I hope it doesn't mess with Dragon Age, just focus on that, make it successful, then do your ME attempt again. Bioware is rebooting Anthem too?

If its a tiny team, like for DA4, that basically got no recourses for 4 years, well, see you in 10 years

While it is hard to fathom just how spectacularly they bungled such a beloved franchise in recent history, the words "new Mass Effect" will always get me extremely excited due to this universe giving me some of my all-time favorite moments in gaming and the absurd potential of a new Mass Effect "done right."

Who knows what will ultimately come of this, but it's for sure one of my most anticipated games going forward and I can't wait to hear more.

Make the indoctrination theory canon you cowards!
While most fan theories suck and virtually no major company would ever use one for their story, I secretly dream that one day they do a proper full on remake of the trilogy and redo the ending with this instead and sprinkle in hints throughout all three games to further support it.

It's hard to even get remotely interested in anything Bioware does anymore, and I say that as a huge Mass Effect fan. Felt so burned by Andromeda and Anthem that I just don't have any faith in them anymore until they finally deliver a game worth playing again.

Wasn't for the synthesis ending, they could just set 300y in the future where Shepard is just a legend or something. And you could easily retcon the Geth/Destroy ending for the geth to still hang around the galaxy.

I'll give it a shot. Andromeda was a dead end for me, but I love the universe and Bioware still have some good faith from me as their legacy meant so much... They've had a bad decade in terms of their downward trajectory, but it's not impossible for them to turn things around.

If they released one new game that was universally acclaimed, people would flock back to support them in droves.

Hopefully it's nothing like Andromeda when it comes to missions and world design. I found those planets becoming very boring quickly. Back to how they did it for the trilogy, please.

Given DA4 is 2022 at the earliest, and knowing that the studio is usually a one game in production at a time place, guessing if this happens we're looking at 2025 at the earliest.

Patrick Soderlund, the guy that wanted every EA studio to use Frostbite left the company one year ago.
DA4 is using Frostibite afaik but i won't be surprised if ME is using UE4 tho

Also with Respawn having jumped to UE4, I think there are chances that Bioware might just come back to Unreal.

Hopefully they can knock it out the park. Overall I liked Andromeda for what it was and thought it had a lot of potential in a sequel/building on what it did well (I want them to commit to a ending of ME3 for this though, not a direct sequel to Andromeda) and the franchise still has a special place in my heart.

Awesome - replaying ME2 right now. I even really enjoyed ME3 in spite of the ending.

Andromeda is not a reflection on Bioware Edmonton. I basically just treat that like Alien Resurrection, Crystal Skull or Arrested Development beyond season 3: I pretend it doesn't exist.

I'm actually surprised they are going back to the series so soon. I thought for sure it was going to take like a full generational hiatus while they worked on Anthem, DA4, and a new IP.

Then again it's in "early development" so who knows when we'll actually see this.

Actually smart from them to use the new power of next gen for Eye Candy that will bite away from some of the premature criticism..
Still storie must better than andromeda

So Bioware's next-gen plans are looking pretty clear now:
  1. Anthem reboot, cross-gen
  2. Dragon Age 4, 2022?
  3. Mass Effect, 2024?
While most fan theories suck and virtually no major company would ever use one for their story, I secretly dream that one day they do a proper full on remake of the trilogy and redo the ending with this instead and sprinkle in hints throughout all three games to further support it.
Luckily the hints are already there! They wouldn't need to add anything except for a well-edited recap/flashback video at the end covering all the indoctrination hints already present. That way they can't really be accused of retconning anything either =)

Tone down the scale. The outer worlds proved that your space rpg doesnt need to have barren wide open planets to be engaging. Make the planets contained zones and missions like mass effect 2 and 3

True, that's a big reason why the IT is so well liked.

Considering DA4 is arriving in like 2022 or 2023 I'm not expecting this anytime soon.

Hate that I can't stop myself from being excited.

Except for the whole completely throw away main plot
ok, yeah fine, come up with a better main plot, sure!

but keep everything else that made ME2 one of the best games of that generation. the game is a solid 10/10 and every iteration since has gotten worse. go back to the drawing board and copy the things ME2 did so well, and i'm in.

Bioware just isn't doing very well right now, so I'm not optimistic. I did like the previous games (even Andromeda to an extent), so I'll give it a look at least.

An interview I listened to suggested that before Andromeda they were working on a prequel game; I wonder if they'll return to that idea.

Would like to see an Andromeda sequel that is structured closer to the trilogy but I have no expectations for an Andromeda arc continuation.

True, that's a big reason why the IT is so well liked.

Plus, they were already trying to develop a section of the end mission where Shepard does get indoctrinated, but IIRC it was cut because they couldn't figure out how to make the gameplay portion work.

Personally I'd think it'd be really cool if you chose options on the dialogue wheel, but Shepard said something totally different.

Shakeups Continue to Offset Developer Passion at BioWare
Jason Schreier, Kotaku.com
April 11th, 2022

When it was revealed three years ago that publisher Electronic Arts expected the fourth Dragon Age to launch sometime after early 2022, fans were somewhat optimistic. There was online chatter that perhaps a BioWare that took its time could deliver an entry that hearkened back to the BioWare of old. But saddled with an upper management tier that has repeatedly siphoned funds from Mark Darrah's Dragon Age team toward a prospective Mass Effect project that sources tell me is still no closer to active production than it was when I broke the news of its early development in November 2019, some developers at the storied studio behind Baldur's Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, and more are left wondering if their vision of a return to Thedas will ever reach fruition.

[...]

I hope to god I'm wrong.

Please don't let it be written by the people who wrote Andromeda and came up with such classic lines like "my face is tired" and "to whom, and your goddamn father" and also included multiple dialogue options where the main character says "we got this."

I'm not going to get my hopes up yet, but it's nice to see the series isn't completely dead.

They better stay far away from Andromeda though, go back to the Milky Way and stay there.

Give my Shep back and a happy reunion with bae garrus in mass effect 4 and I'll just throw money at you bioware.

I'm not optimistic about anything from bioware now and they where my absolute favourite studio at one point.

I hope after whats been going on between the recent games, the Schreier article from earlier in the year about the workplace and management issues that this is the opportunity for both the studio, Dragon Age and Mass effect to bounce back (and hopefully with a healthier studio work culture).

Its been pretty obvious for a year or 2 that a new Mass Effect is being made. Really hope they pull it off........

I'm hesitantly optimistic.... although I would love for EA to announce a remaster/remake of the trilogy more.

I guess I should have said that the ROI, if that's what you want to call it, has been... disappointing with those projects.
Mass Effect Andromeda was actually financially sucessful and mentioned favourably in Investor Reports. They also moved Edmonton into a new and bigger office and also aren't counting previous production periods as part of DA4's budget and letting them have til 2022-23 to release, so it suggests EA's not having any trouble giving BioWare funds.
