Man, I do two 16 hour days at an easy job and feel wrecked. I can't imagine focusing that much 14 hours a day for a week straight.

No you don't. Because if you did, you would have empathy. And you don't. What a pathetic post.

The amount of snowflakes in this thread is fucking amazing. I wish I lived in the same dream world as you all where you get to coast through life without putting in any extra time and effort. If you don't adhere to the liberal agenda the dogpiling and name calling starts. Bunch of fucking pussies.

Unless I was getting paid like 100K plus you can fuck off, and even then I’d only do it for a short time

Moments in crunch like this just speak to me that either you are a horrifically poorly run studio and you probably have some dipshit higher ups who have no idea about game development and are trying to reach stupid goals

In my experience, plenty of people like it there, and even more people like everything there except for the crunch (which is a common sentiment at crunch-culture-dominated game studios).
That is something positive I guess but it still doesn't really address the WTD rules that in my own experience have been taken very seriously at all the places I've worked here in England. They offer the option to sign the waiver but there is zero pressure to do so. I'm talking minimum wage unskilled warehouse/driving/order picking type jobs here.

I just can't fathom anyone being "forced" or pressured to do 100 hour weeks in a EU work place never mind a perceived prestigious company like CDPR.

Working over 60, 70, 100 hours every single week for months isn’t healthy nor should there be anyone defending it.
Bye.

No cures for cancer are being found over there. It's just a game. They need to delay and return their team to a normal schedule.

I want to use this information Jason gave us, to make a point:

Absolutely there are gonna be tons of developers that enjoy working at CD Projekt Red, and it's possible that this is true and it is a great place to work. Though, people that throw this point in the face of criticism of crunch, are idiots. That isn't the point, and is moving the goal-post. There are tons of developers that enjoy where they work that hate crunch particularly because they aren't okay with being exploited. They aren't okay with the culture that is permeated by executives. There is nuance here, and crunch isn't individualized to one studio, it is a culture that has found its way into almost every development studio developing a AAA title.

Why is it wild. It's not like any of them have even the slightest shred of integrity. They're nothing more the ad people. Shit ones at that.

I once worked on a project for my work where I put myself into a crunch period. I managed that project and only involved one other person in the development of it (thankfully, I told him to log the fuck out at the end of each business day). For a period of about 2 weeks, I think I was pulling 80 - 100 hour weeks . It was HORRIBLE

Stress constantly. Days just melding together. Launch day coming up faster and faster. I was burned out for months afterwards and can only realize the impact that project had on me in hindsight.

My heart goes out to any dev out there going through crunch. 2 weeks was hell, and makes you feel like your life span diminished just a bit. I can't imagine what doing that for months on end is like :(

This is Investments Banking level of hours, but those guys are looking at a fat salary and bonuses, which I'm pretty sure a regular game dev would not get.

The only time I've done anything close to those sorts of hours on a continuous basis was the last 2-3 weeks of my dissertation... and I was physically and mentally a wreck at the end of that. I can't imagine doing those sorts of hours for months at a time.

Just to be clear, that's 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, from 9am to midnight (assuming an hour's break over that period for food, etc).

Insane.

I sometimes do 50 or 60 hours a week and doing 100 hours IS NOT THE SAME.
I worked an entire February once with no days off where I was averaging 10 hours a day (Sundays were typically only 2-3 hours so the rest of the days had more than 10). It wrecked me. Agreed at 50/60 not the same universe as 100. A body just isn't built to do that.

I specifically was referring to a smaller Internet personality who's not quite at the influencer level. Granted, you're right, it's pretty clear that these people are still without integrity.

The larger influencer people are a whole other level of awful.

I work my ass off at my job, grew up poor, still don't make too much with a college degree and 14 years of experience. So, by your take, I should be on your side. Well, turns out I'm not and I think you're a big pile of shit. Fucking pussy.
I am on the side of the devs and the engineers on this issue but JFC this board has really become something else. I don't know how mods handwave reactions delivered this way regardless if I agree on principles. Era was supposed to be a move away from NeoGaf toddler stuff like this. For pete's sake....

Sounds batshit crazy in that workplace. Still, those Polish mad lads don't seem to mind it lol? At least the overtime hours are actually paid. Sucks that there's peer pressure to work non-stop though.

That sentiment is also common at large tech companies / well-funded tech startups, where they feed you breakfast/lunch/dinner and give you perks as a more-subtle incentive to stay onsite more, and implicitly do more work.

It's usually not to the same degree as crunch in gaming development, but there's a reason "Work Hard Play Hard" is a common startup meme that's a red flag.

Seems as though a fair number of them do mind it unfortunately. Plus the ones that don’t have an adverse affect on the ones that do.

So..... why don't delay it 3 months and give people a normal life? Come on, the game is gold, wtf. If they trying to sell it and optimizing the game for next gen, just delay it. Period.
Also, I imagine they are being paid overtime, banking time, or being compensated in some other way. Everyone is so quick to dogpile on CDPR. If you don't like them or their practices don't buy their products.
Unpopular opinion however if you want to be the best it takes lots and lots and lots of hours.... i have my own business and i spent the best part of 2 years working 7 days a week for 14 hours a day, it pays off to put the effort it.

CD-Projeckt have already said that i think 10% of their annual profits will go to their employees, now say they have 1500 employees and this game makes $20 million (that is extremely conservation figure) all the employees will get nearly $13k each ontop of their normal salary.

It pays to put the effort in
Unfortunately we live in a capitalist society and that's not going to change. Either adapt or just lay down. No one said it's supposed to be easy.
Poland is in the EU so doesn't the working time directive apply? It means each individual would need to sign away their right to work more than 48 hours/week AFAIK.

But if it is bad as reported they need to band together and come out in public. CDPR also seem to have some higher profile employees there....Have any of these ever expressed any concerns about working conditions?
This is common in a lot of jobs, transit, policing, business, nursing, basically almost every job. It still sucks.
We did it everyone! We got DOUBLE bingo! Great job!

We had "mandatory" overtime at my job for maybe a month or two. It did nothing to improve our numbers and ruined morale. It was not done after that.

People who think crunch or mandatory overtime is effective management can eat shit.
