So happy to see Chainsaw Man here. Hopefully it will receive the same boost JJK got next year, with part 2 and the anime coming out
Weird to see One piece outside the top 5. I think that's the first time it happened in over a decade.
Anyway time to make some predictions here and the other thread

• JJK will still be will be No.1 next year with the movie and a potential season 2 coming out next year. SpyxFamily will be second, Tokyo revengers 3rd (rumored to also get a season 2)
• Chainsaw man will be in the top 5, but out of the top 3.
• One piece will be out of the top 3 again

Kinda weird to see MHA be number 5 yet not have a single volume in the top 50, unless I'm blind.

Tokyo revengers blowing up is still crazy. It's not like the anime was stellar like DS or JJK, guess the story and art really sold it (I liked it). My guess for manga that blows up next year is blue lock. Not as big as TR of course, but top 10. It's a great sports series I can see blowing up if the anime is good.

For my reasoning :
I consider that Tokyo Revengers will be more stable than JJK and I don't think that the movie JJK0 will have a huge impact.
I think One Piece won't get a 4th volume this year (longer breaks from Oda) and its reader base will continue to slowly decrease.
Demon Slayer is quite hard to predict but I think the second season will give a significant boost.
I consider that even if the 2nd part of Chainsaw man gets starts this year it will be counted separately by Oricon (and thus won't make it into the top 10)
Kaiju n°8 won't grow (its customer base might even slightly decrease - same thing happened to AoT before the 1st season aired)
I don't see what could prevent Kingdom's reader base to get eroded away.

A potential surprise could come from Attack on Titan with its final season

Overall it's interesting to see that we have all the same top 10 list, I guess it shows that we expect the market to struggle to renew itself.

Eh, I know a fair amount of people that did consider it one of the prime candidate for a sales boost. It already had an anime and a live-action movie announced.
I myself had it as one of the possible top 10 candidates
These were my predictions back in early November 2020.

Most people I talked to who thought it wouldn't make it to the top 10 did so because they thought the manga would end soon. I think it influenced my choice not to put it in the top 10? (Cause I don't read the manga, so I believed them). I'm not sure, I don't really remember.

Momentum following the announcement, or the promo, are good indicators of what will blow up. Hence why people are talking about Mystery and Blue Lock for 2022. Obviously, it doesn't always work that way, for example, this season's best boosts have been Ousama Ranking, Komi-san and Blue Period. Blue Period was expected cause it had had good backlog sales for a while now, the other two sure weren't.

The hardest thing is to predict how much a manga will blow up, if it does.

My predictions for 2021:

1.- Chainsawman: 12'000,000
(Assuming right now it's at 12'000,000 total) averaging 1.2 extra million per volume, putting it more on less on the range of JJK OR if 1 or 2 new volumes are released this target would be easier without the need of the backlog selling 1.2 extra million per volume.
This is based on Chainsawman getting an anime in 2022 and releasing one or two new volumes of its continuation.
I think it's safe to assume Chainsawman would be the anime to get the boost of Kimetsu readers, although maybe Kimetsu readers readership boost is waning as they had already consumed JJk and TR in 2021 and might not continue reading manga.

2.- Blue Lock: 10'400,000
We don't know if the Kimetsu boost will be big for spokon, but since this series has a lot of volumes it should get a huge number boost anyways.
The latest info I found was that the series had 5million back in august, I assume it should be around 6.5 million currently with 16 volumes (so 400k average per volume right now, with Haikyuu as the current "top" for recent spokon which sold what..? 1.2 mill per volume? I think Blue lock could sell around 800k per volume maybe?
So if it releases 5 volumes next year: 800,000 x 5 = 4'000,000
Plus backlog which would be around 400,000 x 16=6'400,000

Ace of Diamond sold 4.7m, Haikyuu 8.3m in 2014 which I think was their best year. But this was before Kimetsu year which itself has shown to multiply audiences, and idk I just think Blue lock has more potentianl to "explode" than Ace of diamond ever had imo.

3.- Tokyo Revengers: 9'600,000
5 volumes each selling 1'200,000 would be = 6'000,000
Backlog selling around 300k per month= 3'600,000

4.- Jujutsu Kaisen: 9'200,000
4 volumes, each selling around 1'800,000 yearly in average= 7'200,000
250,000 monthly sales for non-volume release months (so 250,000 x 8= 2'000,000)
Also there is the risk of more hiatus by the author.

5.- One piece: 9'000,000
I am assuming One Piece gets 4 volume this year, I think the last volume, 101, just released a couple of days ago, so it could be doable. Around 1'800,000 per volume x 4 =7'200,000
The remaining 1'800,000 being backlog, with the release of a new One Piece movie which seems like wil be very interestign for fans and old fans I think this backlog could be doable.

6.- Spy x family: 6'100,000
I think this will get 1'500,000 per volume with anime boost (So around 200k extra per volume backlog).
And Idk much about the series but it seems to release 3 volumes per year, so that would be 1'5m x 3 = 4'5m
8 backlog volumes x 200k = 1'600,000
4'500,000 + 1'600,000 =6'100,000
If this manga was a regular weekly release it probably would have been #1.

Can't say more about the numbers 7-10.

Other predictions (not numbered):

Mashle: 3'000,000
Assuming 5 volumes get released, right now it sells around 300k per volume, I don't think it will be farfetched for the series to get to 400k in the upcoming volumes with an anime announcement.
That would be 5 x 400k = 2'000,000, plus the other 9 volumes all getting an extra 100k would be enough for the series to get to 3'000,000 sales in 2021, though idk if that would be enough to rank 10

Demon Slayer: 2'500,000
50k weekly sales= 200k monthly salish= 2'500,000 sales

I have some questions:
Why did you guys put MHA with only 3 volumes?
Also Rouk' I see in your predictions you had Dai no daiboken (DQ, right?) do we know how much the kanzenbans sold in a year?
Did we get a Oricon list of the top 30 manga series sold in 2021? Because I can't find it.

Side note:
I had heard of Mystery, but didn't know it was by the author of Basara. So glad an author can have a popular manga even after all the years of her "prime" years. Also why is no one translating it ToT

this isnt how it works, what matters is amount of mha chapters not available in volume format, i am pretty sure they have enough for 4 volumes next year
However i can see it only being 3 volumes because they want to align the launch of the 3rd and 4th volumes of next year with the anime season that should start in october. So i can see the 4th volume being december because of that

It did, to a certain extent. We'll see how long that lasts
But that doesn't translate to the most recent volume.
Meaning more people have stopped buying the manga than have started it because of the movie.

We knew that JJK had reached its peak back during volume 17 IIRC or was it 16? I don't remember.
But I'd never use the word "disappointing" to call JJK sales, it literally sold more per volume than 99.9% of manga in Jump, which means it has sold more per volume than 99.9% of any manga ever made.

As I had said, a good chunk of new manga buyers in Japan, clearly the same wave that got "introduced" to manga by the Kimetsu wave don't have the longest attention span and just want to jump to the next hot property, which is why JJK is getting lower sales, the fad is over and this year's popular manga will get a similar boost to what JJK/TR had (though it will be a bit smaller, since the Kimetsu readers might be slowly starting to lose interest in reading new manga or something).

Some people on forums and stuff said that the movie would give it a boost to volume sales, and I was kind of hesitant, like.. Idk maybe? But then again maybe people would just prefer to continue watching season 2 over reading the material? I guess it looks like people prefer to wait for the anime.

I doubt JJK will reach higher sales per volume than it did pre-volume 16, I mean that I think it reached its peak in volume 16. Some manga had had "second peaks", like One Piece during Strong World/Paramount war, back in 2009-ish. My Hero Academia just had its biggest year too right? Likely some Kimetsu fans giving one of the most "recent" WSJ big-hitters a chance. But I don't see JJK hitting a second peak, but maybe time will prove me wrong, who knows.

We knew that JJK had reached its climax back during volume 17 IIRC or was it 16? I don't remember.
But I'd never use the word "disappointing" to call JJK sales, it literally sold more per volume than 99.9% of manga in Jump, which means it has sold more per volume than 99.9% of any manga ever made.

Yes, I understand what Warlord meant. I still just wanted to point the irony of calling literally a .0001 percenter of the industry disappointing, while most mangaka scratch-that, manga magazines.. Actually, also scratch-that.. Entire publishers will die without ever making a fraction of what Gege will end up making with JJK.

As for disappointing sales... I am, for example, disappointed that One Piece doesn't sell more especially to the generation that has "only" read KnY or Jjk. (I know I have already discussed this, so I won't talk about it anymore).

But to be honest, I can't be disappointed at One Piece sales, I am more amazed by them because of this fact: One Piece volume 24 broke a record that Slam Dunk had had for quite a while, a 1st printing of 2.5 million per volume, that was back in 2002.

Now, in 2022, two decades and 80 volumes later, One Piece volumes end up selling around... What? 2million? So, of course it has lost the steam it had in its peak years of selling around 4million+ per volume, but 2million is impressive, it was a record-breaking sum 20 years ago.

Also, you mean currently serialized right, because KnY and even DB might have sold more per volume than OP.
