Dude that sucks so much. I hope Hara rests well and that the industry and country continues to actually move forward on mental health. They still have a ways to go (hell we still do in the States) but Mina was a sign of hope.
I really hope they can do better in supporting their talent before they start to feel like ending their lives is their only option.

You have to remember that KPOP stars get a lot of training in a variety of fields and no doubt that putting a mask on is something that they are trained to do. Her looking relaxed and normal appears to have just been a mask meant to hide the inner turmoil. :/
Sorry haven't been following kpop much over the past year or so. What do you mean by saying Mina was a sign of hope?
Mina of Twice has publically been diagnosed with severe anxiety disorder and instead of the usual clown shoes behavior, the company allowed her to take an extended hiatus to focus on her mental health (posting multiple updates to say how it's her choice when she wants to return and keeping folks up to date on how she's doing) and the majority of the fanbase has been highly supportive of her.
They didn't demonize her condition or try to force her to deal with it alone, which is not common at all.
Yep, it was completely unexpected behavior for the industry, so maybe there's a chance for some real change soon.
Sadly it's actually not uncommon for people that have been struggling to seem happier and more "at ease" once they have made up their minds about suicide. It's a shame and anyone who's ever had similar feelings should reach out to their local support lines, friends, family or even members here on Era. I know the mental health community support each other and I'm sure most members of Kpop Era would be willing to listen if one of us needed it.
When I checked the kpop news in the morning I thought the page was stuck on an old date with the suicide news but once I realized it was another one.. this is too much.
On another note, the reason I got into kpop a few years ago was because of vr. I had my rift with no real content and then i went to youtube and other sites to see if there were any music videos in vr. For some reason, kpop heavily outnumbered any other music genre in vr and well, here I am. Back then though, it was all new and confusing. Like who is twice and Fiestar, gfriend, oh my girl, etc..
Recently I went to look again and there are some new additions by everyglow, g-idle, loona, izone, fromis9 etc.. Pretty cool. It's also nice to look at the old ones now and realize that those were major groups that I'm much more familiar with. If you guys have access to vr, it's worth trying out.

Ugh. I wanna say I'm shocked but unfortunately after Sulli's passing and knowing how close they were, this isn't completely shocking. It just massively sucks. Kara was one of the first groups I got into back in 2009 when I first discovered K-Pop. I still remember seeing their MV for "Wanna" on TV in South Korea when I was there. RIP Hara, I hope you're in a better place.
Hara already had a failed suicide attempt. I can't believe she still didn't get the necessary help she deserved. Instead, she had to write that stupid ass PR statement about 'doing better next time', act to behave like normal and had to get back to work immediately while also having to deal with loneliness and the passing of Sulli. Fuck this shit.
I was working almost all day and then I found out about 1hr ago; I'm so depress and can't concentrate at all at work right now T_T

I think I have made the decision to drop kpop stanning completely after this news. This one hit way too close for me. How many deaths are we gonna have to see and endure for there to be some type of major universal change.
How many people have to die before systematic changes in the Korean culture? At the very least I'd hope that such high visibility casualties will push the authorities towards stepping up much more heavily against cyberbullying, abuses, revenge porn and whatnot. The whole population would benefit from it.

Can't be said often enough. If you have issues, seek help. If you know anyone who might be needing help, don't hesitate to be there for them. A well-timed hug, an unburdening chat, a sign of support - little things like those can save lives. I also had issues like these in the past, up until a couple years ago I was in a pretty horrible place myself. I don't think I would have made it only on my own, and when I was feeling alone I was feeling increasingly bad. The worst thing you can do to a person in need is make them feel alone, helpless.
im following Kpop and Korean Entertainment since several years now, and i've seen so many disgusting things, that makes even the western industry look like paradise.

I can't say I follow it too closely, but my fiancé does, she's been in South Korea for a while as well and in many ways it's so ass backwards in terms of social themes it's crazy. There's a lot of bullying, abuses, suicide rate is really high, and yet the social construct looks down at the victims and people with problems. Even with Goo Hara, how many people were blaming her for the mere existence of nude photos? How many people blamed her for not dying on the first try, "proving" it was just a stunt for attention? And guess how many people will feel guilty out of those who sent her threats and insults? How many of those people will face legal consequences? The way some of those artists are treated make the hate some artists get around here look like child's play.
The country should absolutely use the sudden visibility of these issues due to the death of multiple well-known stars to try clamping down on this circle of hate. And while they're at it, at how entertainment businesses are abusing (in more ways than one) a lot of young artists to extract the most money from them that is humanly possible. Show business is a bad place in many countries, but in South Korea in particular it feels so damn rotten. Because every death like this is blood on a lot of people's hands: the authorities that allow this to continue, the businessmen that make or break deals that can make you a God or a rotten egg you throw away in the trash, but also society as a whole that looks down at mental problems and abuse victims. I sure hope these notable deaths at the very least will change the industry for the better. It won't help Sulli or Goo Hara but it could help many more.

Korea's entertainment industry is bad, but every enrertainment industry is bad. Korea is not particularly unique or excessively dirty compared to any other.
There are social issues that need addressing and they extend well beyond the people on tv.

I will always remember her. She really went through a lot.

If you read my post I talk about plenty of issues in the Korean society as a whole. And entertainment can get away with a lot of shit because society, as a whole, accepts tons of shitty behaviour. The demonization of mental health issues, the fact you're looked upon badly if you dare having a lot of relationships in your life (as a girl mainly). When their artists receive such vile attacks, you don't exactly see their productors stand in the line of fire for their employees. Entertainment and society go hand in hand because entertainment can only get away with what society allows.
