episode 1,000 will be a movie, but boy I would love this remake idea I propose. But yeah I was just answering your question which was what manga might get a surge in popularity.

Heck.. Now that I think about it maybe a new OP movie could do a Strong World V2. but highly unlikely. Who knows.

But yeah, just disregard everything I said about me fangasming about One Piece haha, anyways I have had this theory that maybe the next super big hit will be a seinen manga (in 1-2 years maybe) I just think it could happen because the KnY fans would have grown a bit more (I know KnY appealed to everyone, but you guys get my point). I am talking a seinen more like Tokyo Ghoul than Monster btw, like a seinen battle manga basically.

I have a feeling Chainsaw Man will be huge on the anime front. Judging by how anime-Twitter has blown up since the trailer. So many new CM fans have come onboard. Also helps that the animation looks top tier as well.

It's definitely going to be Chainsaw Man. It's already incredibly popular even without an anime, the PV is in the top 5 most popular pvs ever and attracted alot of interest from anime only's and attracted alot of new fans and word-of-mouth is extremely positive. Plus, we have part 2 coming out, so it will still have new volumes to sell.
I think the real question is who will also explode with it. I'm betting on Frieren, which is also really popular, and we should get an anime announcement by middle of next year or even 6 months from now if we're lucky.

This is Weekly Shonen Sunday that we're talking about. The mag that took 300 chapters to give Komi-san an anime, that has yet to give one to Mao or Yofukashi no Uta (Call of the Night).
Of course Frieren is way more popular than these have ever been, but still, I wouldn't be too hopeful about an anime announcement anytime soon. But maybe they'll prove me wrong - they are in a pretty dire spot right now, so that may make them change their way of doing things.

Rouk' Sunday still sells better than Champion, right?

Even if that's the case, it seems to me that Champion managed to get some big hits here and there, Yowamushi Pedal back in the mid 2010s (Please get another season!) and currently Beastars and Iruma-kun while Sunday has.. Well, nothing really? Taking a quick google search they have this manga from the mangaka of Claymore that is like 15 volumes long but I don't think is really a hit, right?

On that topic, Sunday is so weird because they clearly spend some good money on stealing getting mangaka from other publishers like the previously mentioned Claymore mangaka, and Arakawa when she did that manga about farming and yet they lost probably the biggest new talent they had in the entire 2010, Magi's mangaka.

Talking of Sunday, I recently finished this manga that was published here in Mexico, "Mary Grave". I totally recommend it, it was cancelled, but it was pretty good for a 5 volume manga.

Also I didn't even read the manga, but there was this manga "Amano Megumi wa Sukidarake" I always thought it would eventually get an anime, idk it just seemed like the kind of manga to get a 13 episode anime or whatever.

Yeah, Sunday sells more than Champion I believe.
But I feel like you are really underestimating Sunday's IPs. Yofukashi no Uta and Mao sell on a similar level as Yowamushi Pedal. Them and Be Blues, Tonikaku Kawai (Fly Me To The Moon) all sell over 50k in a month. Major 2nd is on Iruma's level. Then there is Frieren. And of course, Conan and all its spin-offs.
Conan alone is worth more than anything Champion has. And it could keep getting spin-offs basically forever.

Champion is the one in the worse spot : Iruma and Makai are the leaders. Behind it is Yowamushi Pedal. There is also the Saint Seiya spin off that sells well, but it's on an irregular schedule. And then, stuff that barely manages to enter the top 50 on their release week (Baki, Tougen Anki).
Also, Beastars is over.

I think csm will get a boost but it will be limited because it isnt as kid friendly, specially compared to Kimetsu
Yeah JJK also isnt but compared to CSM it is something that I think is much easier to see parents letting their children buy
I am thinking of something closer to the AoT boost

With no new volumes coming out in time, seems like One Piece will have a drop of around 1M YoY in the oricon rankings. Edit: nvm Ignore
Meanwhile, wonder if JJK could beat One piece's sales in 2010
Also, suprised that Look Back ended up in top 10 with only 2 days of tracking. Glad to see it do well. Has any other one shot done similar or better?

Hmm, so One Piece 99 jumped back up during the leadup to volume 100, but none of the others did. At least not enough to make it to the top 50
