Warning, WSJ_Manga's 2019 tweet contains a couple mistakes : The number written for SxF is actually Slam Dunk's. SxF in 2019 was 754,067. Chainsaw Man's number only includes 3 volumes, and is missing v4.

But clearly, it struggles a lot to keep its readership.
It has gained about 1m units per volume since volume 15, but this one didn't even do 100k more in its first week (and with 3 more days)

Any possible theories as to the reasoning? I suppose the next season of the anime could give it a boost, but even KnY's second season didn't boost it *that* much and I doubt the Shibuya arc can provide a bigger boost than the Red Light District arc did for KnY.

I more meant to stabilize it, I guess. The Shibuya arc is cited as being the best arc of the series, and that's what season 2 will cover.

If that doesn't stabilize it, I don't think anything will.

I have been calling it for more than a year. The next big series after Kimetsu would get a boost by people that got into the Kimetsu hype train. These aren't exactly your normal manga readers in most cases, just "normal" people that recently got into a trend. My take: Lots of people get off the hype train because they were never really loyal/that interested to the story, just wanted to fit in, reading something popular.

Also, it doesn't help that the arc after Shibuya is not as great IMO.

You're coming off an insanely hyped arc full holy shit moments for something that's a lot more deliberate, featuring a ton of new characters and is only really getting started. I imagine season 2 will draw a lot of people back in considering the content is covering.

While I do think that was happening to an extent, I think you're not giving JJK enough credit. Of course, while Tokyo Revengers didn't get as big of a boost as JJK, it's shown way more stability. This problem that JJK is having of retaining readership seems to be specific to JJK, and not something that we can view elsewhere.

I've no doubt the animated Shibuya arc will see a boost, and even get readers to (temporarily) return. The issue is if it'll retain readership afterwards.

For whatever reason, relative to other series with huge boosts, JJK specifically is losing readers volume over volume. There has to be a reason. Perhaps it's as you said and it's just because the stuff after Shibuya has been more deliberate, etc.

yeah i agree, AoT basically maintein the same sales level for three years, and without any anime after the first season, OP idem, KNY was on an upper trend every volume, probably one of the series with the less difference of sale beetween the first and the final volume, also Tokyo revengers seems to have a establisced base, also dropping, but really not that much, maybe for JJK the boost was to hight and to much hype based, but anyway with the right plan i'd say that will still be the first for average copies sold for volume for this year, with the variables of Spy x Family and OP, the first thanks to the anime, the boost level is still pretty unknown, is a serie for everyone so can be also very hight, for One Piece the Wano end and the OP film Red can regain some readers, if it would return with stability to 2.5 million by volume it would be gold
