Can we be a little bit more understanding that this man is literally Bipolar? He's not well, guys. Not saying some of you aren't aware of that but we can't hold him to the same standard we used to. He's mentally not there anymore.

The folks in his life need to get a grip of him. He had nervous and mental breakdown last year. The fact that he is allowed to spew his shit, influence people with his delusional thoughts and create a platform for those who literally believe everything he says is not right.

We are but bystanders.

"We can make our own reality!"

This is just good old fashioned 'mega rich guy has long forgotten the restrictions of normal life'.

Man seriously unwell still but his money is what allows him to prop up his life as he bends people to his whims for cash.

I mean that’s fine but as Ebro mentioned it’s not just a matter of him anymore. It’s about how what he’s saying is being used by people to help give credence to the kinds of dangerous and deliberately fallacious stances of people who don’t have POC’s best interest in mind. Saying slavery is basically a state of mind is dismissive towards not just black people but to people who are literally still in slavery today. He’s throwing his hat into the ring to support a guy who has consistently worked against the interests of the black community in Trump and in the process is spewing the rhetoric of white supremists to but the blame solely on the shoulders of the black community. He’s preaching love and understanding on one hand while smacking you with the other by telling you it’s your fault for your disposition, something which is supporters and fans may take as gospel because the “genius” label is way too often thrown out in his direction. As much as I respect Van for what he did, I think he needed to go a step further and not try to “compliment sandwich” him by calling him a genius before basically telling him he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Fact is the dude isn’t book smart because he doesn’t read or actually try to critically think about the information he receives. Instead he apparently saw some videos with Candice and talked with her for a bit and now is taking everything she’s saying as gospel, which if he’s such a free thinker he should realize that’s actively contradictory to the label. We can be as sympathetic to whatever issues he’s going through, but dude is much more than just a danger to himself at this point.

God damnit. I was pretty big Kanye stan for a while, and I would defend a lot of the things he would do and say. This and everything else around this album is too fucking much. Done with this dude.

Yeah, after sleeping on this, I've decided. It really is fuck Kanye from now on. I don't want to listen to his music or the music of anyone he is associated with.

I have always thought boycotts are nonsense but on a personal level, I just cannot justify listening or buying that man's music, clothing or footwear on any level.

As I've said before, it's not the opinions themselves that are the problem. People can separate the man from the artist quite easily.

It's the fact that I still feel that kanye should know better and is letting his ego run his mouth. Not even mental illness is an good enough excuse.

Put that coon in the trash and leave him there.

Y’all taken the bait too easy.

He pipes up with this wild quotes and controversy every time his album about to drop.
And in doing so, he's using his platform to validate Fox News talking points. There's a fuckton of people who can say "fuck him" and drop his shit, but on a platform of millions, he's gonna find plenty who will just regurgitate this shit.

Do people realise they are getting angry about a man who is mentally unstable?

For the record, I think he is a complete wally. He's a pin up of everything revolting about modern culture. But he is not well. Stop listening to what he says. His statements are the incoherent ravings of someone that needs help.

He was that to start with. That's the best he's ever been.

The man is clearly a fool. He has no filter to what he says - no nuance, no sense of balance. An idea just pops into his head and he blurts it out, like a baby filling a nappy. He's the perfect physical manifestation of social media - the idea of simply speaking your brainz, rather than trying to qualify your thoughts or entertaining any sort of doubt. And amusingly, people mistake that foolishness for 'genius'.

But he's currently unhinged.

To put this up to just "mental instablity" is to do a disservice to people who are genuinely mentally ill and give him cover for his actions.

Kanye has crossed a line with many POC with this. He has gone from "crazy drunk uncle" to "person nobody in the family acknowledges still exists".

That's how hurtful his words are. As far as I'm concerned, it's worse than holocaust denial.

This.

Im fed up hearing the mentally ill/unstable thing. This is coming from someone who is mentally ill.

The guy is a complete asshole and an idiot.

I cant believe people have called him a genius at any point in his career. He has never been anything of a genius.

Dont use mental illness to make light of Kanye West action. People call him Yesus and his words reach millions. What he said is dangerous and cruel. Who would choose to live as a slave?

Ehh, he's really good at music. And what he did with music could be called genious.

It just also happens that he's always been kind of an asshole, and has grown more mentally ill as time went on. Particularly after his mom died. Which leads us here.

Erm...no he isn't, pretty sure he's never had any kind of diagnosis. At the very least any diagnosis that *may* exist isn't public knowledge.

His behaviour is erratic and unusual. If your friend posted a picture of the doctor that was implicated in the death of his mother on social media, you would be round there in a shot, talking to him and trying to help (the doc has served a cease and desist). His current statements are absurd, even by the standards of a man that specialises in the cretinous,

For the record, I think and always have thought that he is a total and utter penis. But I cannot fathom how people take this man's words seriously.

I think people have generally avoided trying to diagnose him from afar.

That comes out of compassion and understanding for those who live with manic depression or similar conditions.

Throwing around illnesses can generate stigma, particularly when it is about a public figure.

I think you're right though, I'd agree that this looks like a manic episode at some level. It is particularly alarming that he said recently that he believes just talking to people is a suitable replacement for therapy.

I think the people that are around him right now are taking advantage of him, whether they realise that something is seriously wrong with him or not is another question.

Well, the president is using his words to give himself credence. Kanye is not just some dude. He's someone with a lot of influence. I do not take his words seriously. But the effect of his words is something to be afraid of. Last time we were told not to take someone serious something strange happened.

Can we perhaps stop attributing shitty behaviour and views to mental disorders? I have bipolar disorder, and it's getting a bit out of hand.

I'm not saying he's mentally well, but most of the stuff he's spewing are personal convictions, not things influenced by a mood disorder.

I'm against assuming what mental health issues he might have, but he's been very upfront about having some. He hasn't publicly disclosed any diagnosis, but he's stated he is on prescription mental health medication in interviews and that he sees a psychiatrist in No More Parties in LA. In addition, he's rapped about Lexapro several times, though hasn't outright said if he's on it.

Yeah, I'm not qualified to diagnose bi-polar disorder, but I'm pretty sure symptoms of "fascist adjacency" aren't mentioned in the DSM IV.

Kanye is a self-important moron with a bunch of equally moronic fans who egg him on. Stop taking away Cheezy's agency and just accept he really is a garbage person with garbage opinions.

I don't think its bi polarism. It's just an extension of right wing thought some have. That black people and POC of are in predicaments or poor only of their own making.

Very succesful POC are known to have this attitude. Jim Brown, Bill Cosby, looking down on other black people. Kanye is kinda taking that belief to its extreme and insane conclusion.

I guess, at least what he is saying is so preposterous that he is not likely to have these insights taken seriously or influence anyone.

I think that's kind of shitty you think aknowlging someone not being all there takes away their agency and helps to continue the idea that mental issues shouldn't be a thing you take seriously.

Donald Trump and Ronal Regan aren't and weren't all there , but you can also aknowledge that they were shit people. You shouldn't assume the person wanting to aknowlege that person is mentally unstable is trying to excuse their actions, rather than trying to provide an explanation
