I don't get why people think Doomguy or MK characters are viable. No playable character has ever come from a western dev, and that likely won't change. Shovel Knight and Shantae are western developed games that closely mimic the Japanese style, so those are exceptions, and even then they are assist trophies and spirits.

Banjo is the one exception to the rule that might happen simply because of Rare's relationship with Nintendo up until the GameCube era.
That's exactly why it needs to happen. Smash needs Western representation or it's going to be stuck as one of those eccentric Japanese games. It'll sell like crazy but it will be a poor representation of Nintendo's global appeal.

That said I don't think Doomguy will happen, but a Mortal Kombat character would be great. Blood and gore aside, Smash and MK have a lot in common. Like massive singleplayer content.

Doomguy has a great chance. Bethesda has already spoken with Nintendo about Smash.

Single player content is kind of meaningless (as if that gives MK a better chance to be in Smash). Doomguy should be in over anyone from Mortal Kombat.

All characters owned by Nintendo.
You said developed by, not owned by.

This is the thing I hate about Smash character discussions. People make up rules for their inclusion, but when someone points out those rules already don't make sense when considering the current roster, people move their goalposts to fit their made-up rules against.

It's a crime that a Mortal Kombat character hasn't joined the fight yet. They've been on Nintendo consoles since the SNES. Hell the Mythologies of Sub Zero were recorded on the N64. The Deadly Alliance shocked the world on the Gamecube. Armageddon was unleashed on the Wii! Yeah I know, it's an INJUSTICE that Mortal Kombat wasn't on the Wii U but, Mortal Kombat 11 is going to right that wrong next year.

Midway was also a big partner during the N64 days. N64 is my favorite system probably because of "more western" it is. It had both Doom and MK.

I don't see why both can't get in. There can be more DLC after the first 5. Lol

It was implicit in what I said. No goalpost was moved. Nintendo owns those characters/IP, so by default they're fair game. Doesn't matter who developed the games they were in. Rare, Monster Games, etc.

"There will never be a 3rd party character in Smash!"
Snake gets in
"There will never be a character whose main game hasn't been on Nintendo consoles"
Cloud gets in.
"There will never be a raunchy violent character who is very forward about her sexuality!"
Bayonetta gets in.

I've seen this happen many, many times. Unless Sakurai comes out and says it, this "Western characters won't make it to Smash" is a dumb rule.

That's exactly what Smash is.

Maybe an Assassin's Creed character? Given MK's... lack of prominence in Japan I would be very surprised if they got a character.

I'd rather like Amaterasu tbh.
Great OST, great stage, insanely huge moveset potential.
Oh sure, pretty neat.

Resident Evil though... Leon with suplexes, flashbangs, kicks, his knife, would be neat. Depending on his iteration, his Final Smash would either be Ada assisting (RE2) or Mike the pilot swooping in his chopper (RE 4)

As for stages, the RPD station with Lickers and Mr. X as guess appearences. Or the village from RE 4 with Ganados randomly attacking and El Gigante showing his ugly mug.

Leon should come with a bonus Jill Valentine echo.

Their moveset could revolve around the RE1 grenade launcher this way (similar to how Simon borrows stuff from Richter's game), and you could have an inventory management mechanic where you manage different round types (flame, nitrogen, acid).

Their Up B recovery could make a murder of crow appear, which carry you back to the stage and peck at your enemies.

You could have moves where you sidestep a lunging monster like a Hunter or a Licker that then hits your opponent instead.

Using the stun baton from RE5 would be great for Smash Attacks, but of course there's no shortage of melee moves to use.

This is some good stuff right here

So what will Joker's symbol be? It has to be one representative of it's franchise as a whole instead of the specific game, so the Phantom Thieves top hat logo is out. I think there's one of two options. They could call it representative of the broader Megami Tensei franchise as a while, so in that case:

However I doubt that, as I think it will represent the franchise it's actually from, Persona. Therefore I think the symbol is likely to be this:

It's a thing that's been consistent on the whole Persona series, and isn't necessarily the P5 style masks.

I've always thought that if a Persona character got into Smash they would use the symbol on the back of the tarot cards.

so ya the second one is my bet

So I'm guessing the stage for challenger pack 1 will either be the casino from the beginning of the game or the Velvet Room. Either would be really cool, but I'm rooting for the casino.

the Megami Tensei logo might be too ornate for a smash icon. they could always go with a stylized "SMT" like they did FF, SF, DK, etc. but Persona isn't SMT. then again, NIntendo explicitly referenced Persona as a spinoff

I am betting on it.Yokai Watch being as successful as it is in Japan plus Level 5 having a good relationship with Nintendo
My god if true I'd be ecstatic. Bandana Dee seems out of the running, and Disney is a roadblock for Sora, so Jibanyan is my last dream character. Saw a moveset online of him working in collaboration with Whisper which would be too perfect and incredibly unique.

Wouldn't be the hype level of Joker, but Jibanyan would fit right in imo.

I don't think Disney would be so difficult. especially now that Nintendo is publishing a Marvel game and Disney is pretty open to collaborations

They could just use the P5 cover logo like they did in the trailer.
Depends if they're gonna have stuff from other games in there. Naoto spirit is necessary. Naoto spirit fight with Lucina is just too easy.

I don't see any western characters making it in. Only Diddy and K.Rool are the exceptions at this point in terms of characters, and they're tied to Donkey Kong.

A western 3rd party (no matter who they are) would be a pretty big pop considering how ground breaking that would be for the franchise.

So what will Joker's symbol be?

I think it'll be the mask on the back of the Persona cards, the one you posted a picture of. It's the only image consistent across the series.
