if there is a conspiracy afoot here, and probably there is, but it can never be provable to what the source of conspiracy is, perhaps it doesn't matter to think about the conspiracy whatsoever since the only conclusions to be drawn will be invented by your own mind which is heavily biased to begin with

I didn't know that I've gone past his island home multiple times during multiple visits to St.John. The tour guides/captains would always point it out but they never hinted at anything bad going on there.

NEW: AG Barr on the "failure to adequately secure" Jeffrey Epstein:

"We are now learning of serious irregularities at this facility that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation."

11:17 AM - Aug 12, 2019

NPR @NPR

JUST IN: Attorney General William Barr says the Department of Justice has learned of "serious irregularities" at the federal facility where Jeffery Epstein died and that the department's Inspector General will "get the bottom of what happened."

AG Barr said the sex trafficking investigation that was being conducted remains important and that it will continue.

"Any co-conspirators should not rest easy," he said.

11:24 AM - Aug 12, 2019

Barr: "Well get to the bottom of ...*checks report* 👀 *ahem* yea nothing to see here. May that serve as justice for the people he abused."

This was low-level for Barr fuckery (calling "suicide" like an hour after the death was reported, not taking buck-stops-here responsibility for the failures of the BoP, etc). Still dont trust him but also still dont think he has any ability to waylay this thing either.

better late than never, I guess

At least his death opens doors to just raiding his shit with fewer layers of protocol.

Bannon again, what a surprise.

Clear as day they love the Epstien lifestyle. Disgusting. They just want power to do whatever they want with no accountability or prosecution.

The man has connections to the CIA, organized crime and leaders in politics, buisness and media. The whole thing is fucking nuts, not being skeptical about how he was given the chance to take his own life is absurd given this is one of the most compromised people in the world

So post 2008, Epstein was apparently palling around with Woody Allen, MBS, Elon Musk, Trump, and Bannon. Bad looks for all of them. Although it is suggested that Musk's communications were limited.

Also "i sensed what he wanted was companionship" is the most insane thing I've read about Epstein so far.

One of the two people guarding Jeffrey Epstein when he apparently hanged himself in a federal jail cell was not a full-fledged correctional officer, and neither guard had checked on Mr. Epstein for several hours before he was discovered, prison and law-enforcement officials said.

Why have a substitute watching over the most important prisoner at this facility? I get that they're understaffed but surely they could have moved the substitute elsewhere and got a regular to step in. Unless they had absolutely no one else, but that doesn't seem likely. Not like the other guard did his job either though so it may not have helped.

AP also reporting:

A person familiar with operations at the federal jail where Jeffrey Epstein killed himself says one of the two people guarding him the night he died wasn't a correctional officer.
The person wasn't authorized to disclose information about the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The person said Epstein hanged himself with a bedsheet, days after being taken off a suicide watch.
Federal prisons facing shortages of fully trained guards have resorted to having other types of support staff fill in for correctional officers, including clerical workers and teachers.
Jail policy called for guards to check Epstein every 30 minutes, but investigators have learned those checks weren't done for several hours in the hours before he was discovered Saturday.
That's according to a second person who was not authorized to discuss the matter and also spoke on condition of anonymity.

I'd actually find it more likely that he's still alive and out there somewhere as a ghost than to believe he was able to off himself

Eh. I mean you have CEO's and rich people kill themselves in stock crashes, this is worse. It's not a stretch to believe that he'd be suicidal. It's suspect as fuck that such an important prisoner wasn't looked at properly.

Really hope all the evidence they got on him leads to a lot of people being taken down.

Also, how the hell do you lock him in a room with options to kill himself?

Oh, look, underfunding and understaffing these places can have disastrous consequences, who could've fucking guessed.

The augmentation is quite common; they have to pull from other non-correction posts (HR, counselor, nurse, and etc.) because of manning issues. Technically, everyone goes down to FLETC and receives the same training, so they are qualified to do it. However, there is a huge difference between someone who works solely in corrections compared to one of the support or admin positions. The person working corrections knows the job inside and out, while the others don't. Inmates know this too, they'll try to manipulate and lie to them because the augmented don't really know the ins and outs of a unit. It would be no different than taking a corrections officer and making them a nurse for a shift. Could they probably do it? Yes, they seen it done before, but they aren't experienced and something will probably go wrong. Corrections is mostly about experience, there are thing you can't learn at FLETC and it just comes with doing the job.

However, that is just the nature of the job. You are overworked and underappreciated. That's why the career field has high turnover and suicide rates. Prison is hell for everyone there.

Even with these places being underfunded and understaffed, you would think that this particular case would have been a special one.
Oh, absolutely. Ignoring all the conspiracy theories, this whole thing is a demonstration of horrifying incompetence and rampant mismanagement of the system.

My first instinct would be, as a legislator, would be to look at this incident and the context surrounding it, and ask 1) why was Epstein not handled as a special case in terms of guarding and suicide prevention, 2) who is the fucking dumbass who supposedly decided it would be a great idea to take him off suicide prevention and why, and 3) why is there an understaffing and overwork issue in prisons/correction facilities (probably due to overcrowded prisons due to the war on drugs, which we really should be looking at ending because it's gotten us fucking nowhere) and how can it be fixed.

The New York City Fire Department is investigating whether a first responder posted about Jeffrey Epstein's death on a notorious internet message board prior to officials announcing it to the public, BuzzFeed News has learned.

Less than 40 minutes before ABC News first reported Epstein's death on Twitter, someone posted still-unverified details on 4chan, the anonymous message board popular with far-right trolls and white nationalists.

"[D]ont ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this," read the post, which was published at 8:16 AM alongside an image of Pepe, the green frog that has become a mascot for the right-wing internet trolls.

That post was 38 minutes before the first tweet about Epstein's death was from Aaron Katersky, an ABC News reporter, at 8:54 AM. Five minutes later, the main ABC News account tweeted an article about Epstein's death.

After publishing the post, other 4chan users egged on the author. When they said they didn't believe that the information was true, the original poster added more information to the discussion thread, including a detailed breakdown of the procedures allegedly used to resuscitate Epstein, which suggest the poster may have been a first responder, medical worker, or otherwise privy to details about efforts to resuscitate the disgraced financier.

Frank Gribbon, a Deputy Commissioner for FDNY, told BuzzFeed News he "could not verify the accuracy" of information in the 4chan post. But he said any medical professional who divulges patient information without consent is in violation of a federal health privacy law, HIPPA, and that FDNY will investigate.

"The department will review this incident," he said.

I don't believe this "understaffed" nonsense. Did you see the kind of shit they pulled for El Chapo? They shut down bridges in New York and shit to transport him. If Epstein wasn't high profile, explain how Acosta, the Secretary of Labor, had to resign over convicting him a decade ago because he didn't convict him enough.

House cleaning's starting.
The top official at the New York prison that had housed Jeffrey Epstein before his apparent suicide is being moved temporarily as the FBI and the Justice Department's inspector general investigate the circumstances of the death.

Two employees at the Metropolitan Correctional Center who had been assigned to Epstein's unit are also being placed on administrative leave, Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said, adding that "additional actions may be taken as the circumstances warrant."

Who is this person? And if true, I'd love to hear how we should continue to say how expected this was given how overworked, lazy and incompetent all the guards are.
