This one's probably up there in terms of most surprising game announcements of 2018. Even if one expected him as a character in SSBU, no one predicted that TGA would be the venue for it. It took everyone by surprise, and made for some genuine reactions of shock for many. It was really cool to see.

Now that I have had time to digest it, I'm not really liking this pick when we could have had better representatives including people from SMT. Now we have people unironically predicting 2-B from Nier, Goku from Dragonball Z, Dante from DMC, etc. and none of these characters have ever appeared on a Nintendo console ever. Like it's madness lol.

There's a giant fucking chasm of difference between an Atlus/Sega rep so many of the other picks that people have been throwing out since Thursday. People are so hung up on "OMG PERSONA 5 IS PS4 EXCLUSIVE!!!!!!" that they're jumping to implausible conclusions for no good reason.
Guys, gals... What if his stage has Phantom Thieves conversations?! Persona 5 is EXTREMELY dialogue heavy. Conversations would be PERFECT! Have it work like the Star Fox conversations so there's a good assortment of random dialogue for any situation.

The fact they got at least four voice actors in just for a reveal trailer, pretty recently too I'd wager, makes me think something like this is pretty likely. Though I figure they'd want Futaba in there given her role in P5. I guess Morgana works too though.
I reckon we'll get all of the Phantom Thieves as Spirits at least, but I wouldn't hold out hope for more Persona representation outside of 5.
The one thing I have against characters like Doom Slayer, Sub Zero, Scorpion, and Leon is can they do the characters justice without the gore/realistic weapons. I mean maybe Sub Zero but Mortal Kombat has never been popular in Japan.
Wow. I didn't think that would ever be a thing. Get more exposure for Persona 5, that game was a true work of art in every way.
Doom weapons are all over the top powerful. As long as they keep the punch, it should be fine

I would love his smash to be an "all-out attack" where the whole gang shows up and we see the silhouette of every character caught in it getting beat up.
But, it will probably be an ability of his Persona instead.

When Cloud got initials of Final Fantasy instead of 7's meteor, it gave the impression that other FF characters could appear later on in 4.
That didn't happen.
Figure they'll just use the P5 symbol unless one of the character packs is another FF character which could mean they would use a broad meaning symbol.
They have a lot of choices.
Kimishima's Castle, the Bank and Futaba's Pyramid are all iconic.
My favorite would be the underground. It would change from the real life underground to the corrupted one.
Regular Attacks: Short-range knife attacks
Neutral Special: Gun - Fast-moving projectile that can trip people up if multiple hits are landed
Side Special: Eiha - Slow-moving projectile that causes damage over time if it hits
Down Special: Cleave - Similar to Zelda's Phantom move but with Arsene instead of a Phantom
Up Special: Super Jump - Just a big jump, the kind you see in a lot of contextual stuff in P5.
Final Smash: All-Out Attack - Morgana, Anne and Ryuji join in for an all-out-attack
How about Shibuya? Have it morph between regular Shibuya and the Shibuya from the Bank Palace or even just a corrupted version of Shibuya.
To be fair, Cloud didn't get anything. Hell, they removed FF content since the last game. Think it's safe to say Cloud is an outlier here
They should have gone with Terra instead of Cloud, I guess Square needs their golden boy everywhere...
What I want is for all of his B moves (except for maybe up B) to involve Arsene summoning and to either have long startup or be active for a long time, so that Joker can attack and move simultaneously while his persona is doing something.
Actually wondering that the Joker announcement was Reggie's idea to get more people to have confidence and preorder the DLC pack. Interested to know if a lot of people were spooked out of the pack by Pirahna Plant.
Their might be some mild entertainment out of it simply being a left-field choice, but I'm not really sure people would actually buy it if it was not a bonus or would have looked at it as an encouragement for future DLC choices. At the midnight launch people were already mocking it which I guess is better than hating it, there was also that play tester who leaked it who thought it was a stupid choice and that people would actually get pissed off.
Whatever the case, I'm excited for Joker and I'll bite on the pack and now Reggie can reel me in.

Knowing that Joker is the first DLC fighter, I felt secure in buying the dlc pass. Can't wait for this.
Sakurai personally requested Cloud. Because he knew Cloud was THE Final Fantasy character and the most popular and most well known. As well as the most requested character they got from the franchise.

Demi-Fiend would be an amazing character for Smash, but I don't think it makes sense to have two Atlus/SMT characters as DLC.
I'm just hoping they represent Megami Tensei as a whole through spirits. with Nintendo mentioned SMT multiple times in the PR, I'm expecting some sort of representation like Flynn, Nanashi, Demi Fiend, Alph, etc.

Joker is a more popular character and I totally understand why they went with him, I would have preferred Demi-Fiend or just Jack Frost, but I am thrilled for Joker nonetheless.
Flynn and Nanashi, while they starred in games on a Nintendo platform, are not as popular as Demi-Fiend. If you ask anyone who the most popular SMT protagonist is, I almost assure you Demi-Fiend is the answer. Plus if they still have to follow the "must have appeared on a Nintendo platform at some point", Demi-Fiend is eligible as he was in the SMTIV Apocalypse DLC. I do not think any other Atlus character will get in since Joker is, but I am okay with that. I just hope Joker has some SMT references.
The game will sell majority of it's copies outside Japan, so who cares?
Joker in terms of raw brand recognition made the most sense even if I preferred other SMT characters.

It's a shame that Ultimate missed the 8 year period when Yu was the face of the series. The Investigation Team know a thing or two about mysterious letters.
