Finally Kimetsu out of the top 10.

With Jujutsu Kaisen's popularity/sales diminishing I think One Piece has a very good chance of finally getting back its #1 spot even with Shibuya arc anime adaptation (I don't think JJK will get another huge boost). Is there any other potential contenders aside from Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsawman for 2023?

Also, the kimetsu effect has been getting lower and lower for new mangas to get boosts. The immediate one after Kimetsu was JJK which got the most of it, then Tokyo Revengers, now Chainsawman, I do not think whatever manga gets to be the hot new property of 2023 will get super good boosts like the previous titles, so I don't think the new hot title will get to #1 like Kimetsu and then JJK did in previous years.

Solid showing for Kaiju No. 8 and strong numbers for a Jump+ series. I know some Western readers have cooled on it a little but it does seem to have staying power in Japan. I'm expecting a pretty big boost when the anime comes out.

The fact they this doesn't mention worldwide or digital, that 78M is a former HxH circulation number and that, as you mentionned, 50M was being used so recently makes this a likely mistake.

My Hero Academia reahed 85mill copies worldwide! I guess with the newer Jump successes I forgot about MHA.

Do we know Jujutsu Kaisen's total sales as of right now? iir it had like 55 million or something back in volume 16 (I remember because there was sort of a big deal back when that was announced because it had surpassed One Piece total sales at that same volume).

Anyways, I will make some predictions:
1.- MHA will get to 100million worldwide. That's a safe bet.
2.- MHA will end up surpassing Jujutsu Kaisen's total numbers worldwide. (I know MHA has like almost twice the volumes of JJK, but JJK sales have been declining so much in Japan and other countries too from what I have seen.)

My reasoning for this: I had said two years ago that whatever series ended up becoming popular after Kimetsu ended would get a huge boost but it would be a fad, and I think JJK is. (No hate for either KnY or JJK, but sales-wise the decline in Japan for JJK is something you would expect from a series that has been running for quite some time, but in the span of a year it lost like what 30% of its readers from its peak?) You could say the same about Tokyo Revengers but that ended already. Chainsawman right now is being compared to these two but it was obvious from the get go it would have a diminished readership because the Kimetsu fans simply are probably bored at this point of reading manga. So Chainsawman is a hit, but you can't have the same expectations than the other series. I expect lower sales for this year in Japan and heck.. Maybe if the live action has an impact in Japan, for One Piece to finally recover its throne.

It's kind of weird that My Hero Academia reacherd 85 million so fast (After the 65mill announcement last year, that means 20 million in a year-ish), iirc the last circulation numbers were like a year ago and it was 65million. In this sense I think My Hero also got a slight boost from the Kimetsu readership (Manga in general. especially mainstream manga, got a huge boost worldwide, I would love to know the ratio of MHA's 85 million.)

Anyways, last predictions:
3.- This will be the last year with manga selling 10million+ for a while. I don't think there is any manga with enough volumes or a boost to reach those numbers this year. Maybe One Piece could get a boost from the live action?? Who knows. But if One Piece barely hit 10mill with the OP Film Red boost, I am not sure it can hit that again this year.
4.- There will be a top 1 manga seller that's not from Shueisha in the near future. Either that or One Piece will regain its throne until it ends.
The top contestants for this year were Blue Lock and Frieren. But I think Blue lock won't be able to be #1. Frieren seems like the kind of series that could get a good anime boost, but I think it's in a hiatus right now which will hurt its sales. Also its anime might release too late to matter for this Oricon year probably.

This also leads to a question: Will we have a new anime property that becomes a worldwide success in the level of KnY or JJK with movies and stuff that are almost like "events" for fans worldwide any time soon? Or will this trend start to fall down?

I knew the anime would help but I didn't think Blue Lock would blow up like that. The timing of the anime with the world cup was incredible. A non Jump series taking the top would be interesting.

For me season 1 of JJK is pretty meh. But it was great for a gateway anime, hence its popularity. Also Kimetsu-fans just wanted something new to watch, so there was that too.
Season 2 of JJK will cover an amazing arc. But even then I think it already got its peak readership, like I don't think even with the vastly superior material Season 2 will cover that it will convert too many new watchers to readers, imo.

Yea sales are fine although not JJK/TR/KNY level. I think they should have made a profit on the anime but I hope for consistency sake that they don't end up changing the style of the anime for season 2
