If the cost is good, I might actually consider this. Would be nice to have an alternative dock that you could double for TV and tabletop.
Honestly though, that's something I never noticed myself. Mind you I know I played long periods of BotW docked and it wasn't like I noticed much of a different of it "overheating" myself, but I suppose it would be good to have that available to be on the safe side.

Really, though. No, the Nintendo dock doesn't overheat--at least not in my case.
It can. It really depends on a number of variables. They're all different though so I can only speak for myself.
Surely an advanced user knows exactly how to keep his cool, no matter the situation.

Damn, that's sleek. I'd mostly just use the pop out.
That and Kickstarter campaigns in general. They delivered the last product, but it was just a grip case and from the comment they definitely had issues with customer support.

I'm currently just using the TV mode and tabletop docks from Nintendo. I'm too scared of losing my saves.

Even if you're talking about the whole thing it's a lot smaller.
Won't it have the same issues other third-party docks had though, with Nintendo modifying the firmware to make it incompatible?

That's good to hear that they actually looked into this. I'm still gonna watch for a bit, but I at least have some faith in these folks if it's something they care about.

But no, apparently the standard dock only overheats if there's a network adapter plugged in. Without that, there haven't been any reports of the stock dock heating up.
While I'm terrified of this, the KS is amazingly slick and the NES/Famicom color variations are awesome.

Wonder when/if Nintendo'll do official licensing for these types of peripherals. Even Apple eventually launched MFi for the lightning port...
