so i just finished steel ball run. boy that final fight sure is something, huh?

Also man, it's crazy how much more powerful The World seems when a villain is using it. No shade on Jotaro, he's just always in the worst possible situation to actually look cool using it. (by design, of course) Anyways when the golden boi showed up i smiled a bunch. I think this will be great when adapted, but the fact that Lucy spends most of her time AUDIBLY panting in seductive fragile poses is going to become even more uncomfortable. I'm glad she got the killshot, tho.
too bad some folks think that the killshot = part fixed got i should leave reddit

I also love The world fight but so many people dread it lol

I wanna hear your impressions on jojolion now +_+

speaking of the SteelBolion-iverse, I finally looked up stuff on exactly how these two relate to the others. Turns out they don't, at all! My thought on that is that it's good those characters can finally rest, and good for making thing continually unexpected and conforming to new rules in the future. I'm going to have to re-read it with that as the lens, though, because i was trying to work out the logistics of so many things making sense as more than just references and parallels. Shout out to alternate Speedwagon for getting insanely rich, the one true constant across all time and space and everything in between.

At least you didn’t read it like i did thinking the world reset erased all of jojo...
Reading sbr while thinking all of bucci’s gang’s efforts were in vain because pucci ruined the universe was so damn painful lol
i think you’re the only one still catching up for now, Calvarok, you can drop the spoiler tags for everything before last chapters of jojolion xD

I honestly thought there was a frontier between the male and female quarters, and he was just allowed to move more freely between the two because the guards were corrupt. But I haven't read part 6 in ages.

little unrelated, Im reading Purple Haze Feedback. I think a few of the inconsistencies with stuff the anime did its own take on could be adapted into some fitting scenes if they ever make an OVA of it. and the vision for the mechanics of how Giorno actually took control is amazing, as well as the premise for the "mission".

Also the fact that Fugo can apparently play the piano and did so in bars for 6 months after golden wind... cmon. the anime has made that so much more fitting than the author could have guessed

Also that scene isn't a disrespect of Transgendered people.

That's the reality of transgendered people in prison.

They absolutely, to this day, still house transgender people based on their birth gender and refer to them as such. That's 100% real to life.

It might not be good, but it's not intentional slander. I don't expect Araki to idealize the prison system.

I feel like the prison had very loose rules that Araki broke whenever it was convenient.

Honestly part 8 is kind of disappointing in terms of female representation so far. Sure, women are more active in part 8 and make up a larger portion of the cast. At the same time, they’re still very sexualized (especially Daiya who’s like 16), often end up in creepy scenarios (which I get is Araki showing that the people who put them in those situations are evil, but still), and are practically window dressing 90% of the time outside of Yasuho. It’s kind of at the point where they feel like waifus of the week since Araki gives them one chance to shine and then tosses them on the back burner with the rest of the supporting cast in part 8.

Kyo jobbed to Damo and has mostly stood around otherwise. Daiya spouts meme lines about pancakes and jobbed to both Damo and Poor Tom. Hato jobbed to Poor Tom and gets into fun sibling rivalry arguments with her shit brother. Karera also vanished from the plot after appearing in the Damo flashback chapters as a plot device to help Kira and Josefumi escape. Kaato is currently busy being menacing in the background.

Yasuho is often put into uncomfortable situations (shitlord Joshu nearly raping her during Paper Moon King, Dr. Wu nearly invading her body via her vagina) but is still depicted as capable (Blue Hawaii). Despite her early presentation during the Dr. Wu fight, Mitsuba actually had some character growth beyond being obsessed with her appearance which was nice.

I mean, it seems like Araki will hopefully revisit some of the supporting characters considering the recent return of a certain minor cast member, but as of now, part 8’s depiction of women leaves a lot to be desired. I really don’t get a lot of the praise the part gets on that front, especially when you compare them to a character like Jolyne.

The difference is, that's all supporting characters in Jojo, and Joylne is THE protagonist.

Ain't nobody was ever going to get what jolyne got. Not even the other women in part 6 get what Jolyne gets, cause she's the lead and they aren't.

and how many side characters get sidelined in the earlier parts? it's a common thread throughout jojo that some people are let down by the screentime their favourites get

i still want the ladies of jojolion to get some of the spotlight that jolyne got tho because Born This Way is a kickass stand

I mean, compared to the supporting cast of parts 6 and 7, they still haven’t done much. By this point, other characters had already done more.

Ermes’s personal subplot ended with Limp Bizkit, but she still had her own personal fight (Highway to Way) beforehand and was relevant a few times (mainly the FF fight) before being largely unimportant for the rest of the part.
FF had their own story arc, participated in a few fights, went up against Pucci, and has one of the best deaths in the series.
Hot Pants had her own personal fight alongside Lucy (Tubular Bells) beyond her introduction in Mandom. She jobbed to Civil War, but still was relevant going into the final conflict with Valentine.
Even Anasui was relevant after his introductory arc. To be fair, Joshu is the Anasui of part 8 in more ways than one, so I guess there’s that.

Hot Pants is probably the best comparison due to SBR’s monthly format, though, and so far none of JJL’s female supporting cast members have done nearly as much as she did. Supporting cast members in SBR are sort of weird in general and it’s difficult to compare them to other supporting cast members. The only one who feels comparable to other supporting cast members beyond Hot Pants is Mountain Tim, who is about as relevant as some JJL characters. Overall, it just feels like Araki’s regressed a bit. Yasuho is a main character probably has as much screen time and relevance as Lucy. It seems like she won’t end up as a damsel in distress, which is a nice step up from Lucy. She definitely feels more capable than Lucy was, and is presented better than most of the other female characters in JJL, too.

PHF deserved an OVa for how well integrated on the part it is xD

yeah, and how many women are there in other jojo parts and how are they represented? Or even in anime in general :/

We won’t get another jolyne so soon, but i’m trying to judge araki vs araki here x-x i really like how he wrote Mitsuba, as moms aren’t usually the ones getting fights in jojo.

I’d take a wild guess and say the amount of named women in jojolion are equal to the amount of named women in all previous parts of jojo together o- o

Abbachio’s friend spelled out the whole purpose of the part, and that chapter still makes me cry like a lil baby

Also
the giorno tease in SO was so fucking cruel.
Yea I got a little misty eyed when I watched that part again before typing my post. When I first read the Giorno tease I fucking fanboi'd out so hard thinking what was gonna happen because I hadn't heard anything about Giorno appearing in part 6. Fuuuuu

The alternate reality Dio in SBR was some awesome fan service tho

I really enjoy reading everyone's take on representation here, good stuff. Fuck Mountain Tim. It's kind of weird because there's an line from the Gorgeous Irene page that says

admits to be embarrassed of Irene's character since it reflects his "ignorance of women" during his youth, portraying stereotypes and even brief nudity. He was only able to realize this prior to his marriage.

Do you guys think JoJo is too fucking weird to get someone who doesn’t watch anime into it? You’ve got anime like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop that a nonanime viewer can probably enjoy just fine, but JoJo? Shit’s weird. I’m not sure they’d get past the posing.

nah dude, it was far easier for me to get into than most times ive tried with other anime. i liked the original gundam because it was literally just a classic war movie with robots, but contemporary anime really puts me off. Jojo feels like it embraces the absurdity of such anime/manga and uses it more knowingly and intentionally exaggerates it. it's so easy to step into it from second one because it's not asking you to take it seriously, you just kind of slip into that over time despite it.

EDIT: also one of the subtly infectious things about jojo is its genuine interest in things other than itself. history, different cultures, ways of living. so few anime set in the real world feel like they have so much respect for and interest in it.

EDIT2:
Purple Haze Feedback complete. Shit fuckin owns. Adapting it would require some extra care to find places for some of the inner dialogue so it doesn't feel overbearing, but what's there is worth it for that extra effort. The author understands both the philosophical and martial aspects of jojo, and the fights rival many of the ones from the actual series. I really like the way he rendered the characters, and some of the choices he made for how they turned out. It would be great to have this accepted as canon; there's no reason I can think of it wouldn't fit. (other than some of the inconsistencies with how the anime filled in some of the blanks of fugo's backstory that weren't in the manga. however these are minor and could easily be adapted into other scenes with a slightly different context.)

EDIT3: I finished the introductory chapters of the miraculous 4-baller. yeah, i'll keep readin that

PHF made Don Giorno and i love how the anime aligned his character to that version of him. I didn’t nptice how menacing the kid got in the manga, and always assumed he was scary because PHF is mostly Fugo’s POV, now I can see it happening from any POV lol, also Mista showing his smart side and being menacing while still feeling like Mista, and though I dislike some aspects of her character design, Sheila E. Is really fun to read, you gotta be crazy to talk to fugo like that LOL

The original stands really rock, too, i hope they adapt that thing to see these fights animated :/

Jojolion really caught me by the intro once the curse was mentioned, idk, i like that kind of mistery i guess xD

Oh boy, Giorno was so smug throwing that comment.
I like to think Tonio is the new chef at Bucci’s restaurant, no other explanation for giorno to be munching all that chicken like that, considering he hates that kind of meat according to his bio, that reminded me of okuyasu eating spicy pasta lol

not to get ahead of myself, but seeing the setting of part 8 has gotten me thinking about what id want for 9 as a setting.

i think I want to go way back. ancient history, Ancient Africa and Egypt. Starring of course our hero: Jobari Ojobe, and his friend Atika Avdol. Plainly speaking, an all or mostly black cast would be dope as hell, as would delving into the mysteries of the SteelBallioniverse's origins of stands. (Or something completely different before any stand meteors had ever hit the earth).

I also like the idea of not being limited to going forwards in time any more, even within the same world

Stands in the Army.

Do it Araki.
which era? civil war? modern global conflicts?

Edit: a revisiting of world war 2 but in the midst of the actual conflicts woule be interesting

EDIT2: got to California King Bed. Really not stoked about all the underage softcore porn shots. Just when I was feeling happy that Yasuho is of age and seems set up to be a fairly wholesome love interest. Based on what i've been told about certain dark shit from steel ball repeating, I guess this isn't the worst of it.

oh you know what, thats right, that is her name. the hat still seems like a reference tho, and fits too well with her being descended from holly. i noticed yasuho right away, but I don't think of okuyasu as anything but that.

wait, what exactly did he say? i know a lot of the aspects of characters are references to past ones, but not in every aspect. does this mean he's saying that each character is a direct counterpart? ah well, i might be interpeting more off how they chose to color the hat than anything.

Wasn’t much, just how she is okuyasu’s counterpart and a bit about his thought process, but it was a video so it’s hard to find it again :/

He fits better name wise but the whole "I have to save my mom who's sick" does it for me, besides it's sounds crazier to say "Yoshikage Kira is Jotaro" lol

Hold the fucking phone...did Polnareff say yaye yare da(ze) before Jotaro did?

I'm rewatching SC and unless I missed it Jotaro first says it at the end of the Polnareff meeting, with Polnareff saying it first during the fight.

Kyo is basically just female Jotaro using Okuyasu’s last name to hide her identity from the Higashikata family. She definitely has Jotaro’s personality.

Kira is also Jotaro, both in personality and his role as an older brother figure and mentor to Josefumi. Josefumi is one of the many Josukes in part 8.

I guess that makes Damo and the A.Phex Twins the Ratt equivalent, at least in the flashback. Kira tries to save the day but gets hit by a projectile and leaves everything up to Josefumi. Didn’t turn out so well this time

you'd think everyone would be josuke but no they're all Jotaros
